Do you do laundry on Christmas day?

Sorry a bit of a dull thread!

Just wondering if other people stick a wash on? I always seems to have loads of laundry...if I have a day where I don't do any, I find it really piles up and I end up with a backlog. On the other hand, it feels totally shit to do washing on Christmas day! What do you do?

Yes I probably will because it takes seconds and I don't want dirty washing hanging around.

NMC2022 · 23/12/2021 15:01

@NewBeta

There was a thread last year I think it was about having bad luck if you do washing on Christmas Day. Or maybe it was Boxing Day. 🤔 well anyway iicr it is a VERY BAD THING. Apparently 😂
NYD. Wash on New Year's Day, wash a member of your family away

@bettytaghetti

Not unless my fortunately exSIL is staying. She had been in a bedroom with its own bathroom and her young daughter said she felt unwell. Rather than just take her into said bathroom to throw up, she left DN in room and then tried to get DB's attention to come and deal with her. Unfortunately we were playing some rather loud after dinner games (she never would join in) and in the time it took for him to hear, DN had thrown up all over the bed. So having been cooking & clearing up all day and finally having the chance to sit down and join in the fun, I was having to change and wash a puke covered bed. She even just stood there whilst I put the clean bedding on. 😤
and you let her?

Usually yes. If I skip a day it'll be two loads the next day!

MrsTophamHat · 23/12/2021 15:07

Probably, as I have under fives. The holidays are the only time I manage to maintain an empty washing basket.

randomsabreuse · 23/12/2021 15:07

Hoping not to but have a recently potty trained toddler plus a 6 year old so the chances of avoiding dropped food or other accidents best dealt with immediately are low...

Would like not to have any washing drying in my kitchen if possible but that's a pipe dream!

Bigbonesmeatandgravy · 23/12/2021 15:09

This is such a depressing thread

@Foxglovesandlilacs86

And if this is turning into a towel thread, then I wash towels after every use! With this many people in the house I couldn’t stand damp towels hanging round everywhere! And I just prefer to use a clean towel every time. Each to their own though!
So rather than have damp towels lying around you want to have wet ones?

If you can dry the wet ones after washing them, then why can't you dry the damp ones?

That's New Years Day - you wash away someones life (so the Superstition goes )

NotImpossible · 23/12/2021 15:19

@Daisydoesnt

I do a load once or twice a week so probably not but if it was a sunny/blowy day I might (not had many good washing days recently!)

But the bed linen is one load, and bath & hand towels/ tea towels/ dishcloths/ bath mats make up another (probably). So what about clothes?

One load would be 4/5 towels (so 2 weeks worth). Bedding waits for a nice day but I often mix bits in with clothing. Pjs/undies/clothes - probably one load a week. As I mentioned, I'm not certain as I don't count but I don't think I usually do more than 2 loads a week. Maybe I have a bigger than normal machine - I'll have a look later (and start counting loads in case I'm miles out!) Grin
NotImpossible · 23/12/2021 15:21

Just a note - I only wash bedding on a nice day - I change it weekly!

Wash on New Year's Day, wash a member of your family away

Is it random, or can you choose which member to wash away?

Sadly I think it's random or I would be loading the washing up with a voodoo doll in it
shakinsti · 23/12/2021 15:28

No I don't think I've ever done washing on Christmas Day. I make sure I've done as much as I can beforehand.

rrhuth · 23/12/2021 15:28

@NMC2022

Imagine if you changed your mind after setting it going Grin

Pipesofpeas · 23/12/2021 15:39

There’s washing in there, but I’ve leaving it until after Boxing Day

DidgeDoolittle · 23/12/2021 15:40

@Ducksurprise

Always, have to wash all the new clothes!
Am I a dirty slut bigger for never washing new clothes? Just me?
Twizbe · 23/12/2021 16:00

Noooooo

My grandma was very superstitious and said it was bad luck to do laundry on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and Day, good Friday and Easter Sunday.

No one in my family will wash clothes on those days

friedeggandsauce · 23/12/2021 16:05

@MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry do you lick your towel? No wonder you need to wash it more than most. Try hanging it on a towel rail or radiator instead 🤔

Itstheprinciple · 23/12/2021 16:06

Last load has been done today until at least Boxing day. The towels have been dried in the tumble dryer and the stuff that is on the airer from yesterday will be dry and so the airer can go away. The only space for the airer is the kitchen and I really don't want it hanging around over Christmas.

user1471538283 · 23/12/2021 16:15

Oh God no! I do laundry every other day

StephieSlade · 23/12/2021 16:15

I'm exactly the same - decked it in a muddy gateway at the stables today too 🙈🙈!

Ducksurprise · 23/12/2021 16:17

Didge I'm the least houseproud bugger around but always wash new clothes, drives dh crazy as I'm so lackadaisical with everything else (ie towels)

rrhuth I was wondering the same.

GoodnightGrandma · 23/12/2021 16:18

Yes I do, or it’s double next day !
