I hope they aren't down playing anything.

I know she is 95 but I hope she really is as ok as they are saying she is.

@SunshineCake1

Not sure how many clothes she has is relevant to my point.
Old people who know their time is limited are reluctant to buy new clothes when they loose weight -so the weight loss is more apparent
EatSleepRantRepeat · 20/10/2021 17:34

I'm really worried about losing the Queen too. The one remaining female leader with any clout (in England), and I have a feeling a lot of the country will go into shock if she passed away with no warning, like when Diana died but worse. She's the nation's grandmother.

StealthPolarBear · 20/10/2021 17:38

She really is. On rhe other hand we're all, sadly, expecting it

Clandestin · 20/10/2021 17:40

@Littleheart5

I think she’s just being sensible about not attending a politically charged service in N Ireland, where the President of Ireland isn’t attending and is (understandably, we’ve all done it) saying she’s isn’t well as a polite excuse
I bet Miggeldy is saying 'Feck it, I should have said yes and then just developed a cold the day before!'
DateLoaf · 20/10/2021 17:44

I wish her well and hope this is about minimising potential contacts not that the Queen herself is currently ill.

SunshineCake1 · 20/10/2021 17:44

Still not relevant since I didn't mention clothes.

Porfre · 20/10/2021 17:47

@Clocktopus

With the covid numbers shooting up, I wonder if it's a discreet way of minimising her contacts and "resting for a few days" is another way of saying "avoiding germs for a bit".
I dont think the Queen would do this.

She takes her duty very seriously.

Littleheart5 · 20/10/2021 17:48

He’s won the hearts of the nation all over again by saying no, so I’d say he’s happy enough with his decision 😅

DILevil · 20/10/2021 17:50

I was surprised I couldn’t find anything about her mask less trip to Wales. When in Wales they have to wear masks still indoors everywhere, the queen went to open their senedd, no mask and greetings others at close distance no mask. When the rest of the country is still masked up. Thought someone would have picked up on the internet equality of them and us

You said she's lost weight.

PP simply said that old people don't buy new clothes which makes the weight loss look more noticeable.

It's not a criticism, just a conversation!

DaisyNGO · 20/10/2021 17:56

Everyone I know has a cold and in the last half hour I've developed shivers and aches too!

Hopefully she will be fine. She is made of good stuff.

madisonbridges · 20/10/2021 17:57

Poor Queenie. I hope she gets better soon. I've spent the day in bed being lazy, and I hope she has too.

What “clout” does the queen actually have? Surely none political? No say in policies?

95 year old passing away is hardly shocking when life expectancy is around 83 for females?

MintyGreenDream · 20/10/2021 17:58

You can tell she has the best health care possible. My Gran lived to 98 and could she fuck have been trotting about at 95.

Brightmagic · 20/10/2021 18:01

She has met hundreds of people in the last week including all the ministers in the Senedd on Thursday.
She shook lots of hands (wearing gloves) and looked on top form chatting and laughing (no mask.) I did think at the time that I would not personally have wanted to come into close contact with so many people in one afternoon. So maybe she did pick up something.

No warning? She's 95! Diana was 36. I'm afraid once someone is over the age of 80 a death is not unexpected.

I do agree (as I already said on this thread) that it will be a huge shock. No monarch in British history has reigned longer.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/10/2021 18:06

As for what clout she has, judging by The Crown (I know, only the best sources!), quite a lot, behind the scenes. She meets the Prime Minister every week and talks through what's going on.

853ax · 20/10/2021 18:19

Guess the travel involved impacted the decision. Sure she would be able to do events in London but an over seas trip for 95yo for two days is tiring plus at a time where there is lot Covid can see why medic s would advise she stays at home and rest it sensible

NeverDropYourMooncup · 20/10/2021 18:21

Maybe she's had her booster jab and feels like having a duvet day or three? It's not as if she has to get up to walk the dogs or pop to the corner shop because she's out of teabags, after all.

My dad was still playing golf at 98. His healthcare was no better than anyone else’s.
OneFamilyToRuleUsAll · 20/10/2021 18:25

Uh-oh!

Felt the same uh-oh when PP fell ill.

Think what I may about the RF but it's going to be a huge huge deal for this one. I'm rarely impacted by anyone that I don't know (I can feel sympathy but not impacted) but my heart's actually beating here!

poshme · 20/10/2021 18:26

I suspect it's security issue but they're using health as an excuse.

LoveGrooveDanceParty · 20/10/2021 18:31

Sadly, we have 10 years - absolute maximum - with her on the throne.

I have to admit - I feel as if, with democracy on the decline globally, the death of the Queen will be seismic. And not in a good way.

The winds of change.

LoveGrooveDanceParty · 20/10/2021 18:33

You surely have to acknowledge that that’s hardly common.

Maireas · 20/10/2021 18:35

I hope she makes it to February, and her platinum jubilee.
