TRIGGER WARNING!!

Wtf have I just seen on Twitter?! I won't post a link, but you can Google it if you actually want to, although I should say it made me weep with rage!

Some absolutely vile excuse for a human being decided to kick and punch a horse for wandering off. It's shocking.

My blood is boiling! How dare they?! What will happen to them? Please someone tell me they will be at the very least, banned from ever owning an animal of any kind ever again.

What is the matter with people? Seriously need my faith restoring in humanity today.

@SexyNeckbeard

Casual cruelty like this is very common in the horse world. An awful lot of horsey people will be thinking no big deal, at least to the slapping (maybe not the kicking) - it's one of the reasons I don't ride at the moment as its hard to find a yard where horses wouldn't get a smack for bad behaviour. Hit with the lead rope if they barge you, slap across the nose if they bite.

I'm in no way condoning it but this is not unusual behaviour in the horse world

I've had horses all my life and hunted when younger and I have literally never, ever seen anyone behaving like she did. The worst thing I have seen was a teenage girl smack her horse over 20 times when it refused a water jump eventing - I was fence judging and reported her and she was immediately disqualified for excessive use of the whip.

She deserves to be punished for her behaviour but it is in no way common.

treguffin · 08/11/2021 14:44

How to stand, how to walk nicely beside someone - if they push ahead a sharp yank on their lead rope or bridle is the punishment

are you saying that is cruel? That's a pretty standard way to treat a horse that pushes ahead (which can be dangerous)

Shmithecat2 · 08/11/2021 14:56

I've seen the video - that poor pony. No one was holding its lead rope, and all it did was walk back to her, ears forward and she does that to it Sad.

What a POS. I'd do the same to her. Let's hope the RSPCA aren't as ineffective as usual on this. She needs a lifetime ban from owing any animal ever again. I'd not be happy if my child was in her class at school either.

Unfortunately as well as what appears to be the correct person being identified on Twitter, someone else has been as well - the primary school teacher is not the correct one (it's clear from the photos that it's someone else)

ODFOgrinch · 08/11/2021 16:14

The first name released was definitely incorrect. I'd take the second one with a pinch of salt too.
The authorities and the RSPCA know who it is and will have to decide how to act. The Hunting Office has said that this person is not a member of one of their associations which is interesting if it is a regular to the hunt. I suspect more information will become available in due course.

Tugging the horse back or applying pressure to slow it down is not cruel. A sharp yank downwards that makes the horse throw its head up in alarm to punish it is more what I meant. It doesn't hurt the horse long term but it's unnecessary and inflicts pain in the moment. I've been riding for over 20 years in a lot of different riding schools (because circumstances don't allow me to have my own) and I've witnessed a lot of harsh handling from grooms and yard owners.

Obviously I'm not thick horses are big powerful animals and can't be allowed to get the upper hand but there are ways of handling them that don't involve inflicting pain to get it to do what you want

Ludo19 · 08/11/2021 17:50

RSPCA will do feck all as per usual.

ginandbearit · 08/11/2021 18:40

Shes been named and is a primary school teacher, according to Hunting Leaks ..I wont name here here but it looks very likely and shes removed all details from sm as has pony club she involved in .

AmyDudley · 08/11/2021 18:59

I just watched the video Sad That poor horse, the woman looked deranged - who the hell behaves like that, why would anyone keep animals and then abuse them ? - it is completely beyond my understanding. I hoped she is prevented from ever keeping any animal again (actually I hope she is jailed) but it won't happen.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 08/11/2021 19:14

what made the person start to video in the first place?

Shmithecat2 · 08/11/2021 19:16

It was Hunt Sabs.

it was the hunt sabs
EcoCustard · 08/11/2021 19:55

I hope those appalled by the cruelty to the horse share the same sympathies for the animals harmed in ‘trail hunting’ which I believe this individual was part of, hence the hunt saboteurs being present.

Of course. It’s not surprising too that animal abuse is rife in their ‘culture’
CovidCorvid · 08/11/2021 20:17

I doubt anything will be done. Cottesmore hunt illegally chase and kill foxes and nothing gets done.

CovidCorvid · 08/11/2021 20:23

Cottesmore hunt staff are also known for physically assaulting hunt sabs. Lots of video evidence of hunt staff threatening sabs, admitting to killing foxes, etc.

We live very near to the Cottesmore Hunt and have had a run in with them before. They’re utter bastards and don’t care about their animals.

One Saturday morning we were traveling from our village to the nearest town when the whole pack of hounds ran out from the hedge of the field on the opposite side of the road. A couple hit the side of our car and two went under the wheels. The rest made it to the fields. Fortunately none of them were hurt, however when we stopped the car the huntsmen were abusive and were screaming and shouting at DH. I was sitting in the car shaking because the noise was awful.

Coincidentally the dog warden happened to be following us, so he stopped and told the huntsmen that they should have been more careful and they should look after their dogs better near main roads. They didn’t take too kindly to that so they rode off with a lot of swearing.

We went to the local police station to report we’d hit the dogs but the police couldn’t have been less interested. They said there’s different laws for packs of hounds so they’d done nothing wrong.

I bet Leicestershire and Rutland police know where that woman lives. I’ve got a good idea just from living locally. It’s if they can be bothered or not

WonderfulYou · 08/11/2021 21:21

I couldn’t bring myself to watch the video as I accidentally watched a video of dogs being killed (not sure if it’s the same group) and it’s stayed with me for months.

The still image I did see had other people around her which makes it even more despicable if they saw what she was doing.
I’m just do glad someone filmed and posted it.

You’re the second person I know of who’s hit Cottesmore hunt hounds. The other incident ten hounds were killed. They frequently exercise them by taking 30 dogs at a time out on the public highway with one person on a quad bike whipping them along….then seem surprised when a car comes round a bend and takes them out! And then keep doing it! Arseholes!
CovidCorvid · 08/11/2021 21:27

Also @TheFairyCaravan incidents such as yours prove they’re not trail hunting like they often claim…..because why would they lay a fake scent trail across a road?
