Fucking dogs!

Dogscanteatonions · 17/11/2021 20:41

I am so fucking done with dogs

I am sick of being jumped all over by dogs when I'm out running. I always slow to a walk when a dog approaches, I stand still if they seem aggressive. I have lost count of how many dogs that have jumped up on me and have made me muddy, left scratches from their nails on my arms and thighs
or ripped/pulled my clothing. I'm actually very lucky never to have been bitten.
.
I am so fucking fed up of avoiding piles of dog shit - on some of the routes I run or walk I can count up to a dozen piles just left on the path.

I am so fucking fed up of my neighbour's dogs barking. I can't complain as they are the kind of people who will make my life hell but on the regular occasions they are out they bark CONSTANTLY. Sometimes all night long.

I am fed up of having to pass a neighbour's house where they let their dog shit in the front garden and don't clear out for days and days. I walk past daily and it stinks to high heaven.

I am fucking fed up of dogs in cafes, pubs and restaurants. I, like many people are allergic and it leaves me sneezing for hours and hours. One pub we were in you literally had to clamber over 6 dogs to get to the bar.

Now today on here there are loads of people saying they think it's ok to put their dog shit in someone else's bin.

This is even without the terrible dog attacks that happen.

I know this will rile entitled dog owners but seriously has anyone else just fucking had enough?

(Ps my current username came from a thread where a poster's dinner of cottage pie had been given to the dog where everyone piled on to say dogs can't eat onions. I don't have a dog 🤣)

I am with you OP

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 17/11/2021 21:17

Do we really honestly need another dog bashing thread. It isn't the dogs it is the twatty owners that are the problem. We all know this and threads like this are done to bloody death

Measureformeasure · 17/11/2021 21:17

I'm with you OP. All that you've described annoys me too. I also hate the dog buggies that are lined up outside cafes near me. Why does a dog need to be pushed around? Don't get me started on "fur babies".

Feelingofftoday · 17/11/2021 21:18

@Dentistlakes

This is one of the reasons I run very early in the morning. I do see dog walkers, but it’s always the responsible ones (crappy owners tend not to walk their dogs at 5am) and I’ve never had an issue. Take the same route 4 hours later and it’s carnage. The number of dogs has done crazy in the past 18 months. I do see more dog poo than before but not an excessive amount, although the street cleaning is efficient and daily around us as it’s a very busy area for recreation.

I don’t know what the answer is, but I guess we’ll have to live with it at least for the next 10-15 years! I love dogs and my family have trained gun dogs so I’m no stranger to them, but a trained working dog is a pleasure to be around compared to an I’ll trained pet.

I used to jog but after a Great Dane jumped up and put its paws on my shoulders and the owner didn't give a shit I stopped.

So dogs are to blame for me getting fatter Grin

ColinTheKoala · 17/11/2021 21:18

People take their dogs everywhere, you don't have to be the producer of dodgy adverts ;) Crew Clothing, my local garden centre, my work office, and various cafes spring to mind.

I would also prefer to live in a dog-free world, although I realise that some guide and assistance dogs are absolutely essential for their owners' quality of life.

Dogs should not be in cafes and shops because some people have allergies. We bend over backwards to accommodate dietary allergies (quite rightly) so why do we allow dogs inside when it's not necessary?

Chocochick · 17/11/2021 21:18

I’m with you. Dogs seem to be given far more preferential treatment than children and a lot of owners think it’s ok to have them running around with no lead in parks full of children without a care in the world about children who are scared of them. My youngest was jumped on and knocked over by a dog. He was in bits (and so was I). 5 minutes later the owner did come to see if he was ok but said: “he’s only a puppy and wants to play”. Now imagine if I let my kids jump on people and told them: “they’re only little and want to play!”
My eldest has been barked at and chased a few times and is terrified of certain dogs.

ColinTheKoala · 17/11/2021 21:19

Sorry for the duplication, I just got the circle of doom and hadn't realised the first attempt had worked Grin

Namechangeforthis88 · 17/11/2021 21:19

It's all very well saying the problem is the owner, but if they didn't have the dog, there wouldn't be a problem.

XenoBitch · 17/11/2021 21:20

@ILoveAllRainbowsx

What I don't understand is how the dog walkers don't walk in all the dog poo but they leave behind. Or don't they care about walking in dog's poo?
I have a dog, and I am fed up in trodding in other people's dog shit in the park. I also tend to trod in my own dog's sometimes in the garden. But that is down to me.

I live in a busy dog place and last year we managed to catch the one man who was constantly not cleaning up after his dogs on CCTV and he was confronted. "Male, pale and Stale" is the description you can use for him. I suspect you won't find many poofenders on Mumsnet that will admit that they leave it behind.

But dogs exist? So I don't really understand your point?
CaptainNelson · 17/11/2021 21:22

Yes to the extendable leads - a dog at the end of one of those is usually three or four times stronger than the owner. Also to people who treat their dogs like children, 'Oh Benji, I told you not to go running off over there, you're trailing your lead through the mud' and the like.
I am a dog owner. He's often off-lead - now that he's older, and I know how he'll behave. When he was younger, he spent a lot of time on a long line and being called back and put on the lead. That's what you do. Unfortunately, and I'm really sorry to be seen as part of this group, dog ownership now is about almost anything but the actual dog.
But then I'm one of those who walks at the crack of (pre)dawn to avoid all the other dog owners!
Not all dogs are bad, not all owners are bad, but the balance is definitely skewed the wrong way.

Feelingofftoday · 17/11/2021 21:22

@AllThingsServeTheBeam
You do know they're bred to demand???

knightsinwhitesatin · 17/11/2021 21:22

I am a dog owner and I agree with you OP.
My dog was attacked once so I am now very anxious around other dogs. I’ve had German shepherds jump at me in the park, getting their paws on my back when I picked up my (on lead) dog, and the owner told me i was being unreasonable and I should have my dog off lead so they can ‘play’. Some people are unreal. I had my toddler daughter with me at the time.
Have also had a dog run up and steal the sock off my daughters foot when she was only months old, while she was in pram!
There are piles of poo near where live. People are just not responsible owners. I don’t know what the answer is but it’s def got worse since lockdown.

mildredhubble48 · 17/11/2021 21:22

@Namechangeforthis88 so where would all the dogs go then? Or should they be left to go extinct just because some people don't like them?

Yanbu to be annoyed by these things op but as many others have said, it's pretty obvious that the problem here isn't the dog it's the owners. My dogs don't go off lead in public as they don't have 100% recall. I also would never dream of leaving their shit lying around. People who do that are irresponsible owners but it's a bit daft to blame a dumb animal for that.

Dogs do amazing work in my areas - police dogs, army dogs, guide dogs. They are great companions and clever animals. But they need to be trained well and managed responsibly.

My grandad had one of those dog buggies. His dog was elderly and struggled to walk far, but still enjoyed getting out and watching the world go by.

I do refer to my dog as my fur baby. So what? How does it harm you?

Gliderx · 17/11/2021 21:22

I agree with a lot of what you say.

If your neighbours' dog is constantly barking, play barking noise at top volume on YouTube whenever you're out of the house on a loop. Hopefully their dog will tire itself out barking back. If they mention this to you, look blankly and say, "But I don't have a dog. Are you sure it's not your dog you're hearing? After all, it barks the whole time, we're always hearing it though we didn't want to say anything".

hangrylady · 17/11/2021 21:23

YANBU. I have to go to people's homes for work and some dog owners are fucking oblivious. In what world is it ok to let your dog constantly jump up on a stranger who you are paying to provide a service in your home? How is it OK to let your massive Alsatian follow me round sticking it's nose in my crotch? I say this as someone who loves dogs and it's a bloody good job as some people would freak out.

mildredhubble48 · 17/11/2021 21:23

Many areas *

Evanna13 · 17/11/2021 21:23

I used to love dogs but unfortunately my feelings have changed recently.

My kids (5&7) were never afraid of dogs until last year when they were playing in the park and a big dog came over barking loudly, jumped on them and knocked them over. Since then they are terrified...

I can no longer take them to the park because they are so afraid of all the dogs off their leads. Walking home from school last week a small dog came up to one of them, barking and jumping. They both started screaming and it was awful. Now they will go onto the road to avoid a dog on the footpath which is obviously dangerous. I get such a stressful feeling when I see a dog approaching us now...

I know there are some excellent dog owners out there and some wonderful dogs but unfortunately some bad ones too.

Lightisnotwhite · 17/11/2021 21:24

It’s an animal. It shares the planet like all the others messy, dangerous, noisy animals.
Living in a human dominated, sanitised town is hardly good for the planet is it ( look at what birds we all have pigeons, crows and magpies isn’t it).
Hope the flipping badgers trip you over on your next narcissist run in the outdoors.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 17/11/2021 21:24

I have a dog, I love her to bits. However, she is well trained and doesn't jump at people, doesn't bark other than when you first walk in my house and I am OCD about cleaning up after her and either out the poop into proper dog bins or my own dustbin which I pay to have cleaned every time it is emptied to prevent nasty smells.

Your issue isn't with dogs, it is with knobhead owners who have no respect for their animals or other people. A dog cannot clean up a front yard after themselves, the mess and the smell is the result of idiot owners who don't care. I have the same issue with my neighbour whose dogs are out 24/7 including when they go on holiday and bark constantly. They also hurl themselves against the fence and bark and growl aggressively scaring both myself and my daughter. It isn't the dog's fault though, my neighbours are wankers.

Dogs do not belong in shops, restaurants or cafe's. Pubs I'm not so bothered about.

I don't agree with breeding. But that is never going to stop is it? So there will always be dogs. They're not going to just not be here one day. Everything the op mentions is down to shitty owners. My dog doesn't bark and annoy the neighbours. He goes off lead but never approaches anyone or any other dog. He only goes to places that allow dogs and I pick up his shit.
