What temperature is your thermostat set at?

Our heating comes on at about 6.30 am, and is set to 19 degrees. During the day, it doesn't come on, except if the temperature falls below 13 (Arctic). In the depths of winter when we're at home all day, obviously we'll turn it on.

In the evenings, it's also set to 19, but sometimes this doesn't really seem warm enough, so I up to about 21, which DH reckons is too hot.

Just wondering what everyone else does?

Thermostat on 15/16c at night and 17/19 during the day. We turn it up in the morning when we come downstairs in the morning and turn it back down as we go up to bed.

ComeAllYeFaithful · 01/12/2021 21:53

22.5. Cold house.

MintyGreenDream · 01/12/2021 21:55

22 when I get up then switch it off when go to work.Have log burner on in the evening which I'd guess gets the room up to around 26

danorak · 01/12/2021 21:57

Fucking hell there are some misers out there Grin

Pascha · 01/12/2021 22:00

19 during the day and 15 overnight. The heating isn't timed otherwise, just comes on to maintain these temps as and when necessary.

ItsSunnyOutside · 01/12/2021 22:02

In winter, the heating automatically comes on at 6am for an hour and again in the evening , so its nice and warm when dc has a bath and goes to bed. Usually around 19/20 degrees at night. April to mid Oct we don't need heating on, our house is generally warm. My dh feels the cold more then me so if he's working from home during the day, he pops it on for abit.

1dayatatime · 01/12/2021 22:04

19c which is only because it's a compromise between 20c and 18c, but it does mean that both of us can moan it's too cold or too hot!

IsThePopeCatholic · 01/12/2021 22:07

21 in the afternoon/evening. Off at night.

Or possibly people in fuel poverty?

I am saving oil, DH was at work up until 2 weeks ago even though he has terminal cancer, then he had a massive stroke. He is now in hospital, won't ever return to work and we will need to get by on PIP and his Statutory Sick Pay for a while as I will have to stop fostering too. I need every bit of oil I can keep in reserve to make sure his return home is comfortable.

19 but I'm a cold tattie!
Harpydragon · 01/12/2021 22:12

@mamalovebird

Ours is set at 20°C. On a timer to come on 6.30-8.30am then 5.30-10.30pm
Us too. If it drops below 16 in the house it will also come on then too.
MrsSkylerWhite · 01/12/2021 22:15

16 in the day, 18 in the evening. Goes off at 10.30 pm. I feel the cold, husband gets really hot so they’re compromises we can both live with.

We also light the bio ethanol fire when we’re in the sitting room in the evening which takes it up another degree or two,

freeandfierce · 01/12/2021 22:17

15.5 for me, have my fan on at night to keep me cool. One benefit of menopause, saving on my heating bills!

RoseMartha · 01/12/2021 22:17

20
Set to come on morning and afternoon for a total of 5 hours. I find unless really cold it will only come on once a day. If I am particularly cold when it didnt click on I will turn it up a degree or two for a bit then turn back to 20.

BunnyBonking · 01/12/2021 22:17

That’s very high, actually uncomfortably warm. Are you in the U.K.? I don’t think my thermostat even goes up that high!
MrsSkylerWhite · 01/12/2021 22:20

27?! You’re bill must be horrendous.

TuftyMarmoset · 01/12/2021 22:21

Or is that the temperature your air con is set to kick in @BunnyBonking?

SummerSazz · 01/12/2021 22:23

20 but my thermostat is by the glass front door. I have to turn it down as the weather gets colder. It feels counter intuitive!!

PeskyYeti · 01/12/2021 22:24

I have a tado, so it knows if house is empty and sets temp to 15. If someone is home and it's waking hours, it's set to 18. I would prefer 19 or 20 but husband polices it and turns it back to 18

DrCoconut · 01/12/2021 22:24

@TuftyMarmoset no. The boiler has a timer though. The radiators have adjustable valves but I haven't found they make much difference. The house is a doer upper and improvements to the heating system are on the list.

Allaboutyou222 · 01/12/2021 22:25

Yep. So many people come into a thread to complain about it. Why?

Almost as bad as the posters who respond with ‘you sound jealous’’ or deranged or bitter etc etc.

thesockfromtheroof · 01/12/2021 22:27

18 in the day, 12 at night (in winter).

If I move the thermostat to DS's room I set it to 17 so if his room temp drops to that or below, the heating will kick in

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 01/12/2021 22:28

During the day its set to come on at 19 and overnight 15. If were cold we turn it up. Personally my prefered temp would be 21 but DP finds that too hot and prefers 18 which i find to cold so we compromise at 19.
