I’m on my own (with the dog Grin) for the next few days. Happy to bore you, the most excitement I’m going to get this Christmas is opening my work Secret Santa present. If you don’t count starting on oestrogen gel, that’s the other thing I’ve got lined up.
Please join me 🤗

Yesterday's Spicy potato soup

Tub of tesco tarka dahl stirred into pot of veggie stock from cube.
Add finely chopped onion, finely sliced large potato.
Simmer until onion and potato are soft.
Turn off heat.

Chop handful of baby spinach, chuck on top.

Leave as it is, or blend to preferred consistency.

BuddhaAtSea · 25/12/2021 07:27

Merry Christmas one and all!!!! Let me just go make a coffee, I’ll bring it back to bed with me:)

Merry Christmas. My children are with their dad. I am trying to avoid Facebook, I am happy for everyone having lovely Christmases with their kids but it makes my heart twist.

I had to drop something off for my son yesterday (Christmas Eve) and their dad wouldnt let me say hello to them.

However, I have a stack of books and a dog to walk!

Tomanyhandbags · 25/12/2021 07:43

Just had my breakfast and am preparing for the day just did a lf test cos woken up with a cough and headache but as not been out anywhere for a week was negative as expected.

HomeAloneXmas · 25/12/2021 07:48

Merry Xmas all you solo flyers. Breakfast here = coffee with baileys in it, I'm starting as I mean to go on. Wink

BuddhaAtSea · 25/12/2021 08:10

@DoingWhatSheWants thanks for the recipe, sounds right up my street. It’d be wonderful to have a bowl waiting for me with some fresh bread when I get back from a cold and wet walk.

@Tomanyhandbags, hope I’m not too cheeky, but do you really have too many handbags? 😁

@forcedfun, I have an ex like that. DD is with him this Christmas, but mine is old enough to barge past her dad. What a nasty piece of work! Don’t let him control the mood of today!
@HomeAloneXmas you go girl!!!😂😂😂 I’m not far behind you!

Good morning and thank you for starting this thread!

Me and the cat here, though cat has disappeared for now as she’s had her breakfast. I’m about to go and get dressed and head out for a walk to catch the sun coming up (or trying to), and when I get in there’s presents to open.

Tomanyhandbags · 25/12/2021 08:21

Yes definitely have to many handbags at least 50 all colours, sizes and styles but all cheap have got a few pairs of shoes also.

Appalonia · 25/12/2021 08:23

Merry Xmas Sole Sisters! Just came over from the thread where everyone is complaining about how stressed everyone is and how useless their husbands are. This thread is lovely and peaceful by comparison. No wonder they say single women are happier...

Got ham and cheese croissant for breakfast and I'm going to do a roast chicken dinner later. Just for myself! Xmas Smile

Graphista · 25/12/2021 08:27

Merry Christmas everyone!

Thanks for the thread op

This is my 3rd year alone mainly due to mental health issues.

I'm kinda used to it now and quite like suiting myself with eating/drinking/watching/listening to stuff

I also do #JoinIn on twitter which is Sarah Millicans initiative for people alone/lonely at Xmas (you don't have to be alone to be lonely and just cos you're alone doesn't mean you are either!) it's really upbeat and fun

I cocked up my Tesco for Xmas and couldn't get a slot this week and forgot loads! But I've plenty in too!

At the moment I'm thinking I'll have fried egg butties for breakfast

I'm veggie so Xmas dinner is gonna be nut roast and veggie friendly trimmings I need to work out timings later as if I don't I end up in a mess! Also a massive pud due to a Tesco sub glitch! (I'm sure I'll manage)

@Tomanyhandbags I remember you from another thread I forget which, I've prob already said so if you've mentioned but I am sorry for the loss of your dh.

What's everyone watching? I went through radio times and I've noted what I think I wanna watch but will decide at the time

@Yummypumpkin have you not seen anything you fancy watching? What streaming services have you got? Maybe we can find something for you what kinda thing do you like?

@Joy2TheWorld I had Covid bad but mild (as in bad but not bad enough for hospital) in sep it sucks! For me soup, lozenges, plenty of water, paracetamol and Covinia were my life savers! But it was pretty miserable hope you're not as bad as me I could barely even mn then I was sooo ill!

I mean...there are no rules but the ones we make, right?

Absolutely!

I'm not sure whether to just go with lounge wear (leggings and top) or go a bit dressier if It may make me feel better...but then for eating and drinking I think leisure wear is the way to go

I have green sparkly nails! Which are making me happy.

I'm agoraphobic among other things and have JUST (start of sep) started venturing out occasionally! This has led to me buying loads of new make up as I hadn't worn any at home but my skin is awful (as I also have dermotillomania) so feel the need to cover up for the sake of others!

@LeQuern late for this year but next year I'd say do a cheats Xmas dinner! Ready made everything! Less effort for you and less food for them? Elderly people do tend to lose their appetites. A wee bit of everything is all you need. I used to work in elderly care and we'd still do all the elements of Xmas dinner but only serve them a little of each thing as that's all they wanted, a taste.

What time is not too early to be playing musical movies and singing along do we reckon?

@prettycolours nothing wrong with looking forward to it there are good and bad parts to all kinds of christmases.

My childhood Christmases were with all my family but due to addiction in the family were not happy ones! A calm, peaceful autonomic Christmas is fine for me.

I'm missing dd (she's at her dads this year other end of country) but not in a totally heartbroken way

@BuddhaAtSea I turned into my mother about 10/15 years ago, these days I look more like my gran! Blush

The duvet thread on twitter is #DuvetKnowItsChristmas

BuddhaAtSea · 25/12/2021 08:31

@Piggypiggyoinkoink morning, Merry Christmas!!Where do you people live, you’ve got SUN?!!! Here it’s practically dark still!!

@Tomanyhandbags I have ONE leather shopper, that is it. Oh, and an envelope type one for occasions. But, I’m either walking the dog, or going to the gym, or swimming in the sea, I use the leather shopper for work and going into town to get stuff. Coffee with friends tends to be at the end of a walk or a run. I really like the Coach hobo ones though. Maybe for my birthday;)

Tomanyhandbags · 25/12/2021 08:34

Grahpista it was probably the one dreading being on my own at Christmas cos not joined in a lot of conversations but the Diazepam has given me a completely different acceptance, still wish it hadn't happened though and yes covid is a b***d that's how I lost my husband.

Tomanyhandbags · 25/12/2021 08:36

Don't actually carry a handbag very often stopped when my husband needed a wheelchair but still like the option.

Piggypiggyoinkoink · 25/12/2021 08:37

Sun is an optimistic term - according to the weather app on my phone (accurate approx 5% of the time), sun will rise at 0849. Reality is the world will go from dark to slightly less dark, but maybe more damp!

awesomekilick · 25/12/2021 08:43

Good morning you calm, kindly people. Just found you. I'm alone with two cats for the fourth year and I think I'm finally getting the hang of it. Adult DC and ex are together and although it's mainly all good (other than DS but that's a long story) I do feel very "outsider-y" and relegated to "family-but not-us" status. Still, two mince pies for breakfast and the distinct probability of a nap later... it's not too bad chez Killick.

R0tational · 25/12/2021 08:45

Lovely thread Flowers I was expecting (& had planned) to be alone but covid meant I am not. I just want the day to pass. Missing the last parkrun before its off for the forseable.

SortingItOut · 25/12/2021 08:48

I'm with my DS (25) today but he will spend most of the day in his bedroom gaming with friends.
DD (18) is at her Dads but will return later today.

DS and I are having Indian takeaway for dinner. I'm done with cooking roast on xmas day after doing it for 20+ years while my ex- husband slept all day.

This is my 2nd Christmas like this and I love it, I split from my ex 3.5yrs ago and for the first 2 xmases we got on so did xmas dinner as a family but then he went psycho on me and we no longer speak so the alternative xmas is my way now.

I'm with my large family tomorrow which will be fun.

I'm planning to cook a roast on 28th but that's meat permitting as the chicken is still running around my field....

I do have a partner but we don't live together, he has his young son today and will spend the day with his mum as she is on her own.
We will hopefully see each other onBoxing Day.

Hope you all have a fantastic day, I'm off to walk the dogs (2 hours later than usual, not that they seem to mind)

MuthaFunka61 · 25/12/2021 08:50

Morning, I'm so glad you're all here as I need some company but didn't want to start my own thread.

I was diagnosed with stomach cancer on 10th December and saw the consultant on Tuesday who wants more tests done. I'd been feeling pretty OK for most of the time as I wanted to assess the situation after the consultation but being told I've ' suspicious spots' in other areas of my digestive system has made it more difficult to keep a balanced mind.

Today I'm on my own, which is usual and not a huge deal, but I've just had a "Merry Christmas" text from my elder son as he heads over to his (demanding MILs) PIL which has upset me.
I've not told my AC yet as;
a/ I've not got a full picture yet and don't want to pass on this state of shock and limbo
b/ due to a I decided to tell them after Christmas.
I know my situation is partly my creation but it feels pretty rubbish right now.

I've got my wonderfully bright and funny dog with me for company and cooked and started eating my party food as soon as it was delivered a couple of days ago,I've saved the smoked salmon and truffle Hummus for today though plus I've still mince pies and shortbread left #winning Grin

FlowersBrewCake for us to share

Graphista · 25/12/2021 08:51

I think it might have been that thread @Tomanyhandbags hope my post/s were of use?

Covid took someone from me too this time last year Ish Covid sucks!

I have a lot of bags too (esp for someone who rarely goes out! Grin) but several are from before this hour of being housebound.

all fairly cheap (£30 for a bag is expensive to me) various colours only 2 black and one tan I like proper colours and then I match to my outfit.

Off to make me egg sarnies! Then I'm sticking greatest family Christmas hits - love me some cheesy pop to sing along to!

Fiftysix · 25/12/2021 08:52

Happy christmas morning, hope i can join you and so glad to have found nice people. I too feel very outside to my family. Solo short walk today and dying my hair planned .always makes me feel a little human!

notmrscookie · 25/12/2021 08:52

So glad I found you.
Christmas is hard my parents died when I was 17 .Divorced. 2 sons who will live their bedroom later.

Trying to make the most of it. Sitting in bed with cuppa , croissant and jam and phone .might read my xmas book .
High light will be call the midwife and wine.

Hope you all have a day that makes you happy.

Tomanyhandbags · 25/12/2021 08:56

Graphista I think you may be my bag sister and yes your posts did help thanks. Enjoy your egg sarnies and your singalong.

Graphista · 25/12/2021 09:07

@Tomanyhandbags aww bless you thank you. Glad my posts helped.

I like if I can find a bag that's a bit "unusual" too so normally (when not cooped up my stupid malformed brain!) I'll hunt charity and vintage shops etc I've a Betty boop bag (that's one of my black ones! So not so boring) but I mostly tend to 50's 60's and 70's styles with fringing, tassles, embroidery etc

BuddhaAtSea · 25/12/2021 09:14

I need to jump in the shower and go walk the dog. I’ll be back 😂
