Opinions on this dress for Christmas do?

Any opinions welcome on this dress for my Christmas do - have been looking for ages and haven't got a clue! The do is technically black tie but I know other people are wearing party type dresses. For context I'm 37, don't want it to be too tarty but not old woman either, think this would come to just above the knee!

What colour is your hair and skin? I'm a pale blond and that would look very....raw on me. I think it's in the 'sexy eyecatching' category which I'm less into these days. But it certainly would look 'party' worthy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/11/2021 21:19

What does 'not old woman' even mean? Casual ageism so annoying.

Need to see it on really. It looks okay.

ChirpyChirp · 27/11/2021 21:19

How tall are you? I'm 5ft6 and that looks like it would come up quite short on me. Might be the angle of the photo though!

It's nice and sparkly!

Tarty?

Old woman?

HumunaHey · 27/11/2021 21:22

It really depends on your body shape. Would need to see it on, or at least on a model to bring it to life iyswim.

AnyFucker · 27/11/2021 21:24

Cheap and nasty

Changechangychange · 27/11/2021 21:32

It’s hard to say without seeing it on you, but if you are 37 you will be walking a fine line between “eye-catching” and “I am the reincarnation of Dorian Green”.

It is also really not black tie at all - are the other people wearing party dresses at the same age/level of seniority as you? You don’t want to be the only manager, or only person over 30, in a shorty glittery dress when all of your work peers are in actual black tie.

TatianaBis · 27/11/2021 21:36

I think it’s fine OP. I’ve seen so much worse on here.

I don’t like the waist seam so I’d buy some ribbon the same colour to cover it.

SequinnedShawl · 27/11/2021 21:44

It looks very short. I object to your old woman comment so I'll not comment further except to say one day you'll be older too.

Hopefully in emotional maturity too.

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 27/11/2021 21:49

It's ok

SelfHelpPlease · 27/11/2021 21:52

Its really nice and christmassy. You're 37, not 57. Still okay to wear these dresses. Smile

And at 57, if said 57 year old wants to.
Camomila · 27/11/2021 22:02

I really like it!

I'm 33 and short, I'd wear it with black tights, flat boots, and a big cozy cardigan.

Catcrazy83 · 27/11/2021 22:03

I like it for a Christmas do

NashvilleQueen · 27/11/2021 22:06

I don't think it's right for something billed as black tie. Depending on your height it could be very short.

Bobbybobbins · 27/11/2021 22:07

I wouldn't say it's black tie tbh

Poisinedmummy · 27/11/2021 22:12

I like it!

GloriaSilver · 27/11/2021 22:12

I don’t like it. I don’t really like anything about it sorry. It looks itchy.
What colour is your hair? Be nice on an auburn hair maybe?

steppemum · 27/11/2021 22:13

yes but not for a black tie.

This dress is fun, but not black tie

imnotacelebritygetmeoutofhere · 27/11/2021 22:16

It's a nice dress but I don't think you can get away with this for a black tie event.

Camomila · 27/11/2021 22:17

Oops, missed that bit! Maybe not then.

Fl0w3ry · 27/11/2021 22:18

I like it. I don’t understand why the comments seem to be swaying towards the negative.
It’s sparkly and Christmassy. Your age is irrelevant The only opinion that should matter is your own, but my opinion is wear it.

Comedycook · 27/11/2021 22:22

I like it...it's not 'black tie' though imo

LowlandLucky · 27/11/2021 22:23

It would look cheap for a staff night out but 10xs worse for a black tie event
