If you were to choose a wedding dress now…

What would you go for? Something classic? Something a bit more alternative? White? Ivory? Black?!
I’m not getting married, just thinking for some reason about wedding dresses Grin
Wondering about what I’d choose if I had to.
If you got married would you still pick the same dress?

I was 32 when I got married 11 years ago, but I presumed OP meant “if you could do the original day over again”.

BurntTheFuckOut · 06/11/2021 18:02

I’ve cropped the face out on the off chance any of my friends see this Grin This is a photo of my Great Grandmas bridal outfit. I found a dress and shoes as close to this as possible when I got married.

I’m now divorced, cannot stomach the thought of living with a man again, but I have a few friends who work in the wedding industry and I really enjoy seeing bridal dresses.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

I'm amazed to see so many people still saying they'd go down the full white/ivory route. Presumably if you were choosing now it would be a second or even third marriage and you're quite a lot older than the first time around?
Well I’m only 29, and still married, and was thinking more along the lines of if I was getting married now, in a hypothetical alternate life.

I'd go for a slate blue velvet dress in a medieval style with long pointy sleeves. Flowers in my hair and a wild flower bouquet.

Fifthtimelucky · 06/11/2021 18:09

I loved my dress and still do, but given that it was 30 years ago and I'm now 60 (and quite a bit bigger) I wouldn't go for the same again as it would look ridiculous!

If I was the same age and size as I was then, I wouldn't change much.

Bigfathairyones · 06/11/2021 18:10

I would have the white dinner suit from Liberty (much like Angie's one) that I wanted in the first place and thought I'd find something better. I didn't, didn't go back to London and have regretted it ever since.

I’d definitely pick something different now Remus. I’d look ridiculous in flounces. I’d like something in a pale blue, similar to the Westwood but plain and it would have to hide my knees.

zukiecat · 06/11/2021 18:19

My wedding dress was pale pink, with pearls sewn on the bodice, it had fabric flowers on the sleeves and on the bow that draped down the back.

Although I'm very happily divorced, I loved my dress, and still do,

If I was the same age as 29 years ago and choosing a wedding dress, I'd have this, it's so beautiful

I am afraid I can't join on the dress front, however, I can introduce the world of Lebanese Weddings. For ridiculously huge, OTT dresses and weddings, that's the account/hash tag you need on Insta... !

I might marry DP at some point. We've only been together nearly 30 years! Grin

Is that an Ian Stuart dress?[/quote]
No, I don't think so, but I've no idea who it is! Pretty sure it wasn't a male designer though.

Europilgrim · 06/11/2021 19:43

I liked my dress but I was 5 months pregnant which influenced my choice! If I could choose again, I would choose a non-maternity style!

BestIsWest · 06/11/2021 19:46

Never a better excuse to buy a Westwood dress Remus.

RestingStitchFace · 06/11/2021 20:03

I'd go for something that covered my shoulders. Went with spaghetti straps on the day but my shoulders are not my best feature.

Otherwise I'd probably still choose something very similar - empire line, pearl beading chiffon. Very floaty and simple. I would go for a veil though - something I opted not to do originally.

Tempting.

I got married in 2000 and wore an ivory meringue. If I was choosing a dress now, I'd go for something like this.

thelegohooverer · 06/11/2021 20:36

I loved mine and I’d wear it again but I’d need to let it out.

WickedWitchOfTheTrent · 06/11/2021 20:43

The gold dress that Kate wore to the bond premier. I'd also need the body to go with it tho. Not sure it would look as good on a 50 yr old 5'3" size 16 lady Grin

TheChosenTwo · 06/11/2021 21:18

Haha @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I refer to dh as dh on here but he’s actually still my boyfriend of 20 years! Dp can be confused as parents, dbf best friend etc so for ease abs clarification I just call him dh. We have been engaged for 17 years this year with no intention to marry whatsoever Grin

And yes I was thinking more that if people were marrying for the first time but in 2021 then which dress would they choose, I wasn’t suggesting that anyone needed to think of a new partner Grin
But also, I wouldn’t think anything of a bride wearing a white/ivory dress for a second wedding, plenty of grooms wear a dark coloured suit for a second wedding!!

I was 33 weeks pregnant on my wedding day so just went for an empire style dress which was a bridesmaid dress in ivory.

Doing it again I would probably just wear a simple dress with wild flowers if possible. And pumps! They were comfy. Would wear them again 😂

Dazedandconfused28 · 06/11/2021 22:03

I had a lace pronovias dress, with an illusion back - it was lovely, but I wish I'd been more outspoken at the fitting. If I were to do it again, I think I'd go for something like this

TheChosenTwo · 06/11/2021 22:38

@Dazedandconfused28 that’s really pretty and quite different. Bold and makes a statement while still holding on to what I have in my head as ‘a wedding dress’.

I still like mine, it was 7 years ago so not that long. I’d probably go similar I think.
We had no guests and it was a lovely day. Dress was the most expensive bit (but not loads, about £1k with alterations).

No where near a position to be married . But if I was it would have to be something like these dresses stolen from Pinterest

@Kayjay2018

I got married 3 years ago but had seen this dress years prior and always loved it. Only a high street one, and bhs at that, they had gone out of business by the time I was looking but found a brand new unworn one on eBay for £65 so a bargain (this isn't me wearing it)
I bought that dress in 2014 for £85 new. Loved it and it was fab quality for the price.

I didn't get married though and last time I saw it was in a bin bag in my parents shed Sad. It's long gone now.

Wish I had saved it as I could do without right now. Grin
