I don't know if I'm in awe or outraged Grin

My kid has just given me the most epic Christmas list
OP posts:

My DD (13) has a rubbish list - she's asked for:
chocolate
chocolate
chocolate
flying saucers (i.e. sweets)
white and black trainer socks
a quick family game (she's always wanting to play games, but we complain some take too long)
a screen protector (for her phone, hers is cracked)
a waffle iron
felt tip pens
a bucket (to feed the pony she rides)
a one-cup thermos flask

I mean - bless her for not being demanding but that really doesn't give us much to go on! She does want a laptop and I've said we'll go halves so that's the biggie - but aunts and uncles etc are not going to be too impressed with her list......

OP - ignore the sarky comments about dictionaries! As soon as I saw the list I knew you'd get flak from those MN parents whose kids are perfect at everything. Neither of my DC are great at literacy - but have other strengths. I wasn't brave enough to upload the actual list here.....Grin

He he very funny and brilliantly thought out list. Especially like the teddy, but a great range of items and categories. As long as he’s not under the expectation all (or even most) of it is guaranteed and will have a huge meltdown on the day when it doesn’t materialise, you have to admire the creativity!

Blueink · 13/11/2021 01:27

Also like the low key lists as well…
Parents jeopardising their health and going in to debt to fulfil a Christmas list isn’t what any kid would actually want (except maybe Violet in the Chocolate Factory “Daddy, I want a trained Squirrel”).

Alleycat1 · 13/11/2021 05:27

My Christmas list as a child always contained one word: Harp. I had absolutely no idea how incredibly expensive they are. My poor parents knowing that I would be disappointed every year. I would still like one but am now a pensioner and will have to wait until I pass through the pearly gates.
Some of the lists on this post are adorable . Wonderful to see that teddies are still on some wish lists.

sashh · 13/11/2021 05:49

OP

I think you should get one of those tiny crochet animals teddy (see the thread asking for a tiny box) and pretend you thought he wanted the smallest teddy.

I actually got a large teddy at that age, not the one he wants but somewhere my mum has a pic of the teddy sitting in a chair and me sitting in on the teddy's knee.

Bless her, my DD is similar, Is there anything else the pony “needs”. I get that you might not want to spend a fortune if it’s not your pony, but maybe a few bits/new head collar, bit of pony bling, etc? Or maybe tickets to something horsey for 2022?
SillyShoes · 13/11/2021 07:53

@RockyReef

I love that he/she has specified that the Nike Airs are (shoes) (from Nike) 🤣🤣

I think my boys live in a little rural bubble as they wouldn't have a clue what most of these things were (I don't either) or maybe they are just younger. My 10 year old's list so far has 2 Lego sets, surf wax, some books, a Playmobil dragon, a bootbuddy and a wooden sword on it. My 7 year olds list is even shorter with just 1 book, some Lego (unspecified), a real rhino, a toy rhino and a new pair of football boots on. There's time yet for them to add more unreasonable items (well obviously the rhino isn't realistic!).

I dread the teenage years when I presume they will just want designer clothing and phones / gaming consoles etc.

I might start making my list soon....

RockyReef you can sponsor a rhino with WWF - they send information about your rhino, and it comes with a cuddly toy rhino. You also get a magazine every so often. My son had one and loved it.
WorriedMillie · 13/11/2021 07:54

DD (8) has asked for a tiger cub, but upon realising she can’t have a tiger cub, she’s asked for a toy one instead 😂
MIL has adopted a tiger for her through WWF, so she’ll love that, as she loves having a sponsored guide dog
She’s also asked for an art case from The works, with acrylic paint in. OH has upgraded that one a bit, as she does look after her things
I’ve also found her a lion onesie (she adores big cats)

Clammyclam · 13/11/2021 09:19

This is brilliant

The quick family game is sweet, and something I can relate to at 32!

My parents play games every single night. I'm competitive and have ADHD, one or two in a week is the max for me!

Shutupyoutart · 13/11/2021 12:57

That's so cute I love how specific he is being about the size of the bear! And the 'real' diamond chain🤣my lady has asked for , art stuff , oodie, snuggy, tye dye kit, clothes and a another dog 🤣

RedStef1983 · 13/11/2021 14:51

I stand by the mantra “you don’t ask, you don’t get”

pollymere · 13/11/2021 15:15

Aw. It's sweet that they get that things cost money. They do have expensive taste though! You could look in charity shops for Hugo Boss shirt as they're full of barely worn designer shirts. Or try discount villages.

Mine writes lists like this too. They finally got the Switch from the "too expensive but would be awesome" part of their list. My biggest problem with their lists is items that possibly don't exist in this dimension. These have included: A pet marshmallow (think Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2), a wishing square, the album of a cartoon character in a band (I actually found this one but it was on the list as possibly not existing)...

pollymere · 13/11/2021 15:18

For ADHD etc, I would highly recommend Exploding Kittens as a great game. Or impossible jigsaw puzzles. Also Forks in the Timeline is excellent if you can find it (I originally thought I'd been scammed but their distribution was scamming the company that makes the game. The CEO is amazing so don't be put off by their not-great website).

flyingspaghettimonster · 13/11/2021 16:27

My 12 year old son asked for a giant teddy. They watch you tube videos where people climb inside and then scare people. Not the 340cm one though - good grief how big is their bedroom? My sons one is 6ft and takes up half fis bed 😂

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 13/11/2021 23:07

My 5 year old has asked for a tablet and a phone.......honestly, the modern child!!!

Insidelaurashead · 14/11/2021 01:06

@IncyWincyGrownUp

9 has a list going on, using the whiteboard. Fluffy socks have been crossed out as his older sibling donated a pair to the cause, but neatly crossed out because more are always necessary:o
Wonzies Grin love the phonetic spelling
backtolifebacktoreality · 14/11/2021 15:07

My 14 year old asked for Chanel No 5.

I actually bought if for her so that she realised if she wanted expensive perfume then she'd get less other gifts!

So has my stepdaughter! A MacBook Pro and top of the range iPhone 13! DH and I are ready to ban her from YouTube lol! Basically everything on her list this year is from some 'influencer' she watches lol!!

Last year it was a new Xbox AND PS5, hoverboard, new bike, expensive make up (hourglass(?)) and a Gucci belt!

She got the bike lol! Her mum got the same list too and I think she basically told her that money doesn't grow on trees!

Stepdaughter was 11 at the time!

Biddie191 · 15/11/2021 09:47

idontlikealdi Just buy the horse Wink Sounds remarkably similar to my daughter's lists, often interspersed with links to nice horses for sale, often with comments and notes.

Biddie191 · 15/11/2021 09:55

NotMyCat I asked for nothing except for a horse for every single birthday and Christmas. Refused to put anything else on the list
Christmas, I was 11, and I had to go take a present to the yard, sulking as my loan horse had been sold
Loan horse comes out with a giant red bow. I don't think I was capable of speech grin

Oh wow, that must have been amazing - but also impossible to ever better!

helpIhateclothesshopping · 15/11/2021 11:37

In our house that would be considered a list of "ideas or inspiration " nothing more and I would remind them that they won't be getting everything (possibly anything) from the list. In many ways it's better than "I don't know" as an answer to "what do you want?" I think I might discuss the practicality of a 340cm Teddy in a terraced house too.

momtoboys · 15/11/2021 19:05

My niece once gave my sister a list that was 10 pages long and the final entry was "and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of surprises!". LOL!

SolasAnla · 15/11/2021 20:21

Why totally pratical as 🐻teddy would do nicely as a spare mattress 😀
