TRIGGER WARNING!!

Wtf have I just seen on Twitter?! I won't post a link, but you can Google it if you actually want to, although I should say it made me weep with rage!

Some absolutely vile excuse for a human being decided to kick and punch a horse for wandering off. It's shocking.

My blood is boiling! How dare they?! What will happen to them? Please someone tell me they will be at the very least, banned from ever owning an animal of any kind ever again.

What is the matter with people? Seriously need my faith restoring in humanity today.

Angry Angry

If they do that in public I can only imagine what happens at home
I hope the horse is taken away from them

Saw this earlier this morning on the news.

Vile excuse for a human being. Poor poor horse 😢

spiderlight · 08/11/2021 10:38

I saw this on the news and it has upset me so much. I loathe hunting anyway, but this was just inexcusable. Poor horse :( I really hope the person is identified and prosecuted, and banned from riding with the hunt for life.

Clawdy · 08/11/2021 11:02

Somebody will recognise her, surely. Or will have watched it. Obviously someone was filming it.

brokenbiscuitsx · 08/11/2021 11:05

I’m so glad it’s made it to the news I was so angry last night when I saw it I’ve been thinking all night about it! The poor poor horse, people should be put in prison for hurting animals (hurting anything vulnerable like animals, children, old people)

Frenchie4 · 08/11/2021 11:05

It's a clear video. Someone must know who they are.

The consequences for animal cruelty are still absolutely pathetic - I was going to say in this country, but it's a global issue.

These are living beings with real feelings, real emotions. They feel fear, they feel pain, physical and metal. We are their only voice and we let them down time and time again.

Until laws change to actually deter these scum bags from using their positions of power to abuse these defenseless creatures, this will keep happening.

Hear hear OP!

Most killers start by hurting animals. I’m not saying all people that hurt animals kill but most killers have hurt animals.

ancientgran · 08/11/2021 11:08

On the news this morning they were appealing for people who witnessed this to come forward, I assume to identify her? I think the main punishment for her is going to be being judged and ostracised by people in her social circle and community.

Why did no one interveve, or did they and i didn't see it.

Frenchie4 · 08/11/2021 11:12

@brokenbiscuitsx, I agree. That's usually where it starts.

@ancientgran, I'm not sure, but I bloody would have!

Shes part of the Cottesmore Hunt ( though they're denying it ) and I suspect this sort of thing is far more common in these circles than youd think ...it will probably be brushed aside as "Arabella having one of her moments..but horses must learn to behave "..cruelty and rough treatment are common in racing and hunting circles , they just dont normally get filmed .

Horriblewoman · 08/11/2021 11:18

I can't believe no one stepped in, poor poor horse. It's shocking how that was her reaction.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 08/11/2021 11:18

The person who took the video and subsequently posted it must know the location and should reveal where it is.

It’s not surprising really that someone involved in a hunt is cruel to animals. Glad someone filmed it but awful no one challenged her.

@OhGiveUp, I wish I hadn't seen it, which is why I didn't post a fast track link, as it's too easy to click and view without really knowing what you're about to see.

Casual cruelty like this is very common in the horse world. An awful lot of horsey people will be thinking no big deal, at least to the slapping (maybe not the kicking) - it's one of the reasons I don't ride at the moment as its hard to find a yard where horses wouldn't get a smack for bad behaviour. Hit with the lead rope if they barge you, slap across the nose if they bite.

I'm in no way condoning it but this is not unusual behaviour in the horse world

SpeedRunParent · 08/11/2021 12:16

@SexyNeckbeard
I just want to add that, although I am sad to say that SexyNeckBeard is right, it is in no way standard in the horse world to be so abusive. We wouldn't dream of treating our horses badly and not would any of the horsey people I know..

Frenchie4 · 08/11/2021 12:22

@SexyNeckbeard, well this needs to be continually called out and changed doesn't it? I don't for a second think that you are condoning it btw, but how many sections of society continue to get away with appalling behaviour, because "it's just what happens" ?

OP posts:
SexyNeckbeard · 08/11/2021 12:36

I do - I take my money elsewhere and tell them why, but its depressingly widespread. Mostly I've seen it at riding schools as I don't own my own horse. Most of the time nobody takes the time and care to teach riding school horses manners properly - they're handled and ridden by lots of different people and so if they step out of line they're slapped back in (metaphorically speaking) instead of being taught the right way to behave. How to stand, how to walk nicely beside someone - if they push ahead a sharp yank on their lead rope or bridle is the punishment.

Like I say - this mistreatment is why I don't ride right now - I need to find a decent riding school to start again at

Evelyn52 · 08/11/2021 12:48

Well the car license plate was visible so it won't be long before she's found. I'm sure I saw on twitter last night she'd been identified

Panicmode1 · 08/11/2021 12:50

I can't understand why she hasn't been identified. The numberplate of the trailer is clearly visible and two members of hunt staff ho were there, were identified on twitter so they must know who she is.

As a lifelong horse lover, it makes me so cross to see any abuse of them.

DaisyNGO · 08/11/2021 12:53

I was silly enough to see that clip when my brain wasn't in gear this morning.

I am sure she will be found any minute now. Don't seek it out if you are easily upset - I'm probably overly upset by it but it gave me mega rage.

I have been in the horse world for 30 years. On a few different yards, and competed at local and county level.

I wouldn't say it is common behaviour at all tbh, it does happen and there are bad owners and yards but it's not common ime. Tbh, most leisure owners aren't firm enough and don't correct rude manners, barging, nipping etc which leads to half a ton of horse thinking it can do what it wants. And by correcting I don't mean smacking or punching and certainly not kicking.

What you may see at a riding school with often unmotivated, poorly paid and poorly trained staff isn't representative of the horse world overall. Certainly on my current yard, someone behaving in that way would have a massive bollocking from the yard owner.

SoftSheen · 08/11/2021 12:57

I haven't seen the video but it is not normal to kick horses, in hunting circles or otherwise. I'm not pro-hunting but most horse owners would not treat the animals like this.

slap across the nose if they bite Yes, this would be more common, and though I wouldn't do it myself, it's somewhat analogous to what a horse would do if bitten by another horse (retaliate by biting back). Kicking a horse for wandering off has no justification whatsoever.
