Recommend me a picture book about a GIRL

I'm looking for a picture book about a human girl. All our books are:

  • about animals
  • about boys
  • about girls overcoming sexism (e.g. Zog)

I want a story about a girl, that doesn't focus on overcoming sexism. We have so many books about boys just, doing stuff. For example:

  • Harry and the Bucket Full of Dinosaurs - Boy finds some dinosaurs and takes them everywhere with him.

  • Stanley's Stick - Boy plays with a stick and throws it into the ocean.

  • Lost and Found - Boy finds a penguin and tries to take him back home.

  • Alfie Gets in First - Boy locks his Mum out of the house and can't open the front door.

Can anyone recommend the girl equivalent of these books? Obviously, we will read the books about boys as well, but it would be nice to have some books about girls in the house.

There's a lovely book called The Girls. It's about a group of girls who grow up together.

I also have a few of the little people, big ideas books. I have Marie Curie, Jane Austen and Emmeline Pankhurst.

Another good one is 'if I had a sleepy sloth. The main character is a girl but it's about wanting to have a sloth as a pet.

For older girls, Curious Pearl Science Girl is great.

The Girls by Lauren Ace is a lovely book, but I know what you mean - I've just quickly scanned my shelf and most of the favourite books that are not animals or cartoons, are boys.

Time for bed little one

About a little girl who procrastinates going to bed by imagining herself as various characters. Lovely little book

Katie Morag series (not read them so not an actual recommendation, just a possibility)

Izzy Gizmo is fantastic. She’s a little girl who’s an inventor but gives up too easily, until she meets a crow who needs help.

The Emily Brown books are great. Emily Brown and her rabbit Stanley have fantastic adventures on the Zambezi and Mt Everest etc and take no shit off anyone.
