She hates my glasses

Isitmeorwot · 11/11/2021 15:05

My wife hates my glasses. I need them more as I’m getting older and I actually think they are ok. I’ve asked others who also think they’re ok. But my wife tells me they’re awful every time I put them on. Everyday sometimes several times a day. It annoys me and sometimes it leads to an argument. She thinks it’s fine to constantly tell me and that I should go and get some different ones. She also says others are just saying they’re ok and they aren’t being honest? Is it me? Because it’s really annoying me

@BIWI

What a bizarre thing to join Mumsnet to post about!

Don't be such a wet lettuce - just tell her you like them and you're sticking with them. And then ignore her.

This wouldn't have been the response if a woman had said this about a man! People would have been on here saying he's verbally abusive as perHmm
Maireas · 11/11/2021 20:52

Buy two monocles, one for each eye.
See if that makes her happy.

hibye123 · 11/11/2021 20:52

*Get contact lenses?

Would you still be attracted to her if she wore glasses? Or do you think trying to be attractive should only apply to women?*

What are you actually talking about😂😂😂

*I think you should have got her opinion when you were choosing them tbh.

I would never buy glasses without getting DH's opinion - he's the one that has to look at them every time he sees my face!*

😕

@Isitmeorwot

I understand she doesn’t like them and when the time comes to get a new pair I will happily take advice. I guess it’s annoying how she has to say it every time I put them on, and even refuses to speak to me until I take them off. That really gets my back up.
Refusing to speak to you until you take them off is a bit unpleasant, and bonkers. Unless they’re really outlandish. Are they designer ones made from the skeletons of murdered kittens? Or gigantic fluorescent pink plastic ones that look like they come from a joke shop? If they’re normal glasses her reaction is a bit extreme.
BrisbaneandGone · 11/11/2021 21:04

I wouldn't post a pic OP, it doesn't matter a jot what anyone else thinks about your glasses, your only response to negative comments is fuck off

Tigertigertigertiger · 11/11/2021 21:04

@Rainbowheart1

I understand where she is coming from, My OH does the same with his beard/hair.

I can’t stand it and he looks like a dick, I try and tell him but he either don’t care or just thinks I’m being mean. I’ve tried to tell him so many times that now it just makes my stomach turn and I instantly have my back up and can’t look at him when he has it that way.

I know it’s shallow, I know it’s stupid, but I generally can’t stand it. If she mentions it time and time again, it’s obviously something she finds excruciating

I feel EXACTLY like this about my dh’s beard. I posted about it here and was roundly told off by almost everyone

Isitmeorwot · 11/11/2021 21:18

No paper clip. I think it’s because I’m new. Have to wait 48 hours.

I guess the debate has become a bit more balanced with some people thinking she has the right to get on at me about it? In case I’m offensive to her eyes? Crazy? I’m just wearing a pair of glasses to see properly. It’s also just in the house, not like I’m out trying to be cool or embarrassing her in public! I’m just at home. I’ll post a pic when I am able to. Thanks for the responses, it has been interesting 🤓👍

I like them - they’re literally the least offensive pair of glasses I’ve ever seen 😅

RiaOverTheRainbow · 13/11/2021 16:17

Those look like completely normal, inoffensive glasses to me. Does your wife often put you down?

Jennalong · 13/11/2021 16:19

@PolkadotsAndMoonbeams

I thought you were talking about my dh then .😅

Jennalong · 13/11/2021 16:21

Those glasses are perfectly ok.

daisym00n · 13/11/2021 16:21

Your wife is being very rude. They suit you.

girlmom21 · 13/11/2021 16:22

There's nothing wrong with your glasses. Tag your wife.
Tell her she's lost the argument this time!

Turtles25 · 13/11/2021 16:29

They're absolutely fine and suit you well.

I'm thinking it's time your wife gets her eyes tested. Wink

TopCatsTopHat · 13/11/2021 16:31

People who think they have a right to be like a dog with a bone over their opinions are tedious and self centred.

Herja · 13/11/2021 16:31

There is nothing wrong with those glasses! I have had some 'interesting' glasses in my time, and also worn some held together with glue and wire - I thus feel in good position to say that those are very normal and innofensive and not at all odd (as mine sometimes are).

You're wife is just being a wanker. It's unnecessary and frankly nasty behaviour. Especially refusing to talk to you while you wear them; that's either painfully childish, or borderline abusive (wouldn't like to judge which), either way absolutely unacceptable in a loving, adult partner though.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 13/11/2021 16:32

They're lovely glasses and they suit you! Your wife is being horrible.

TopCatsTopHat · 13/11/2021 16:33

Glasses look fine to me. Try some Dame Edna Everage ones and see if she prefers. Grin

That's bloody weird of her. She'll only speak to you when you have uncorrected vision?
ItsNotNormalLove · 13/11/2021 17:10

Honestly I was expecting really horrible glasses but they're actually fine! They suit your face. It might be that they give your wife the 'ick' for some reason and there's nothing she can do about that unfortunately. Sure, you need to be able to see properly. But unless you look in a mirror you're not seeing them. She has to see them when she looks at you. I think both going to choose some that you both like is the solution.

IncompleteSenten · 13/11/2021 17:10

Your wife is fucking ridiculous. Not speaking to you until you take them off. 🙄 She is pathetic.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 13/11/2021 17:11

Firstly they look fine.

But even if they didn't, your wife sounds horrible.

Refusing to speak to you until you take your (completely inoffensive) glasses off?! Abusive and nasty AF.

And weird, to be honest.

She doesn't sound like a nice person or a good partner.

Yusanaim · 13/11/2021 17:17

No, they don't suit you. They are too big a design for your slim face. They are too wide, don't flatter.
The frames are too dark.
search online for reading glasses - you can buy them for a tenner. Perhaps wire frames would suit you better.

steppemum · 13/11/2021 17:18

When I first met dh, he had awful glasses.
Truly awful.
Made him look so old fashioned and so old.

When they were up for replacement I suggested he tried a more modern style. We went together and he tried on styles he would never have tried before. They looked great. he was surprised at how good they look and how much they suited his face.

(He got a decent hair cut too!)

So, I do have sympathy with your wife. But the way she is doing this is unkind and annoying, and not going to encourage you to change is it?
