I hope they aren't down playing anything.

I know she is 95 but I hope she really is as ok as they are saying she is.

OP posts:
ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 25/10/2021 10:27

She's given up her lunchtime gin and evening martini on medical advice.

I wonder if she mumbled "Oh ffs!"

I hope she doesn't Google herself.
Every article is about "what happens if the Queen dies/will there be a bank holiday etc". That can't be nice for her.

BrilloPaddy · 25/10/2021 10:54

It can take a massive toll losing a life partner in your later years. I worked in elderly care, and it was really common that when one partner passed away, the other went not longer after even if they had been the healthier one of the two. It's a huge change, and even if they did live separately as rumoured, he was always publicly at her side.

I think she needs to step right back from public engagements for this year and let herself grieve. She's 95, give her a break.

This late in life I think that's unwise. I always enjoy hearing somebody who's made it to 100 answer the inevitable 'To what do you credit your long life?' questions. The answers are very varied, but often include 'I drink milk stout every day' or 'A little of what you fancy does you good' or similar non-hairshirt responses. I doubt very much whether HMQ had such a huge gin at lunchtime that she had to lie down all afternoon to sleep it off. Her mother, OTOH ...

@Tyredofallthis1

The Queen missed Church. I don't think that is usual. Hopefully she'll be better for a lie in.
Yes I was concerned by that. I suspect she is far more poorly than we are being told. She is known to be a devout Christian, she would not miss church unless really unwell.
ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 25/10/2021 12:28

it's so quintessentially British to be told the news "Queen is a bit unwell" and take it as "she's dying"

this meme comes to mind....🤣

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/10/2021 12:56

Grin I love Very British Problems. They've hit the nail on the head there.

IIRC she's currently staying at Windsor Castle and was due to attend the service at the chapel within the Castle complex. Short journey, not many people in the congregation? She hardly ever misses church too, as julieca says. Hmm

Peregrina · 25/10/2021 12:59

I don't think abdication is likely. The Queen will remember the horrific fall out of the abdication of her uncle. Besides, I think that she is all about duty.

This "she can't abdicate because of Edward VIII" annoys me. He was a relatively young man when he came to the throne, and despite the Appeasers, it was known that we were likely to go to war with Nazi Germany, so it was certainly very expedient that the abdicated.

I do think she ought to take a leaf out of the Dutch Royals' book and abdicate at an age when the heir is old enough to take over, but not him or herself of pension age. I think doing so could finally lay Edward's abdication to rest.

I do suspect she's more ill than they are saying - missing Church is something she very rarely does.

julieca · 25/10/2021 13:06

I was willing to accept she might just be a little bit unwell with an overnight stay in hospital. But her missing church is different. She is devout and I know from my own relatives who regularly went to church, they had to be very ill to miss it.
So either she is very unwell, or she has had something like a stroke and does not want to be seen in public using a wheelchair.
This does not mean she won't recover, but it is a possibility.

it's so funny, isn't it? I'm Hungarian and had to learn those truths the hard way!
I remember thinking decades ago that I should do a "What Brits say v what they mean" dictionary, I used to make notes after observing the massive discrepancies between words & facial expressions or actions.
Also I could've avoided a lot of heartache if someone had warned me that "let's get together soon, I'll give you a call on Thursday" meant none of that. I
I was a new mum without my family and friends and I cried for days because they never did follow up what I took as a promise. It was horrible and I used to think it was me.
Thank fuck I learnt quickly that it wasn't.
By the time my oldest went to primary I knew that "let's have coffee" meant "you'll never see me again" so I didn't fall for it.

She won't abdicate. In the eyes of the traditionalists, and the Queen is certainly that, it's ordained by God that she should be Queen. It's not a job, it's a position and a sacred charge that you inherit on the death of the previous monarch and retain until you yourself die. Who carries out the traditional duties of the monarch is a separate matter. They can easily be delegated.

I'm British born and bred, and struggle with that sort of social stuff, Zing!

Yes, that one's good too. Grin

Can someone explain the dihydrogen monoxide meme Confused

same as my MIL and other senior members in our family & friendship circles. she goes several times a week unless she's very ill or bed bound. so yeah, for the Queen this is a big thing and worrying.

I get that she needs her privacy but as head of state there should be clear information about her condition so all the speculation wouldn't even take off.
It's wrong that they only disclose vague info that sounds like they are lying or minimising any issues.
We don't need a list of symptoms, but people do actually worry about her so "taking a rest" and "under the weather" sounds dodgy.
She's been ill since Wednesday, is it? There's been plenty of time for tests and stuff. They know what's going on but are stalling.

Can someone explain the dihydrogen monoxide meme Confused
Dehydrogen Monoxide is H20 aka water.

The whole FB page is a sarcastic take on people who think everything is toxic and dangerous (flat-earthers, anti-vaxxers etc).
It's taking the piss out of the willfully ignorant.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 25/10/2021 13:57

excuse typo!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 25/10/2021 13:59

obv not H 20.🤣
H 2 O
but I can't type a little number between the letters - I wonder if it can be done on phone

Peregrina · 25/10/2021 14:32

But then we have now seen a Pope retire, and that was also seen as being appointed by God.

Cactus1982 · 25/10/2021 14:57

I don’t understand the secrecy around her condition? She is the head of state and without any clarity people will begin to speculate.

SunshineCake1 · 25/10/2021 15:02

Given she was seen the night before I'm wondering why the panic now. I know people can suddenly be ill but the Cop thing is important and it is highly likely the priest went to her to worship.

Cactus1982 · 25/10/2021 15:12

What was the cop thing?

SunshineCake1 · 25/10/2021 15:32

Is, it is happening next week I think. Climate change conference.

I agree. And it's all been a bit shit recently with Meghan and Harry, Prince Andrew, not to mention Covid. I wish her all the best but I wouldn't be surprised if she's basically had enough.
bestcattoyintheworld · 25/10/2021 15:40

A major bereavement, at any age, puts quite a strain on the cardiovascular system. Unfortunately, at the age the Queen is, this is a major risk for her.

julieca · 25/10/2021 15:41

I didnt know she had been seen since the hospital stay. The footage I saw on TV last night was taken before the hospital stay. Are you sure she has been seen in public?

Can you imagine the hysteria if the nation was told that the Queen is quite ill. I don't really blame them for keeping it quite low key and a bit hazy.
