Parps,
"Migration Watch UK are not a disinterested body but a think tank with a political position.
It's not just 'info' they provide, in the neutral sense"

So how do you think they are not neutral? And what do you think their 'political position' is?

Sorry I know I will be pilloried for saying this but anyone arriving in this way should be sent back to the EU the same day. That removes any incentive to come in the first place. Got to be cruel to be kind!
You mean something like the Dublin Regulation - I wonder what happened to that..?

Why? People are entitled to claim asylum in the UK. As I understand it, the much touted “they should claim asylum in the first safe country they enter” simply isn’t true.

Megan,

I'm inclined to agree but it won't be necessary soon as the weather is getting worse and only an idiot would set sail in a dingy in the coming weather !

Megan1992xx · 01/12/2021 20:06

Not able to claim asylum if they are already back in France!

Ellen888 · 01/12/2021 20:24

I think they should push the boats/vessels back - that worked in Australia.

But that idea has been thrown out in safety grounds.

So far this year we've had 25, 000 migrants entering UK illegally by these means. All these people need to be housed, fed and clothed until they are processed.

Here is the cost ; www.migrationwatchuk.org/news/2020/10/03/cost-of-housing-and-payments-for-failed-asylum-claimants-estimated-at-130-million-per-year

When your eyes have finished watering may I suggest you contact you MP and ask foe a solution?

Suppose we can put them up at your place then.

Let's ask Wee Nick about this, shall we? She did say she would be happy to take in a family of Syrian refugees... but I don't think it's happened yet...
