What temperature is your thermostat set at?

Our heating comes on at about 6.30 am, and is set to 19 degrees. During the day, it doesn't come on, except if the temperature falls below 13 (Arctic). In the depths of winter when we're at home all day, obviously we'll turn it on.

In the evenings, it's also set to 19, but sometimes this doesn't really seem warm enough, so I up to about 21, which DH reckons is too hot.

Just wondering what everyone else does?

22 Smile

flossletsfloss · 01/12/2021 21:17

22 but lower at night.

LittleBirdy1 · 01/12/2021 21:17

Set at 22, live in a new build and it hardly ever comes on.

Sirzy · 01/12/2021 21:17

I only put the heating on when needed and have it set to 18 unless it’s really cold then it may go up to 20

HarrisMcCoo · 01/12/2021 21:17

24C

Scarby9 · 01/12/2021 21:19

17.5
If it's too cold I put it up to 18.5.
I also have open chimneys and floorboards so plenty of through air.
My parents have theirs set at 25 with all doors and windows shut. I really, really struggle there.

BackBackBack · 01/12/2021 21:19

15 in the room when I'm working during the day. 18 in the living room in the evening. Rooms not in use are on frost protection settings.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 01/12/2021 21:21

We put it in 20 until we get too warm then it goes off , we haven’t had it on the past 2 days , it’s been rather mild in London. We generally find that 20 for an hour or two max is sufficient to warm the house for the evening

HarrisMcCoo · 01/12/2021 21:22

@StressyWoman

I have it on 23 when we’re in and 17/18 when we’re in bed or go out. We all feel the cold though, I’m anaemic and it takes me ages to warm up.
Same here. My thyroid is f*cked so constantly feel the cold🥶
bloodywhitecat · 01/12/2021 21:22

18° while it is just me and the kids. once DH gets home we will turn it up to whatever he feels is comfortable.

raviolo · 01/12/2021 21:24

18 - it's come on twice so far this year but we are terraced and seem to absorb heat from either side

Juniper68 · 01/12/2021 21:26

22 or 23 but internal doors are all open so old dog can wander. Down to 20 at night. It's not overly warm in our house. Old house though.

tilder · 01/12/2021 21:27

I'm quite shocked at how hot some people's houses must be. Especially the heating at night.

Even more shocked by how quickly the houses cool down.

19 in the day, off at night. I love a cold room at night.

princesspeppax · 01/12/2021 21:31

24 permanently

Comfortsex · 01/12/2021 21:34

Ours is set to 8 degrees. I increase the DCs room to 17 degrees before bedtime and it turns off an hour after bedtime. I heat the rooms I use individually depending on what I'm doing. 20 if sat down, 18 if moving around.

Currently in a home set to 73 Fahrenheit (about 23) and I'm really struggling.

Scarby9 · 01/12/2021 21:37

Off at night obviously.

TuftyMarmoset · 01/12/2021 21:40

17 during the day (I wfh), 14 at night. Did have it at 19 during the day for a few days last week as we had the supercold.

Megan2018 · 01/12/2021 21:42

19 in most rooms, 21 in sitting room when woodburner not lit and the room I work in. We have a fully smart system with underfloor heating so it’s very precise. I change zones on an app or there’s a thermostat in every zone.

FinallyHere · 01/12/2021 21:43

DH's mobility and circulation is compromised following surgery (for cancer, decades ago) so he really feels the cold. I am always hot. He prefers the temperature at 25dC we compromise on 22dC.

I've got him an electric throw for Christmas

Let's see whether he uses it. The trouble is he doesn't notice getting or being cold, til he starts to shiver.

The joys of getting older.

Juanbablo · 01/12/2021 21:45
  1. Heating is off at night. I do get really cold though and our living room is quite a cold room as the whole back wall is a window.
LoveFall · 01/12/2021 21:48

Ours is set to 19C. If it gets really cold (below zero) sometimes we have to turn it up a bit but never above 21.

DrCoconut · 01/12/2021 21:49

We don't have a thermostat. The heating is on or off. The house is quite cold and difficult to heat despite being a terrace.

Sailor2009 · 01/12/2021 21:50

Depends. If I was the last one to walk past it about 20. If my partner was last past it, closer to 10.

TuftyMarmoset · 01/12/2021 21:52

So can’t you choose what temperature it’s heating to when it’s on? Confused
