Just musing about this. Most memorable would have to be The Americans, Orange is the New Black and Handmaid’s Tale. Not just the imagery/storylines/characters but the soundtracks too. Which shows have stayed with you long after they’ve finished?

Orange is the New Black and The Americans have both stayed with me. Loved them both.

TheSweetestHalleluja · 18/10/2021 15:33

This is Us, absolutely loved every episode so far.

MsTSwift · 18/10/2021 15:34

Orange is the new Black. Binged it - dd was having some friendship problems and my advice was rather influenced by that program and was perhaps more aggressive than o might normally have suggested. Dh was 😮 err maybe not do that dd2!

The Handmaid's Tale had the most profound effect on me. I studied it for A Level English approx 25 years and hated it. I thought it was a ridiculous story and didn't get it. Then when I watched the first series of the most recent adaptation it all seemed to fall in to place and it was just such a superb production. The subsequent series haven't lived up to the first which is disappointing but I continued to watch because of the impact it initially had on me.

Foolsrule · 18/10/2021 16:37

Yes - This Is Us is fab! Perhaps hasn’t had as much of an impact as the others, but a great show all the same.

I was bereft when The Americans finished - it was like the end of an era! Same with OITNB 🤦🏻‍♀️

pontiouspilates · 18/10/2021 16:45

I loved Brothers & Sisters, OITNB and, more recently, It's A Sin was very emotional but great.

Bagelsandbrie · 18/10/2021 16:49

It’s a sin is fantastic.

The Handmaids tale really got me. I was 17 when I first read the book and it affected me then and the tv series is just incredible.

Oddly enough more recently- Sex Education! Sounds ridiculous but the characters are so believable and it coincides with my dd going off to university and that parent / child bond changing. I haven’t cried so much in ages!! Blush

Foolsrule · 18/10/2021 16:51

Yes to It’s A Sin. Another one with great music too. I haven’t tried Sex Education. Thanks for the recommendation!

How I Met Your Mother

Foolsrule · 18/10/2021 16:52

@pontiouspilates - excellent username btw! What’s Brothers and Sisters about? I’m not familiar with that one.

Well, I’ve just finished Squid Game and let’s just say I’ve not been sleeping well over the past week….

Detectorists - my happy place a retreat to when I need everything to be calm and gentle.

It’s a Sin - definitely yes but Years and Years too.

hennybeans · 18/10/2021 17:02

I came on to say The Americans. I was so sad when it finished. I would love there to be a 2 hour update episode at some point. It was so sad, they dedicated their whole lives for what? I do know it's fiction, but surely there were people like them! I always recommend The Americans to my friends but nobody ever watches it.

Porfre · 18/10/2021 17:09

Revenge the first series. The soundtrack was amazing

PaddingtonStareBare · 18/10/2021 17:14

@Porfre - Yes!
First series of Revenge was fantastic, after that it got into the realms of ridiculous. 😒

Tinkerscuss · 18/10/2021 17:16

"Survivors" - 70s drama about an outbreak of rabies in the UK. Very disturbing and I'm amazed I was allowed to watch it when I was only about nine!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 18/10/2021 17:19

Dr Who, specifically the Daleks (when I was little) even now egg boxes give me the willies. Confused

Viviennemary · 18/10/2021 17:20

Tenko. I thought how did anybody survive that. And it was meant to be toned down.

I'm still worried about Oleg ☹️

Definitely Tenno too, I've watched it twice at different points in my life and I still think about it now.

Twizbe · 18/10/2021 17:39

It's a sin and years and years really got me.

I'm currently watching Tenko for the first time. Omg, that one is going to stay with me. My favourite character died in the episode I watched last night. I was a state.

Annoyedandirritated · 18/10/2021 17:40

Years and Years

FAQs · 18/10/2021 17:44

It’s a Sin also, programmes don’t usually stay with me, however Netflix Midnight Mass has given me a sleepless night or two.

The death speech has stuck with me from Midnight Mass, really comforting.
OldScrappyAndHungry · 18/10/2021 17:52

Yes definitely Years and Years - can really see it happening in the future. Especially the climate refugees and being told that every family has to take people in. So thought provoking Sad.

Astella22 · 18/10/2021 18:11

Some of the Charlie Brooker Black Mirror episodes really effected me. There was one episode where this person had committed a crime and his sentence was having to relive it every day in some type of theme park, so this person was running around panicking and couldn’t understand why no one would help and confused as to why everyone just whipped out their phones to record. I still remember the panic feeling.
There was also another episode where this mother was able to block her child’s father for seeing or interacting with his daughter.
I had to stop watching it all together as I couldn’t shake the uncomfortable feelings brought up in me.

RusholmeRuffian · 18/10/2021 18:15

Band of Brothers. Incredible TV.
