She hates my glasses

My wife hates my glasses. I need them more as I’m getting older and I actually think they are ok. I’ve asked others who also think they’re ok. But my wife tells me they’re awful every time I put them on. Everyday sometimes several times a day. It annoys me and sometimes it leads to an argument. She thinks it’s fine to constantly tell me and that I should go and get some different ones. She also says others are just saying they’re ok and they aren’t being honest? Is it me? Because it’s really annoying me

Wear whichever glasses you like; it’s you that has to have them perched on the front of your face, not her. She should pipe down.

I have loads of different pairs of glasses. I’ve never asked DH what he thinks and he’s never commented (he wouldn’t dare, to be fair.)

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 11/11/2021 15:30

She's being horrible

BIWI · 11/11/2021 15:31

What a bizarre thing to join Mumsnet to post about!

Don't be such a wet lettuce - just tell her you like them and you're sticking with them. And then ignore her.

SleighBells21 · 11/11/2021 15:32

It's her.

Wear whichever glasses you like

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 11/11/2021 15:42

She's mean

Iamanicepersonreally · 11/11/2021 15:44

Just tell her to shut up

vodkaredbullgirl · 11/11/2021 15:44
Hmm
Isitmeorwot · 11/11/2021 15:55

Ha! Thanks for all the replies! (Especially the wet lettuce one) I joined to ask because my wife uses this forum sometimes to convince me that she’s right about stuff so sneakily thought I’d turn the tables on her. 😉

You have all told me what I was already thinking so thanks

Do you need a second pair, spares? Get her to come and choose with you and find some you both like. Not really worth falling out over. I am v v short sighted ask DH opinion on mine and he does the same. She does sound rude though.

arootintootingoodtime · 11/11/2021 16:08

All that matters is that you like them! Constantly commenting on them is mean.

Willowcat77 · 11/11/2021 16:10

What kind of glasses are they? Maybe post a picture?

TheCreamCaker · 11/11/2021 16:10

She's being mean. You need glasses, you've got ones that do the job and that you like. Tell her you don't like her hair/clothes/arse.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/11/2021 16:13

As long as they're not held together with sellotape/have an arm replaced with some green garden wire/have a lens that falls out every time you put them down (hello Polka's DGF!) you should be fine. Is it the style she doesn't like?

LynetteScavo · 11/11/2021 16:22

If DH told me my glasses were awful I'd ask him to come with me and help me choose some. But then I respect his opinion. If he wore glasses I hated I'd just laugh and point. And then suggest he gets another pair.

I do have a pair of reading glasses in bought online without trying on. DH finds them hilarious (so do most other people tbh)and although I think they're great. I wouldn't wander about with DH wearing them. not just because they're reading glasses and I can see if I'm wandering about wearing them

I don't actually think your DW is being mean.

Sirzy · 11/11/2021 16:25

“Good job your not wearing them” is the only answer to anyone providing unwanted critique on anything someone is wearing

supremelybaffled · 11/11/2021 16:30

You need to get yourself a pair of Dame Edna glasses, and see what she makes of those.

PleasantBirthday · 11/11/2021 16:32

If you need glasses, you need glasses.

Also, there's no need to make the same point over and over again. Usually most people understand that you don't like their goggles the first time you've said it.

AmyDudley · 11/11/2021 16:42

Does she hate the particular pair you have or the fact that you have to wear glasses ? (not that it matters she's wrong whichever) . Are your glasses especially outlandish (I'm thinking bright pink with side wings and crystals embedded in them) in which case she may have a point., although it's still ultimately your choice.

Honestly just tell her you like them, so you'll continue wearing them as you need them to see, and you're bored of hearing how she doesn't like them. It's none of her business, I've worn glasses most of my life - I don't give a monkey's what anyone else thinks about them.

HotPenguin · 11/11/2021 16:45

@supremelybaffled has nailed it.

RB68 · 11/11/2021 16:46

get a quote to have your eyes lasered I say

Whataboutye88 · 11/11/2021 16:47

A difficult one - it does depend a bit on the glasses. If they’re broken/falling apart/don’t fit, maybe it’s time for a new pair? Or she could just be being mean!

Tal45 · 11/11/2021 16:48

I hate my OH's glasses, I think they make him look like a serial killer. I don't like glasses full stop though. I've told him a few times but I don't expect him not to wear them and I don't mention it every time.

Tell your wife that you know she doesn't like them but it's either wear them or not see and that she can have some input when you next get a pair.

Platax · 11/11/2021 16:56

What is it that she hates about them? Has she said what sort of glasses she thinks you should have instead?

pictish · 11/11/2021 16:59

Maybe she thinks they don’t suit you. No one else is going to tell you your glasses are crap are they?
