Just musing about this. Most memorable would have to be The Americans, Orange is the New Black and Handmaid’s Tale. Not just the imagery/storylines/characters but the soundtracks too. Which shows have stayed with you long after they’ve finished?
@Mackers17 I've hardly ever met anyone who watched that Torchwood series, the end of it was so awful wasn't it, I totally agree. It has stayed with me for years - massive ethical dilemmas throughout.
It really was heart-wrenching. When they were taking the children from the schools and the parents were at the gates trying to get to them, I was watching between my fingers and sobbing. It was horrific and you can just imagine that it would be exactly what would happen.

Mine’s a bit sad but I was absolutely obsessed with Robin of Sherwood back in the 80s. I think it triggered my love of forests, trees and all things a bit pagan-y.

TheSpiral · 18/10/2021 18:59

I agree with Chernobyl, I saw some episodes on a plane and it haunted me so much I made DH watch the whole series with me.

Twin Peaks. Just hearing the music is incredibly evocative.
The X-Files

And a German series called Die Zwiete Heimat - it was on in 1993 or thereabouts and really stayed with me, especially an episode when JFK died.

dottiedodah · 18/10/2021 19:03

Its a Sin was incredible I felt .Also some time ago now "The Womens Room" was very thought provoking to my young 20 something self .

NeverTheHootenanny · 18/10/2021 19:11

It’s a Sin definitely, don’t think I’ve ever felt so emotional after any other TV show/film.

Lonelymum21 · 18/10/2021 19:12

I usually prefer dark series like Black Mirror and This is England but one series that I really got invested in was Schitt's Creek! Proper heart warming TV and I was so sad when it finished.

Money Heist makes me want to move to pack up and move to Spain.

Cucumber
Malcolm in the middle, we watched it after school, it helped us learn English

NeverTheHootenanny · 18/10/2021 19:13

Most of the Black Mirror episodes have been pretty impactful and thought provoking for me too

Fauda
Caliphate (Swedish: Kalifat)

Both really incredible series around Syria or Palestine

Also half way through Squid Games - one episode I thought excellent

Chernobyl

I may destroy you Years and years Cucumber Malcolm in the middle, we watched it after school, it helped us learn English

@Simonjt there's an episode of Cucumber which is basically a two hander and I think it's possibly the most affecting single hour of TV I've watched. Such a shame it never got more recognition, Cyril Nri was amazing.

Roseinbloom20 · 18/10/2021 20:10

Outlander - I discovered it in the first lockdown and was absolutely hooked, I've re-watched it all again and am currently going through "Droughtlander" 😭 I love the time travel element, history and of course love story. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it but the episode "Faith" stays with me as I went through the same thing as Claire (obviously very different circumstances!) but I found her acting absolutely phenomenal and it makes me cry every single time.

The Royle Family, it's just so funny and true to life, I love the characters. It reminds me of being a kid in the 90s and it was something we all watched as a family and it's my go-to-happy program (except the Queen of Sheba which makes me cry every time!)

SummerSazz · 18/10/2021 20:13

I'm watching 'I may destroy you'. It's raw and uncomfortable re consent but the characters and friendships woven through it are fantastic.

drpaddington · 18/10/2021 20:13

13 reasons why. There are a few scenes in particular that really disturbed me.

Totally agree with Orange is the new black and It's a sin!

The west wing, many years ago!

Crimeismymiddlename · 18/10/2021 20:21

The ‘Thanksgiving’ episode of Master of None. It truly was perfect. I thought about it for days after.

jaundicedoutlook · 18/10/2021 20:28

@megletthesecond

Twin Peaks. I may destroy you.
That dreadful scream at the very end of the last episode gave me the absolute horrors.

Also, in the old series, Bob climbing over the back of the sofa…

pontiouspilates · 18/10/2021 20:32
@pontiouspilates - excellent username btw! What’s Brothers and Sisters about? I’m not familiar with that one.
Thank you! Brothers & Sisters is an American Family drama, a good few years old now. Great cast including Calista Flockhart, Rob Lowe and Sally Field. A bit like This Is Us. Think it's on Prime.

Lottapianos · 18/10/2021 20:40

'River. It was a detective series with Nicola Walker assisting her former boss'

That was a very strange and lovely show. Stellan Skarsgard gave one of the best portrayals of acute grief I've seen

Chernobyl. Brilliant but devastating

Years and Years. Episode 4 was one of the most harrowing hours of TV I've ever watched

A BBC drama many years ago called 'Care', about the legacy of child sexual abuse

MintyGreenDream · 18/10/2021 20:43

The Sopranos
