If you were to choose a wedding dress now…

What would you go for? Something classic? Something a bit more alternative? White? Ivory? Black?!
I’m not getting married, just thinking for some reason about wedding dresses Grin
Wondering about what I’d choose if I had to.
If you got married would you still pick the same dress?

Really lovely @Megan2018 and love the hair too, so elegant! Thanks for sharing Flowers
So many people would choose a classic ‘wedding dress’, I think I’m quite surprised as thought more would lean to an alternative ‘nothing at all like a wedding dress’ type of wedding dress for some reason!
My mum has been married three times Grin
First time in a classic 80’s wedding dress, second time in a black evening down and third time in navy and gold.
All looked lovely!
I think if I were to ever choose one I’d probably not choose white or anything light for the simple fact that I am THE MESSIEST eater and drinker! With a mouth as big as mine it’s surprising how often I miss it Confused

I’m fairly sure what prompted me thinking about this conundrum this morning was watching someone eating something really messy on Saturday kitchen or a similar programme and me then thinking about how I’d spill it all down me but it wouldn’t matter because who cares, I’m at home. But then what if I wasn’t at home? What if I were somewhere people could see me…
And my head went down a rabbit hole there and then!

I'd wear the one I got married in. As it stands I'd have to have it taken in slightly as I'm about a stone lighter than when I got married - that's certainly not always been the case in the 15 years since my wedding, though Grin.

It's a long-sleeved dress in raw ivory silk with silk embroidery. It wasn't the fashion when I got married and wouldn't be fashionable now but it suits me and I love it.

Good sentiment there @ArblemarchTFruitbat to choose what suits you and you feel good in and prioritise that over a trend.
Mind you, I’m the least fashionable person ever anyway and the dds (bloody think they’re the fashion police 🙄) were ribbing me the other night that I only ever wear the same style of things - I did reply that it was because I felt comfortable in it and I wasn’t changing what I wear because it’s not ‘stylish’ or ‘trendy’ at which point they both laughed at me!
I have no idea what ‘suits me’ other than if I feel good in it then it suits me. And I dress for myself!!

I got married this year at the age of 50, and indulged in a Prada midi dress.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/11/2021 10:35

Would love to see a pic @DuchessMinnie

Found it! www.viktor-rolf.com/content/images/VR_MARIAGE_FW22_by_Marijke_Aerden_LOOK_09_107_switch_C4_sRGB.jpg?mtime=20211006122807&focal=none
I was 5 months pregnant last time, but would totally renew my vows in this.

SirSamuelVimes · 07/11/2021 12:43

@VerbenaGirl

Wow. That is FAB.

I was married the day after the royal wedding (kate and Wills) It was such a nightmare finding anything remotely not white and strapless. I wore an antique silver and cream trumpet dress with beaded overlay and a chapel train. It cost over £1k 12 years ago and wasnt even silk. I loved it but the dress was really wearing my and not the other way round iygwim? Annoyingly 2 years later BHS did a rip off that ended up £150 in the sale.

If I had to choose again I would go for the antique look again and I loved the overlay so maybe that again but in an A line rather than trumpet. And it must have a built in corset as mine didnt. I would choose a well made silk dress over anything from china though.

I watch Say yes to the dress a lot so have kep up to date with the styles. I hate the deep V dresses around at the moment with the ugly tan coloured bit in the V. Not a fan of the illusion lace bits on back, shoulders and arms.

Totally with you on this. I do think that Say Yes to the Dress dresses are always pretty tacky though - I think in real life there's less of that. Hopefully!

SallyMcNally · 07/11/2021 18:34

In the process of choosing one now so this thread had been great Grin

I don't really know what I want except some sort of straps and a corset- I love all the 20s/30s style dresses but need to accept that they were not designed with my boobs and bum in mind!

TheChosenTwo · 07/11/2021 18:45

There’s just too much choice @SallyMcNally Grin
I wouldn’t really know where to start! When are you getting married? Have you tried anything on yet?

Badabingbadabum · 07/11/2021 18:50

I think I would go with the same again. It was one from monsoon with cap sleeves, empire cut and a little puddle train. Married ten years ago. If I would do something different it would be to find a better veil, something more showy

80sMum · 07/11/2021 18:53

I would have loved to try on several different dresses and be able to choose the one I liked best. What actually happened was that I hired my wedding dress and there was only one in my size, so I had no choice. It was OK, but not my sort of thing and I didn't particularly like it. Heyho, it did the job I guess.

KeflavikAirport · 07/11/2021 20:21

I would go and get the lovely Gok to sort me out 😍

CourgetteSeason · 07/11/2021 20:40

My dress was quite fitted / strapless. I love it but if I got married now I'd go for a different style. I love the look of Rosa Clara dresses, this one caught my eye www.rosaclara.es/en/rc/enigma/

PoshWatchShitShoes · 07/11/2021 20:52

I spent so much on my wedding dress. With hindsight, what a waste of money 😂 And our DCs are boys, so it's not like a DD will ever fancy trying it on for play or party. It's just getting discoloured in the fancy box.

Nowadays I'd buy a slinky sparkly evening dress instead of a structured wedding dress.

Actually I'm not sure I'd have the same wedding day!! We had a wonderful day and the most beautiful dinner. It's ages ago now and looking back at the (also ridiculously expensive) photos, I'm not even bothered by about 3/4s of the attendees 😆

We've both got dysfunctional families with step parents on both sides etc and they all hate each other, so sadly we didn't have the real option of a small immediate family wedding.

SallyMcNally · 08/11/2021 09:26

I know @TheChosenTwo it's all a bit overwhelming! I have tried anything yet. I just have a lot of pins on Pinterest!

The wedding is in august so I'm also worried about melting!

At the moment my favourite style is maybe something like this:

If you were to choose a wedding dress now…
SirSamuelVimes · 08/11/2021 09:36

@SallyMcNally I had a hot day for my wedding - get a dress that requires a hoop underskirt thingy. It was great! Everything is held away from you by the hoop so you are actually really cool.

That dress is lovely. But go try stuff on! You really don't know until you see yourself in it.

LadyOfMisrule · 08/11/2021 09:39

I'd wear exactly the same again, if I could get back to a size 8 instead of a size 20

I'd choose a different husband, though.

Mosaic123 · 08/11/2021 09:49

I'd hire something which would be beyond my budget to buy.

TheChosenTwo · 08/11/2021 10:17

@CourgetteSeason that is stunning!
Although I don’t like the big bow on the back, I’d want that to be detachable.

@SallyMcNally that’s so pretty, the detail in the neckline is lovely 😊
