She hates my glasses

My wife hates my glasses. I need them more as I’m getting older and I actually think they are ok. I’ve asked others who also think they’re ok. But my wife tells me they’re awful every time I put them on. Everyday sometimes several times a day. It annoys me and sometimes it leads to an argument. She thinks it’s fine to constantly tell me and that I should go and get some different ones. She also says others are just saying they’re ok and they aren’t being honest? Is it me? Because it’s really annoying me

Get contact lenses?

Would you still be attracted to her if she wore glasses? Or do you think trying to be attractive should only apply to women?

BrunoJenkins · 11/11/2021 17:06

I think you should have got her opinion when you were choosing them tbh.

I would never buy glasses without getting DH's opinion - he's the one that has to look at them every time he sees my face!

makelovenotpetrol · 11/11/2021 17:09

Maybe she's correct and they don't suit you. No one else is going to tell you that really are they - they will be being polite. If you can't get an honest opinion from your partner then who can you get one from? She's likely trying to stop you walking around with glasses that dont suit you!!

miltonj · 11/11/2021 17:09

Obviously you liking them is the main thing and she shouldn't be constantly on about it BUT... she is your wife and it's important that she's attracted to you for the marriage to work. Maybe she just isn't attracted to you in them and doesn't want it to become a thing.

My husband during lockdown when spec savers was closed got some dodgy glasses of the internet and honestly I just couldn't take him seriously in them, he looked like a teenage girl/Velma from scooby soo. So I completely see where she's coming from! So maybe do take what she's saying on board, but don't let her be horrible to you about it.

Wow. Skippy would have been proud of that leap. And you've assumed OP is a man.

Seriously a pair of glasses would stop you being attracted to someone ? That takes shallow to new depths.

Really?!

I am amazed people seem to have the impression that someone’s partner gets to decide what glasses they wear or even if they wear glasses!

If my partner is with me when I am picking new glasses then I may ask his opinion at that point but even then ultimately it’s me wearing them so it’s me who gets the final decision!

Isitmeorwot · 11/11/2021 17:57

I understand she doesn’t like them and when the time comes to get a new pair I will happily take advice. I guess it’s annoying how she has to say it every time I put them on, and even refuses to speak to me until I take them off. That really gets my back up.

Completely agree.

Your wife needs to stop going on - rude and mean.

Yes well that is very silly. She ought to grow up. Embarrassing behaviour really.
Rainbowheart1 · 11/11/2021 18:05

I understand where she is coming from, My OH does the same with his beard/hair.

I can’t stand it and he looks like a dick, I try and tell him but he either don’t care or just thinks I’m being mean. I’ve tried to tell him so many times that now it just makes my stomach turn and I instantly have my back up and can’t look at him when he has it that way.

I know it’s shallow, I know it’s stupid, but I generally can’t stand it. If she mentions it time and time again, it’s obviously something she finds excruciating.

I'd tell her to see a doctor she's obviously completely lost her marbles.

FourEyesGood · 11/11/2021 18:27

I can’t believe that some people are saying you should get contacts or get lasered (terrifying idea! I know some people do it, but it’s a horrible thought. Eyes and lasers shouldn’t go together). Even if your wife doesn’t like your glasses, she shouldn’t be telling you several times a day - what on earth does she expect you to do about it between, say, breakfast and lunch? If you need glasses and you’re happy with them, she should be keeping her negativity to itself.

Bloody hell!
HaroldSteptoesHorse · 11/11/2021 18:33

I’d tell her to fuck off as I can wear what I want.

Silentnight87 · 11/11/2021 19:45

She sounds like a bully and self absorbed. Especially given your last comment. They're you're glasses, not hers. I don't like my husband's glasses, but I certainly don't bang on about it all the time.

I also think it's a shame that you have to resort to strangers to let you know you're not being unreasonable when she's clearly being horrible and bullish. Is she always like this? If roles were reversed (I am assuming you are a man) and it was a man saying this to a woman there would be uproar and hoards of people saying ltb. Her obsessing over something so small such as glasses makes me wonder what she's really like overall.

Bonbon21 · 11/11/2021 19:51

She has expressed her opinion.
She is entitled to do that.
But that is the end of the matter.

...or maybe it's not your specs you need to change.....😉

Regularsizedrudy · 11/11/2021 20:09

We must see the glasses

Isitmeorwot · 11/11/2021 20:30

Take a picture and save it - you can add it to your post by clicking on the paperclip at the bottom of the box.
Maireas · 11/11/2021 20:46

Sorry, @Deadringer! That was for the OP

Maireas · 11/11/2021 20:46

We have to see these glasses
