What temperature is your thermostat set at?

Our heating comes on at about 6.30 am, and is set to 19 degrees. During the day, it doesn't come on, except if the temperature falls below 13 (Arctic). In the depths of winter when we're at home all day, obviously we'll turn it on.

In the evenings, it's also set to 19, but sometimes this doesn't really seem warm enough, so I up to about 21, which DH reckons is too hot.

Just wondering what everyone else does?

Ours is set to 18, I do turn it down in the evening when we light the fire though. Not on at all overnight.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 01/12/2021 20:41

18 usually, occasionally up to nearly 20. I. Didn't grow up with central heating and I don't like it on much. During the day it's either off or set to 14/16.

Lemonjiffy · 01/12/2021 20:42

I would find 21 too hot I reckon.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 01/12/2021 20:42

Oh and off at night, obviously.

bungabungaboo · 01/12/2021 20:43

Off at night

18'during early morning and evening

16 during the day

FenceSplinters · 01/12/2021 20:45

23 🤭

mamalovebird · 01/12/2021 20:46

Ours is set at 20°C. On a timer to come on 6.30-8.30am then 5.30-10.30pm

wertheppl · 01/12/2021 20:46

It's set to 20 and it clicks off when it gets to 20.5. We have it on from 6.30am to 10pm. It's also set to come on any time if it goes below 17.nap sometimes comes on during the night. Reason being some winter morning ms it was 15 when I got up and wld take hours and hours of heating on to get warm.

Currently my hands are icy cold. I've got thick fleece lined leggings on a fleece lined jumper. Heating isn't on as it's saying it's 20, but really it doesn't feel it! Sometimes I turn it off as gets too hot but not tonight!

These threads are so pointless, there are no rules about what temp it should be set at. Also it completely depends on where the thermostat is in your house. I can set mine to 18 in one location and it will make the house overall lovely and warm and in another it needs to be at 22 before the whole house has warmed up. If you're cold turn it up 🤷‍♀️

akaisnsouaj · 01/12/2021 20:48

I feel like some people on Mumsnet feel they are in some sort of competitive who can have their house the most cold competition - literally pointless 😂

JetRocket · 01/12/2021 20:49

Mines on 20 all night and 18 through the day but I have two under two in my house. I’d have it cooler if not for the DC

VitaminA · 01/12/2021 20:50

18 degrees except from 6 - 7 am and 6 - 10 pm, when it's set at 19.5.
If we switch the heating off during the day the house gets very cold very quickly and then takes ages to warm up again, so we keep it at a constant temperature.

GreenWhiteViolet · 01/12/2021 20:51

Exactly the same as yours! Comes on for a little while early in the morning, set to 19. Off all day because I'm usually the only one home and I don't mind the cold - it's been 14/15 during the day this week. On again for four hours in the evening.

I'm not being competitive, I'm just interested to see what others do. And I'm fully aware that you need to put your thermostat in the right place.

If you're not interested in something so "literally pointless" then go and read a different thread

Lemonjiffy · 01/12/2021 20:53

I like being a bit cold, cold heart etc…

pizzaobsessed · 01/12/2021 20:57

15 degrees, but then I live with the founding member of the heating Police...

ComtesseDeSpair · 01/12/2021 21:00

Don’t use the thermostat, heating goes on when we’re cold and off when we’re not. Sometimes we can happily tolerate 15 or 16; other days that’s just too chilly and we clock it up to 22 or 23. Which seems like the most sensible way, rather than having some kind of stock temperature in your head above and below which the heating must be off or on.

AledsiPad · 01/12/2021 21:10

Timer here for 2 hours morning and 4 in the evening. Thermostat is set at 20 because it’s positioning is awful and if it’s any lower some of the bedrooms are freezing - one bedroom is over the garage and the other has the tiniest radiator for the biggest room. Awful design! (Rented so we can’t change this).

Sexnotgender · 01/12/2021 21:12

We have a hive and our rooms are set individually. Our living room is set to 19 in the evening.

During the day the house generally sits at around 13/14/15 and I occasionally boost a room to 17.

whenwillthemadnessend · 01/12/2021 21:14

19

StressyWoman · 01/12/2021 21:14

I have it on 23 when we’re in and 17/18 when we’re in bed or go out. We all feel the cold though, I’m anaemic and it takes me ages to warm up.

Titsywoo · 01/12/2021 21:15

18 during the day and 14 at night. Every now and then I crank it up to 19 on a very cold day. Our house is very well insulated and stays warm.

kowari · 01/12/2021 21:15

Ours is set to 17 for an hour in the morning then from 3 to 8pm in the evening.

whenwillthemadnessend · 01/12/2021 21:15

I hate a hot room at night and I get a blanket if I need one sitting bout.

So 19 is fine in morn and evening and it generally drops to about 15 daytime
