New branch just opened near us. Tesco is getting more expensive so thought I'd give Aldi a go. Any recommendations of things to try?

Oooh watching with interest - it’s the same here - brand new branch. I took a very very quick look and picked up some gorgeous hand soaps, OP! I’ve forgotten the name of them but the scents - orange & bergamot and rhubarb & rose - were just gorgeous!

The chocolate!

Joystir59 · 15/10/2021 15:40

Cheers chocolate wine and dog beds

inigomontoyahwillcox · 15/10/2021 15:41

Specially Selected Pesto Rosso

SockFluffInTheBath · 15/10/2021 15:42

The fruit & veg in ours is very good, cheeses, cold antipasti type stuff, chocolate, frozen vegetarian range, wine is good. Cleaning products are great, ‘posh’ crisps and Christmas stuff. My favourite thing about Aldi is that I can do my weekly shop in 30 mins rather than losing 2 hours of my life in Tesco!

ShowOfHands · 15/10/2021 15:42

Worth a search on here. There's at least one thread a week asking for Aldi recommendations.

Buzzer3555 · 15/10/2021 15:43

Focaccia is lovely.

FionnulaTheCooler · 15/10/2021 15:44

I like the crispy shredded salt and pepper chicken from the freezer bit. Also the tubs of marshmallow brownie bomb bites in the bakery bit. They do a version of Dr Pepper "Professor Peppy" that is just as nice as the original. Their American Hot frozen pizza is the best supermarket version of it I've had and you can get the tub of garlic and herb dip too that tastes exactly like the Dominoes ones.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 15/10/2021 15:47

Their posh range of olives are amazing, particularly the chimichurri ones!

HelloCanYouHearMe · 15/10/2021 15:49

Sloe gin mince pies

BadPlaceJanet · 15/10/2021 15:49

Ooh, they do these marzipan praline chocolate bars for Christmas that I got proper addicted to last year. They are in again now!

DentalWorries · 15/10/2021 15:54

Fruit. DP is a fiend for expensive fruit and it’s not quite as bad if it’s from Aldi. I also buy all the knock off cereal bars and things like fake Pom Bears and Hula Hoops for packed lunches.

The £4.99 screw top Prosecco is lovely as is the sparkling rose in the clear pretty looking bottle.

I also discovered the frozen halloumi sticks last week and ate the whole packet in one go dipped in sweet chilli sauce Blush

fedup65356 · 15/10/2021 15:55

I love Aldi!

Moser Roth chocolate
Greek Yoghurt - especially the Salted Caramel one.
Smoked Salmon with lemon and pepper
Ice cream
Three Fish Roast
Salmon, Leek and Cheese Wellington
Salmon, Dill, Prawn & White Wine Sauce Wellington
Halloumi Burgers
Lacura Rose Water Toner
Lacura Sleep Spray
Wine
Garlic and Cheese Bread
Pizza
Croissants
Their own cleaning and laundry range
Their own bleach in the grey bottle - best bleach I've ever used, cruelty free too.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 15/10/2021 16:27

Ooh thanks!

Most of it actually.

The florentines are amazing 🤩

FrangipanFlower · 15/10/2021 16:35

The cheese and onion crisps in the black specially selected range are amazing, kalamata olives, veggie sausages in the chilled section, frozen prawns, chocolate, orange and mango squash, big tubs of Greek yogurt, protein yoghurts esp. the passion fruit and mango flavour, packs of nuts cashews, almonds etc work out so much cheaper than Tesco, I could go on and on

Redshoeblueshoe · 15/10/2021 16:36

There was a thread on here yesterday recommending various beauty products of theirs. So have a look at that. Love the Moser Roth chocolate's.

Naaaaah · 15/10/2021 16:36

The posh brownie and raspberry dessert thing. My god it's gorgeous.

The coffee pods.

The vitamin C in a glass dropper bottle.

Leftphalange · 15/10/2021 16:37

Their tiger bread is very good!

Sleepinghyena · 15/10/2021 16:37

Also agree with pp that most of it is good.
I would avoid the "Lurpak" rip off, the yoghurts and the oven chips.

IGotHam · 15/10/2021 16:38

All the cheese, especially the posh range. The baked in the oven cheddar is amazing. Fruit and veg always good and their whole chorizo and kalamata olives are delicious. Wine is also excellent, in particular any of their Italian reds.

LetterOfTheLawFella · 15/10/2021 16:38

They do a dupe of the 1kg meridian peanut butter tubs which is fab and costs about half the price.

Also their foodie market low carb noodles and spaghetti made from soy/black beans.

Nuts.

85% chocolate.

PurrBox · 15/10/2021 16:43

Soft giant pretzels in the bakery
Hummus
Wine

SilverOtter · 15/10/2021 16:44

Their half coated choc chunk cookies are my favourite indulgence 🤤

SockFluffInTheBath · 15/10/2021 16:45

The ‘posh’ thick cut Maris piper oven chips are good but need 40mins in the oven.
