I'm desperately trying to stay awake but I keep nodding off and falling off my chair!
Ds has fallen asleep and is peaceful after being in terrible pain prior to coming to a&e.
He has suspected appendicitis Sad

Are you on the wards now? He is in the right place and will be fine. It's ok to nod off xx

PragmaticWench · 18/12/2021 05:04

Those chairs are not comfy! Is he likely to need surgery?

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 18/12/2021 05:04

Oh gosh Op.

He is in the right place, he's likely to get it done and sorted asap. They are priority ops along with broken hips.. he will be fine xxxx

Are you ok?

Juniper68 · 18/12/2021 05:06

Oh no hope he's operated on soon.

crosbystillsandmash · 18/12/2021 05:07

We're still being assessed but he has a cannula in and is nil by mouth.
I'm so exhausted, I'm a teacher and finished today absolutely shattered and was in bed for 10pm!
Poor ds came in just after in absolute agony, it's so out of the blue, we'd been watching tv, eating etc just an hour or so before!
Just feeling a little bit scared and very alone at the moment!

Not the start to your holidays that you were expecting🙁 Hope you get some answers soon.

housemdwaswrong · 18/12/2021 05:11

I've finished today too, so get the exhaustion factor. Appendicitis is a bread and butter op in youngster's, and he'll have priority, he will be fine. You'll need to make sure you have gin or similar in, and plenty of caffeine, but he'll be absolutely fine and with a badge of honour scar too. X

FavouriteMug · 18/12/2021 05:11

I know it's hard, but try not to be scared. He's in very good hands now.

Do you have partner/DH at home for support?

leafygarden42 · 18/12/2021 05:11

My son got taken by ambulance once for something similar. Really intense pain in the middle of the night and the 111 people sent an ambulance.

Turned out to be wind (!!) - not kidding. Fingers crossed. Have they given him strong painkillers? As I'm wondering how he's asleep now.

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 18/12/2021 05:11

Ah no but at least you are in the right place. This happened to my dh years ago and i still remember my fear (normally v logical calm person) look after yourself after this is all over. We joke about how it was harder on me than him!

crosbystillsandmash · 18/12/2021 05:12

Thanks everyone!
He's my youngest, so my baby (despite being 6ft!)
It's too early to text anyone yet, although my mum & friends are early risers thankfully.

Stick on Netflix if you have it on your phone and watch a comforting movie.

Please don't be scared. He will ok, they have caught it at the right time.

Can you ask a nurse for a pillow or leg rest? Xx

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 18/12/2021 05:13

Are you making yourself stay awake?

I don't want to bother anyone, they're very busy. I'm a bit cold as I'm only wearing jogging bottoms and the scruffy top that I sleep in!

Does anyone know how long the recovery would be post op?

crosbystillsandmash · 18/12/2021 05:15

@Letsallscreamatthesistene

Are you making yourself stay awake?
Yes! I'm on a small plastic chair at the moment, every time I nod off I nearly fall off. Ds is comfy though, that's the main thing!

Stopsnowing · 18/12/2021 05:15

Let yourself nod off if you can.

dalrympy · 18/12/2021 05:17

Morning. I'm up and also at the hospital with teen DD. We've been here all week as she had neurosurgery.

Have you been seen yet?

crosbystillsandmash · 18/12/2021 05:20

He's had bloods taken and been examined. We're waiting for their outcome/decision and a visit from another dr.

Sorry to hear you're in the same boat, how is your dd doing?

OP posts:
Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 18/12/2021 05:23

They won't mind, I badly broke My leg in June and we were in a booth in A&E, they made Dp more comfy then me. When they do his stats check just casually ask for a pillow and blanket. Xx

1day/24hrs post op as long as he has slept and eaten xx

Clarke45 · 18/12/2021 05:29

Please ask them for a blanket.... they won't mind! This was me a few years ago- loads of waiting around overnight until they decided it was appendicitis and then it all moved very quickly. He was out the same day as the operation- but the waiting around on those plastic chairs was awful. Try and get some rest xx

dalrympy · 18/12/2021 05:30

Hi Crosby. She's a bit brighter now as we are a few days post op but it's been an emotional roller coaster.

I thought she wouldn't want me here but she's reverted to not letting me out of her sight and the teenager scorn has been replaced with neediness. Which on some levels I am actually enjoying! We've spent more quality time together in the last week than in the last year.

The NHS is amazing but a bit random. Nothing happens and then suddenly EVERYTHING happens. You don't tend to get told much about what's going to happen when - it just suddenly happens.

we are quite far from home in a specialist hospital in London too so no chance of popping back.

dalrympy · 18/12/2021 05:31

H and I'm cold too! I'm really missing my duvet!

Gatekeeper · 18/12/2021 05:41

It feels more scary when it happens during the night when its dark and no one else is around. Another couple of hours and it will be getting light and you can phone your mum for support.
Hope your son gets an op soon if it is appendix and you manage a bit of kip

Lulu1919 · 18/12/2021 05:47

Oh that end of term exhaustion plus this....I feel for you
I hope you both get sorted soon
Is there a Costa in the hospital ....could you treat yourself to something large and sugary

PAFMO · 18/12/2021 05:50

Oh no, hope It's not appendicitis and it's sorted as soon as.
Brew here's a coffee.
@dalrympy, hope you're all home quickly too.
