HELP! I am (apparently) a grown adult 42 woman, but I can’t turn my shoes off.

I have purchased some very charming, exceedingly comfortable trainers from Next in the sale.

On hindsight these may have been from the children’s section. The clue is in the soles which flash brighter than the sun. Which is rather fun. But didn’t become apparent until the tags were off and they were upon my feet.

There is NO SWITCH! Nothing. Zero. Nada.

Do they not come with one? What if I need to speak to the Bank Manager, or other actual adults. Someone please tell me the off switch if hidden in a hitherto undiscovered location.

I’m not giving these bad boys up. They’re super comfy and cool. All solutions welcome*

*apart from grow up and return them.

@CarrieMoonbeams

Is it these ones OP?
those are amazing!
HoneyDragon · 07/10/2021 13:41

I got them in the Next sale in store. They are ortholite camo trainers, according to the receipt.

I would just wear them with joy, who cares what anyone else thinks, shine bright!

Oh, now I’m nostalgic for the light up trainers I had when I was small!

They turned off when I stamped my feet I think? I’m not entirely sure but they were the best shoes I ever owned Grin. Enjoy them in all their flashing glory!

Mantlemoose · 07/10/2021 13:45

I've had a shitty morning at work but you've made.my day. Keep flickering!!

Metalhead · 07/10/2021 13:47

Probably not what you want to hear, but we recently got some of DD1s old flashing shoes down from the attic after about 5 years, and they’re still flashing, so I think the batteries in them are made to last…

GothicaAutistica · 07/10/2021 13:49

I had flashing trainers as a child in the 90s. They were quite popular back then.

Nostalgia is one hell of a drug!

BabbleBee · 07/10/2021 13:51

I’ve never ever had light up shoes. Ever. Not fair.

This could be about to change….

PerkingFaintly · 07/10/2021 13:51

@Soubriquet

Btw, welcome back HoneyDragon. This is such a you post too Grin
+1 Grin

This with shiny sparkly bells on!!!!

BearSoFair · 07/10/2021 13:53

I thought the title was meant to be 'I can't TAKE my shoes off' and thought that would be entertaining enough, imagined you might have squeezed feet into a too small pair...but this is so much better Grin

lilyrules · 07/10/2021 13:56

This is amazing. Just enjoy the flashing! If anyone comments they're just jealous. I'm buying myself a pair in solidarity. Gin
Also, ask the shop you got them from?

GothicaAutistica · 07/10/2021 13:58

I agree with everyone else. Just wear and enjoy them. If you prefer, snap up a cheapo pair of canvas shoes from Shoe Zone (very comfy) and just wear those when the 90s nostalgia would look out of place. Smile

tribpot · 07/10/2021 14:03

For anyone looking for a pair, here they are online and they go up to an adult size 8!

Putting mine in the basket now.

nonsensenow · 07/10/2021 14:04

My son has these, I'm yet to find an off street, I kept having to tell him to sit still in the cinema. He's had them 6 months, they've been through the wash and still flash.

I'm a little jealous my clown feet won't fit flashing shoes.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 07/10/2021 14:05

Ideal for festivals/camping and anything involving a field and a Porter loo!
Never tread on a cow pat (or worse) again.
If I ever get to Glastonbury again, I'm in!

My feet will be the disco Smile
Welcome back honey. I didn't realise you'd gone but nice to see a familiar name. MN has been even odder of recent times so a refreshing read indeed Smile

ChargingBuck · 07/10/2021 14:08

@trilbydoll

Get them wet? In my experience it doesn't completely kill the light up feature but makes it develop an intermittent fault which might be sufficient for people to think they must have been mistaken in imagining your shoes light up.
[grin Grin Grin

& go the full deflection route while you're at it OP.

Get one of those laser pointers, to distract bank managers & their ilk from spotting the full glory of The Shoes. A nifty bit of sleight of hand with some Bacofoil or even your phone light might help.

If that fails, you may have to go full Flashy Thing:

Usecoooomonsnse · 07/10/2021 14:12

@HoneyDragon Link please

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 07/10/2021 14:12

Best solution is to run the battery down by constant use. WHenever they go off, make them go on again. Should only take a few weeks Halloween Grin

ChargingBuck · 07/10/2021 14:14

to make them stop you could try putting them in the freezer for 24/48 hours. I believe it works with annoying kids

I can vouch for this @monkeywrench

LittleGwyneth · 07/10/2021 14:16

I think this is a stealth brag because those of us with bigger feet can't fulfil our childhood dreams of having light-up trainers. Very cruel, OP.

HoneyDragon · 07/10/2021 14:16

There are an awful lot of you here who are experienced light up shoe slayers.

OP posts:
spiderlight · 07/10/2021 14:16

When my little petrol-head was younger, he had the most awesome pair of trainers that looked like little silver cars with actual working headlights. They were awesome! I don't think they could be switched off though.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 07/10/2021 14:22

To be fair, my small boys were the best at slaying them but it did take a while.

LovelyBitOfSquirrelInTheWirral · 07/10/2021 14:22

Serious question, I’m 41, do I need to wait until I am 42 to buy flashing shoes which shine brighter than the sun?
