Are you an entitled dickhead

Lol excuse the title but here goes... I work in a super market And I truly love the chat with all our loveky customers but one thing that makes me wanna stab people in the eye with a steak knife is when people literally hand you a big stinking, smelly bag and expect you to pack! Why the hell do people do this? Bring your own bag and pack it yourself. I'm not talking about elderly, disabled or parents with young kids that need a hand, I'm talking people in their 20s / 30s that are incapable of doing this basic task! We even have bags beside the till and many, many times people will ask "can I take a bag" then literally hand it to me to pack it whilst they dick about having a laugh with their mates. My absolute favourite is when full families come in with teenagers and insist on watching you pack, or worse start telling you how they want it packed into specific categories 🤬 whilst discussing the plans for the day 🤬🤬🤬🤬

If you're one of these people! Wake up

@wildcheesesteak

My local Morrisons and Sainsburys always ask me but I always say no.

I've only ever seen checkout staff packing for elderly customers.

Unless you genuinely need the help why the hell would you stand and watch someone else do it when they have another job to do?!

I think that what it's supposed to be used for but I guess with so many hidden disabilities they are told to ask everyone? We aren't told to ask people, it not in our policy, people just ask/ expect

I go to Asda, Lidl, Morrisons, and Aldi quite often. Also plenty of other shops and store in between.

I never, EVER see this happen.

JohnStonesMissus · 05/11/2021 22:27

@SnowWhitesSM

YABU - I specifically go to sainsburys as they pack your bags for you. I like having my bag packed for me, thats why I go there and not tescos.
My Sainsburys doesn't pack for you, hasn't done it for years.. I think you should do it yourself anyway.
me4real · 05/11/2021 22:27

Some of those people sound annoying but I am so slow at packing I really need someone to help me with it, or I just get anxious and/or hold up any queue. I consider it part of my disability so I will insist on asking for help packing now. It just makes it slower annd harder for everyone otherwise.

Only once years ago did I have a staff member in Sainsbury's refuse to pack anything except a couple of cleaning products.

I think shop workers in some places are far more helpful than they used to be and I really appreciate that.

LimitIsUp · 05/11/2021 22:28

At least they are not all using self checkout (thus putting you out of a job)?

BorderlineHappy · 05/11/2021 22:28

I worked in Tesco in Dublin for years.
My 🤢 is people taking money from their Bra/ shoe.

But most customers are wankers who love the power trip they think they have.

sarah13xx · 05/11/2021 22:30

That’s sooo cheeky 🙈 had no idea people did this. I’ve done a sponsored bag pack before and I remember how annoying it was even then when people would dictate how they wanted it packed 🙄 I’m not one of these people. I mean I don’t ram bread in the bottom of a bag but I’ve shoved everything else into bags for my whole life and have never got home to all my shopping ruined, stuff it in the bag and go home 🙄😂

Then you are in genuine need of some help, and I promise you I would gladly pack for you no problem! People like you aren't the issue, it's able bodied customers or others that treat people like me and other shop workers like dirt because we are beneath them. X

I’ve been asked in Tesco more than once if I’d like help packing my bags? Why do I look like I need help packing my bags? 🤔

The only supermarket I’ve been in that had specific bag packers waiting at the checkouts to help you was a large Chinese superstore (in the uk.)

I always pack my bag myself. I feel embarrassed letting someone else to do something that I can do myself.

dawnwalk · 05/11/2021 22:32

So I agree with you for big supermarkets but for express/local stores I do think it can speed things up if the cashiers pack.

They can swipe the average 10 items and just put in the bag in front straight away. Leaving the customer time to get out the loyalty card and money ready to pay and go.

The customer packing just means the 10 things get squashed to the side of the bag until the customer picked them up and moves them 10 cm into the bag. Then they are unprepared with the money at the end.

Timeisavirtue · 05/11/2021 22:32

I work in a clothes shop and once had a women who didn’t like how I was folding the clothes ( the right way down the already there creases from where it was folded before hung) so she undid it all and tried to tell me how to fold properly... I put her straight when she realised she’d then created more creases doing it her way... some people have no respect for retail staff. And the customer is mostly never right....

Dindundundundeeer · 05/11/2021 22:33

I always thought Sainsbury’s ask to assist those that can’t. Whilst I’m fit enough, I pack with pride Grin

TwinklyBranch · 05/11/2021 22:33

Sorry, but is that not part of your job to pack for people? Confused
That'd be like me moaning that not only do I have to read the emails I get, I also need to reply.
Anyway, I'm not an entitled dickhead because I use the self service tills and do my own packing.

Also licking their fingers before rifling through notes to hand to you, sneezing and handing you money, etc.

It’s fucking rank.

whysorude · 05/11/2021 22:36

Oh feck OP, I feel your pain. A regular in the supermarket I used to work in always had damp mouldy bags that I had to pack. He was v polite and mannerly but the bags were disgusting and I hated touching them.

One Christmas late opening had two grown women come to my til at 11.50pm (closed at midnight) with two full trollies and proceeded to stand back and chat to other while I had to pack the shopping. It took 30 fecking minutes. I was so tired at that point and they were just ignorant. I'm still indigent 10 years later. AngryGrin

I used to keep money in my bra. I can’t believe I used do to that. I am so sorry to all the shop workers who had to handle those notes. I removed the money before going into the shop though, I didn’t have a rummage around at the checkout in front of everyone.
lastrolo10 · 05/11/2021 22:38

I did not know this happened.
At my local supermarket they usually ask do you need help with your packing. Being able bodied and in my thirties, I smile and assume they are very polite and want to rightly so, watch out for people with hidden disabilities. I say no thank you and carry on with my day.

I had no idea people expect supermarket workers to pack their things. Even dealing with a screaming toddler and baby I wouldn’t have asked. I quickly shove stuff in bags and dash out.

If it’s not too revealing could you say which store you work for and which area.
I’m mortified people behave in this way.

Triffid1 · 05/11/2021 22:39

I have to admit, I might be totally missing the point here but.... CASHIERS WILL PACK FOR YOU?!

I can honestly say I have never seen that. In fact, while I am perfectly happy to pack my own stuff and it definitely makes things much faster, I have had the occasional situation where I get a bit annoyed because I can't pack because I'm still unloading my trolley and if the cashier did just a tiny bit of packing for me, I could finish unloading and come take over.

But I'm still struggling with the concept that you can actually do that - hand the cashier your bag and get them to do it. I wouldn't want to do it but I'm now going to be watching more carefully to see who all these entitled feckers are.

whysorude · 05/11/2021 22:39

@BorderlineHappy I've had to handle warm damp money from the bra too.
People are just shocking sometimes 🙄

It's not our company policy to pack, I choose to help those that need it but my gripe is with people that literally hit you up the face with grotty bags expecting to be weighted on hand and foot because they can't be arsed. Surly it's different using the email example as the person is specifically sending it to you for you to reply?

OP posts:
AwaAnBileYerHeid · 05/11/2021 22:43

I would just feign a confused look and look between the bag and the customer a few times while continuing to scan the items. Cheeky beggars.

Just10moreminutesplease · 05/11/2021 22:43

I would never ask for my bag to be packed and awkwardly say no when people offer… But I love it when people do it automatically Grin.

wolfstarling · 05/11/2021 22:43

Argh I have accepted the offer loads of time is that bad? Blush

Usually it's when I can't fit everything on the belt or the shop assistant is going too fast and I haven't emptied my trolley and there is a mountain on the other side.
