If you were to choose a wedding dress now…

What would you go for? Something classic? Something a bit more alternative? White? Ivory? Black?!
I’m not getting married, just thinking for some reason about wedding dresses Grin
Wondering about what I’d choose if I had to.
If you got married would you still pick the same dress?

Oh come on, indulge my lazy Saturday morning on the sofa Grin

I would go for something even more flamboyant and expensive than I did! I might even have indulged in having two wedding dresses, which I considered at the time but then decided against it (one for ceremony, one for the evening!)

BogRollBOGOF · 06/11/2021 10:43

I still love my dress. It was from the era of strapless being about the only option but I really loved it and it worked for me. I might go for something broadly similar but with shoulders, but don't lust over anything wildly different in a wish I could have worn that way.

I wouldn't spend £3500 on a designed and made to measure dress for a day again. Id buy something off the rack from one of the high St places like Whistles and have it tailored.

I wouldn't spend £300 on silk shoes to match. I'd wear something from the high St.

Chippymunks · 06/11/2021 10:46

I loved my dress, it was one of the first strapless ones as 25 years ago. I’d pick it again.

MeredithMae · 06/11/2021 10:48

I got married six years ago (so not that long) but I loved my dress and would definitely get it again. However I'd get it altered better so it didn't cut into my armpits, my Dad had to race to Boots to get plasters as I was bleeding all over it Blush

I’d probably wear Billy Smarts tent, not the size 6 wedding dress. I bought it in the January sale for £70 it wasn’t the one I wanted which was pronuptia for £500.

NadiaVulvokov · 06/11/2021 10:53

I’d stick to my original choice, which was a long dusky lilac draped silk number, rather the corded lace shift dress I was kind of nudged into.

Don’t get me wrong, I liked the dress I ended up wearing, but I wish I’d gone with my gut.

GoGoGretaDoll · 06/11/2021 11:04

I loved my dress but agree with the pp who said if I was doing it again, I'd go high street and get it tailored. I would probably spend more on shoes - going by the old stereotype that the more expensive the heel, the more comfortable it actually is. I didn't spend a huge amount on shoes but they didn't spend very long on my feet!

What I would do differently is my bra - I was fitted as part of the wedding dress fitting in-store and either she hashed it up or I put weight on or something, but it was so tight. By the time I got to the hotel I was screaming for DH to get it off me. He thought his luck was in. It was not.

TheChosenTwo · 06/11/2021 11:05

Bonus points for @MeredithMae for the included photo, looks beautifully elegant! Shame about the pain and blood Shock but it’s a lovely timeless look ❤️
Glad to hear some of you would have stuck with your original choices too.
I couldn’t go strapless, im really self conscious about my upper arms, a friend got married and wore a sleeveless dress that had a sort of high neck and shirt collar (I’m not great at descriptions!) and it was stunning!
@actiongirl1978 what did you do with it after?

RedCarsGoFaster · 06/11/2021 11:05

I'd pick the same style, but would have a lace up corset back to nip me in more. I had a full on Princess dress with underskirt etc 😁

www.wed2b.com/divine mind looked WAY poofier

TheChosenTwo · 06/11/2021 11:07

I also love your bouquet @MeredithMae ! Is it a burgundy colour? 💐

I'd go for a 50s tea dress.

Lampzade · 06/11/2021 11:08

The same dress I wore in my wedding day.
Long sleeved, a line , sweetheart neckline.
When I got married it was near enough impossible to get a wedding dress with sleeves. Most dresses were strapless which doesn’t suit me.
However, there are more sleeved dresses and they just look more classy and timeless

Wishineverchangedmyname · 06/11/2021 11:09

I'd go more flamboyant and with a different groom!

SirSamuelVimes · 06/11/2021 11:10

I loved my dress but I would probably go for something more elegant if I was buying one now. Mine was champagne, strapless with a very floaty chiffon type material skirt. Very floofly Grin.

If I was getting one now I'd want something like these, I think. Full skirt, satin, some kind of sleeve/ something on the shoulders. But I'd also need not to have the wedding in the height of summer, as I think these work better for a autumn or winter wedding.

I loved my dress and if I had the same figure I'd definitely wear it again! It was quite glam but not OTT. If I had to buy one as I am now though, I'd go for something simple and A-line and cheaper.

Chippymunks · 06/11/2021 11:16

I forgot to add my dress was made of ivory dupion silk and I managed to buy some identical material and made a sort of wrap thing that looked beautiful. My dress was actually from the evening department of a large London store. I found the dress and then it just so happened a personal shopper was available who rushed around the store picking out the perfect underwear and matching shoes etc. I only bought my dress about 6 weeks before my wedding because I was busy doing my finals and buying a house.
Shame I could fit about one of my legs in the dress now!

LawnFever · 06/11/2021 11:16

I’d go for something similar, still go high street but hopefully I’d have more choice.

When I got married 10 years ago strapless was still the main trend and I got so irritated & bored of bridal shops trying to convince me it was a style that suited everyone when it just wasn’t for me and really it was just the only style they had to try and sell me!

Which is why I ended up with a great dress from the high street instead.

I think it’s great now that there seems to be so many more options available 😊

SirSamuelVimes · 06/11/2021 11:16

This was my dress. Still love it but it was of its time, I think.

There are so few wedding dresses I have seen that I like. I absolutely hate the boob tube/ strapless ones. Even some I initially liked like Kate Middleton , I then think again and didn't like it.

MeredithMae · 06/11/2021 11:17

Yep, burgundy paper flowers

Allsorts1 · 06/11/2021 11:17

My original one was couture and very detailed - next time around I want to go for something sleek, plain and chic. But it’s 10 years since first (failed) marriage! I feel like no lace is very trendy now.

Crunchymum · 06/11/2021 11:18

Not married (or even engaged) and I'd need to lose half my body weight but I'd go for something like this type of dress.

I have never been married so haven't had to choose anything.
