If you were to choose a wedding dress now…

What would you go for? Something classic? Something a bit more alternative? White? Ivory? Black?!
I’m not getting married, just thinking for some reason about wedding dresses Grin
Wondering about what I’d choose if I had to.
If you got married would you still pick the same dress?

I would choose something quite boho, embroidery, ivory with dried flowers for both bouquet and headpiece.

Quite different to the quite full with large sleeves peach raw silk one I wore, but still had dried flowers. Quite different all those years ago.

I would elope. Like being married, wedding was fun, but currently at the stage of my life (mid thirties with two primary aged kids) I just see so many more useful and enjoyable ways to spend money. Probably being a grinch though!

If it was all free though... I think I'd like something with a bit of colour. A few weeks before I got married (in a pretty traditional white dress with sparkly bits and massive skirt) i had a dream i got married in a rainbow coloured dress, knee length that flared out as you danced. But I don't think I'm brave enough for that, I would resemble Upsy Daisy.

...think I watch too many 'Say yes to the dress' as well!

We sorted the loft in February and I had a look at my dress from 1988 for the 1st time in years. Like a PP described her dress, it was very much of it's time, but I still love it.
It would have been out of my price range but it was half price in the January sale because it was from the previous Berkatex season so it felt meant to be.

Love that dress MusicTeacherSussex.

I’d probably have long sleeves, fitted, elegant.

Pheebs2021 · 06/11/2021 13:33

I would spend my entire budget on my dress if I was to do it again, I was younger and earning less and struggled to justify an expensive dress so I only spent a limited amount of my dress budget and I think you can tell.

pointythings · 06/11/2021 13:33

I still love mine - sleeveless, fitted bodice with a little beading, big full skirt in a warm shade of ivory, with a jacket to go over the top of it in slightly darker colour, again with a little beading. Think Edwardian riding dress. It was definitely a bit of an oddball dress, hence it being half price in the sale.

I could definitely still get away with that style, but I'd need to do something with my hair. Fortunately I have zero plans to marry again, I love being single.

OlafLovesAnna · 06/11/2021 13:39

My dress was a plain satin strapless corset top and long skirt with puddle train plus my mother's cathedral length lace veil. I totally loved it and the dress was about £150 in the Monsoon sale.

If we were doing it again I'd maybe have gone for something shorter (like the pic below) ... but then I wouldn't have been able to wear the veil, so all in all I probably wouldn't change my choice all that much.

I'd only get half of me in the dress these days!

I was skint lay the time but cobbled this together. I loved it in the end, especially the head dress and veil!

If I was to go again now, I would have a simpler (cheaper) dress but still do the head dress and veil!!!!

I loved my wedding dress - full length sequinned with a small fishtail skirt but very simple shape. The pic isn’t me but it was this Adriana Papell one from John Lewis off the shelf as I was just passing through the shop, saw it and had to by it! I still try it on once a year just to swish about (and check it still fits!)

I had one of those last minute register office weddings with 6 guests. I wore a red silk dress.
I detest big weddings and traditional wedding dresses so if I was doing it again I would choose red again but something more extravagent.

I wore this for my summer 2021 wedding and loved it.

ChangeAndHelp · 06/11/2021 14:11

I wouldn’t look twice at the eye watering Pronovia dress I ended up getting - lovely as it was.

I would have spent half, if not less on a flowery, designer dress with Pockets, which I could wear again and again and again.

Our reception and venue were lovely and I would not have changed anything.

BestIsWest · 06/11/2021 14:59

@latedecember1963 yes! That’s almost identical to mine, down to the seed pearls at the waist. I think mine had a bit of lace at the bottom. I got married in 1987. I still love it too.

latedecember1963 · 06/11/2021 15:32

BestisWest; wedding dress twins! 😄
Funnily enough when I showed the photos to a couple of my colleagues young enough to be my daughters they said flouncy elements are creeping back into wedding dresses again.

TheChosenTwo · 06/11/2021 16:32

Ooh I woke up from a nap to see all these lovely dresses Grin
Like the idea of going for something totally different like a jumpsuit.
I’m really not getting married, I was just having a little wonder this morning.
I don’t think I could spend as much as some have on here on a dress for a few hours but I love the drama of a big ol’ show stopping dress!

Would happily pick the same dress and same bloke all over again.

VerbenaGirl · 06/11/2021 16:37

I'd definitely have pockets. I love pockets!

HotChoc10 · 06/11/2021 16:37

I actually am looking for a wedding dress at the moment and I love this one from kamperett but it's about a grand and I can't justify it.

HotChoc10 · 06/11/2021 16:38

(with the slip it's about a grand anyway!)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/11/2021 16:41

This or this and I'd wear them everywhere after the event!

MintyCedric · 06/11/2021 16:45

If I ever remarry...I'm having this, and lovely floofy shrug if necessary Grin.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie - they seem to be the same to me?

MinnieMountain · 06/11/2021 16:49

Mine was a Grecian style with a diagonal strap and a small train. I loved it but it felt like a lot of money, which my dad kindly provided.

Otherwise I’d was going to get something from Monsoon.

MinnieMountain · 06/11/2021 16:50
