Calling Rolex Owners

I've been 'courting' my Rolex contact for well over a year without successfully sourcing the watch I want (there is only one I'm looking for) newly released (ish) and they are few and far between.

Can anyone recommend anything else I can do to expedite it? I can't make one magically appear in store but can I try to get in touch with a head office? I'm desperate for tips.

I was aghast at the hoops you have to jump through to get a Rolex and keeping my contact sweet is really pissing me off!! I'm considering tell her to stuff it but I really really want it!!!

Ooh what is it you're after?

It's a wish list not a waiting list you know Grin

Waiting lists at different dealers??

ZealAndArdour · 23/11/2021 20:47

Buy another less desirable Rolex from them in the long game to actually get the one you want.

My dad has just registered for one that isn’t his first choice, in the long game to get himself his all time longed for watch for his 60th in three years time. The woman in the jewellers did say that they’re out of stock of absolutely everything and have been for some time.

Also, before anyone says anything snarky, he’s not from money or middle class, he worked down the pit for most of my childhood, he just likes watches and has been very careful with his money.

FazedNotPhased · 23/11/2021 20:48

This is the most unrelatable thing I have ever read on here

Grin

Aghast? You know that's literally their business model and why you've been sucked in. You do, right? It pains me when people make enough money to buy things like this without understanding the basics of marketing.

charabanctrip · 23/11/2021 20:53

Can't you just buy a handbag instead?

ILoveHuskies · 23/11/2021 20:57

@AnyFucker

My heart bleeds
🤣🤣🤣🤣

Also what are "the hoops you have to jump through" ? there's loads of Rolexes in the window of the Goldsmiths in our local shopping mall. (Leicester). Maybe I'm missing something

MrsAmaretto · 23/11/2021 20:59

Really??!! I just went in and bought one? Though this was 20years ago. I’m actually considering selling it as it’s trebled in value and I could put the money into my mortgage instead.

MeridasMum · 23/11/2021 21:00

@Aunty I’ve tried! They just refer me back. We’re going on holiday to the US next month and I called a dealer there who also referred me back to my original contact. It’s like they don’t want to steal commission from each other.

@Zeal That’s something to think about, thanks. Similarly to your dad, this is for a special birthday (which has now passed). I, too, am not loaded and I know I’m lucky to get this (if I do!!!). It’s a saved-for VERY special treat.

@MrsTerry Yes, I was incredibly surprised that it was so difficult. I knew I couldn’t just drop in and pick one up but I honestly didn’t realise the challenge . Silly me, eh? 😂 Don’t let it pain you. It’s really not worth it.

I think it's partly because I am being really picky - there's only one I want. Also covid hasn't helped (so they say) AND the fact they are increasing the 'exclusivity' and making the watches harder to get.

You took the words right out of my mouth...

Mortime · 23/11/2021 21:04

I just got this one. Have had it on order for about 8 months. We had already purchased a much cheaper Rolex years ago and that made a big difference. You need to keep up the relationship to have any hope of getting one im afraid, although I read an article in the Times this morning that said the demand is so high, that if you do get one it will be worth around 30-50% more when you walk out of the door. It’s pretty much the best return on an investment you can get at the moment

Congrats, it's lovely.

I agree re the mark-up. I could get 'my' watch pre-owned for 50% more right now.

They really are! Most indestructible bit of kit I've ever had, mine has taken many more years worth of beating than my previous watches.

There's a shortage of them at the moment, second hand models have risen in price to more than new ones as there aren't enough of them for sale at the moment. Good luck.

Asdf12345 · 23/11/2021 21:08

I ended up going omega for my last watch because of all the supply issues.

AdoraBell · 23/11/2021 21:10

Go to a jewellery shop. A few companies sell them, Goldsmiths, Mappin & Webb. If you are in London there is a store opposite Harrods, Boucheron I think.

AuntieJoyce · 23/11/2021 21:12

Nice @Mortime i like the dark face

@MeridasMum try different dealers with random members of your family on wait list. Borrow a rolex to wear on your visit

At least you’ll get a nice glass of bubbly whilst you look at what you’ll have to wait two years for Grin

justswaying · 23/11/2021 21:15

I feel your pain... I'm on the list for a Patek, it's been two years and I was promised it'd be here in time for Christmas but I don't think that's going to happen!
DH has one but we had to have an interview before that, and it took 18months. It's madness!

traveltheworld1986 · 23/11/2021 21:20

You need to build up a purchase history with most retailers (including the one I work for) Rolex only supply a limited amount of stock to their wholesalers and the waiting lists, especially for the limited pieces can be years. For some models unless you have a purchase history with the retailer they won't even consider putting you on a waiting list. I would suggest buying another in the meantime (if you have the money) and eventually your time will come with the high demand pieces. Or lower your expectations and go for a 'regular' Rolex model.

AdoraBell · 23/11/2021 21:23

That’s a real beauty Mortime

lobsteroll · 23/11/2021 21:24

Which one are you after?

MadTilda · 23/11/2021 21:25

does it come with a step counter?

"Had to have an interview" for a watch 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😩😩

I know loads of people who wear fakes, aren't you worried people will just assume it's a fake? As they're so expensive and apparently hard to get
