Apologies if this has been done/ posted about before. I received this letter through the post today- from the Jehovah’s witnesses. With covid I’m assuming it’s how there communicating with people. I was really surprised that it was hand written, must take hours too write those out, price of stamps - I dread too think. Has anybody else received one? No disrespect, I’m very happy with my own faith, it’s gone in the bin.

I received two, from the same person, on the same day.

I too was aghast at the postage costs they must be incurring

Akire · 03/12/2021 17:49

I think they used to have to do so many hours towards “sharing the good news” as part of their faith. So would explain hand written over massed produced maybe? So they still putting in the hours/effort and can feel good about that

TheCanyon · 03/12/2021 17:50

Yeah we get them about twice a year. Such a waste of a stamp as it goes straight in the bin.

That's a bit keen of them Grin

I got one last month, and it went straight in the vertical filing cabinet.

BlowDryRat · 03/12/2021 17:51

Yes, I got one yesterday. I thought it was a neighbour writing a moan letter when I saw it and was a bit disappointed that it wasn't!

Greatdomestic · 03/12/2021 17:53

Yes, I got one, looked like an old biddy had written it.

There seemed to have been a drop in my area.

Moonflower12345 · 03/12/2021 17:53

I had one yesterday. Bit annoyed that they've got my address but rather that than they come round I guess.

I've never forgiven them after they came to my door a week after my beloved grandmother died and told me that "only bad people die" Hmm.

I believe that part of the set up is that they spread the word as much as possible so maybe they are doing this instead of door knocking?

DentalWorries · 03/12/2021 17:54

Yes I got one yesterday as well! Last week it was a book which I was quite confused about until I opened it and saw it had the stamp of the local church inside

viques · 03/12/2021 17:55

I expect the JWs will be in touch soon OP, you have just saved them a fortune in postage!!!!!

Thegreencup · 03/12/2021 17:56

Ours post leaflets and flyers.

Missingthesea · 03/12/2021 17:56

I've had a couple since Covid started - I think they're doing this instead of knocking on doors, to avoid infection.

21dolly · 03/12/2021 17:57

Because of Covid they're not able to go door to door or even do public ministry outside of tube stations/bus stations anymore so this is how it's being done. They'll also do phone calls to people who'd they usually revisit and send over links to new Watchtowers/Awakes.

All letters are handwritten because they're written by someone who's territory you're in. It definitely takes a lot of time writing letters but if at least one person responds/goes on the JW website then it's worth it

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 03/12/2021 17:59

Anyone else check to see if it's from Janet and Roy Grin

Viviennemary · 03/12/2021 18:02

We got one a few months ago. I felt a bit sorry for the person wasting their time. But binned it all the same.

We got two in the summer, I was excited at a handwritten letter until I realised what it was and it went in the bin. I never found out why we got one and our neighbours didn't - was the writer someone known to us, but who we don't know is a JW?

SpeckyWithTheGoodHair · 03/12/2021 18:08

@SpittinKitten I just thought I was in especial need of salvation and they thought they'd double up just in case

canadagoose1 · 03/12/2021 18:11

I got one a while back but it was a photocopy. I wonder if the Lord might take a dim view of such laxity.

BleuJay · 03/12/2021 18:12

Twice in the space of six months from two different people.

The first one I was able to find him on Facebook and tell him never to write to our address again. He was fine and agreed not to.

The second one wasn’t on Facebook so I posted on NextDoor and a friend of the person said he would pass my displeasure on.

I had previously contacted the local JW and told them they were not to knock on our door again after we had first moved in and had a knock on the door from them.

I was polite and pointed to a sign that said no cold/religious callers and the woman said that it didn’t apply to them so then I was less than polite and phoned the JW and complained about her and they agreed to remove our address from their house calls.

We have not had anyone call round since I did this but the two letters pissed me off.

BleuJay · 03/12/2021 18:15

This is one of the letters -

Mario was fine about not contacting us again!

AdaColeman · 03/12/2021 18:20

Yes, I received one a while ago. These days it's rare for me to get a handwritten letter with handwriting I don't recognise. My immediate thought was that it was to inform me of the death of a friend or relative, so I opened it with great trepidation.
I felt it was very intrusive, and the writer had the temerity to make some incorrect assumptions about my personal life. I found the whole thing very distasteful.

We got one last week but it was typewritten. Addressed obviously to our address but no name.

It upset my DH for a minute until I told him our name was not on it.

Into the bin it went.

We are in Canada. Yes, it sounds like a new campaign by mail in response to covid.

21dolly · 03/12/2021 18:28

Bloody hell, reading some of these responses you'd think the letters were put through people's doors threatening to kill them or something. It's all done with good intentions and can simply be put in the bin if you're not interested!

nancybotwinbloom · 03/12/2021 18:29

Yes!

I got one about two months ago
