If you were to choose a wedding dress now…

What would you go for? Something classic? Something a bit more alternative? White? Ivory? Black?!
I’m not getting married, just thinking for some reason about wedding dresses Grin
Wondering about what I’d choose if I had to.
If you got married would you still pick the same dress?

I've been married twice and never had a traditional wedding dress.

I'd go for a nice dress I could wear again, something like this www.nancymac.co.uk/collections/velvet-dresses/products/sable-midi-dress-in-rosewood-silk-velvet

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/11/2021 16:58

That's odd @DownWhichOfLate
The first should have been www.viviennewestwood.com/en/women/clothing/dresses/cartie-dress-boucher-boucher-16010004J0004O301.html

Yeah, I was happy with my outfit. It was a mid-calf blue bridesmaid dress and I had a fascinator and shoes made to match. Absolutely 0 regrets about not going for something big and white, because I wore something because it was 'me', not because it was 'bride'. I totally get 'bride' works great on most women and it's what they genuinely want, which is lovely, but would not have worked for me.

Ooh, that’s nice @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie. I don’t suppose it’s really something you could buy and wear for another occasion. Unless you are quite well off!

Teddansononmyown · 06/11/2021 17:09

I've not long bought my wedding dress. Second time around, very casual and mainly just a party so I love it.
I was talked into a full length, formal gown at my first wedding. Very simple but I wish I'd gone with my gut and gone short as long dresses just aren't me.
Can't wait to wear it (and I got it on sale for £60!)

Aww @TheChosenTwo Thanks for starting this thread, now I no longer feel alone in thinking up wedding plans & dresses even though I’ve been married a couple years now.

I loved my dress, it’s a comfy lace halter from a high street store I’d happily wear again and again but there were other styles I would have loved which I’m thinking up for our renewal of vows and anniversary celebrations.
I believe strongly in celebrating your marriage as much as you like Grin

  1. Cosy winter wedding with fur, yes yes
  2. Long flowing dress with a big bow at the back
  3. A modest style with sleeves
  4. Off shoulder or something like Nana Flour’s dress (in picture)

I didn't buy the one I wanted. But too expensive although it would have been fine and people talked me put of it. It had a massive skirt with roses in. I'll never get over the one that got away.

I liked my actual dress but lost weight at the 11 3/4th hour and it was a bit big so didn't fit the way I wanted and they didn't do alterations the way I wanted but I didn't know how to speak up.

I love you missed-opportunity dress

Sadly not that well off!

This is so cute. I love it.

@SirSamuelVimes
Is that an Ian Stuart dress?

Ugh autocorrect - I meant Nina Flohr

I think I’d like a dress with a cape too.

ArtfulScreamer · 06/11/2021 17:29

I'd happily pick my dess again I loved it then and I still love it now.

I wore this dress - in a honey colour and without the jacket (regret that now) and different headgear.

It was an absolutely beautiful dress in reality but the alterations were dreadful and it kept falling down (at the end of the night I jumped up and down and it literally fell off (I was alone with DH thankfully)

Blue4YOU · 06/11/2021 17:30

I’d pick a different one now - like Ian Stuart’s Premier. I was just hung up on his Babette (that is like a work of art etc)

EdithGrantham · 06/11/2021 17:31

I loved my dress and possibly would choose it again but wish I'd tried on more different styles, I pretty much had my heart set on a particular silhouette and didn't take the opportunity to have fun trying on loads of different dresses.

Nc4post99 · 06/11/2021 17:40

I loved my dress, still do, long sleeve lace- classic timeless. I’d buy the same again. Shoes on the other hand, I’d get some Charlotte Webster shoes, the ones with the butterflies on the heel ❤️

Kayjay2018 · 06/11/2021 17:41

I got married 3 years ago but had seen this dress years prior and always loved it. Only a high street one, and bhs at that, they had gone out of business by the time I was looking but found a brand new unworn one on eBay for £65 so a bargain (this isn't me wearing it)

I'd go for something simple but really elegant. Something like this

If you were to choose a wedding dress now…
Ghoulette · 06/11/2021 17:50

Black.

I am goth and It's way more true to my style. After becoming a parent during my first marriage I completely lost any sense of myself, believing I had to 'tone down' and dress more like a Mum (and my look wasn't all that extreme anyway).

Of course, that's a load of bollocks and I am now happily back to my old self. I'd also have a more alternative themed wedding although my first dress and theme was very lovely. Just not very Me!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/11/2021 17:52

I'm amazed to see so many people still saying they'd go down the full white/ivory route. Presumably if you were choosing now it would be a second or even third marriage and you're quite a lot older than the first time around?

MrsBerthaRochester · 06/11/2021 17:53

My dress was a two piece in pale pink. Satin corset style top and tulle skirt with tiny seed pearls. I still love it even though was shit marriage.
If I was to remarry(never) would wear a more fitted dress in red.

I think people are going for what they’d buy for a first wedding rather than something for after divorcing their spouse!

It would be my second and I’d still go for a white dress (probably) but it would definitely not be a traditional dress.

My first was a 40s style dress. I was 25 then, I’m 35 now.

Baxdream · 06/11/2021 17:54

I'm happily married and not totally past it quite yet so I'm just looking at pretty dresses 😂

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 06/11/2021 17:56

I only got married in September so wouldn't change my dress Grin. Everyone said I picked the perfect one for my shape. However I wish I'd lost a few pounds first
