What are the papers trying to hint about Meghan?

My curiosity is getting the better of me here. I know when papers can't print something, they hint and hint terribly:
-the falling out between the d.o.c & her Norfolk friend

  • comparing the guy who plays lord grantham to Ryan giggs etc.

But I just can't figure out what they're trying to say by banging on and on about the duchess of Sussex's 'unseasonably warm coat'. There's easily been 5 articles in the dm about it. I know I shouldn't care, but I'm bored and sleep deprived so if anyone would like to humour me, I'm all ears!

I should probably add I quite like Meghan and I'm trying to drop my mindless scrolling of the daily Mail so if you're going to slate either party, I'd much prefer that it was the mail!

@doubleshotcappuccino

Daily Mail have obviously not been ferreting around enough on MN active chat if they went with " woman wears coat" headline. Slow news day perhaps ? It's actually making things worse for Kate because Megan's global appeal is huge - so by pitting them against each other makes it harder for our Royal Family - the younger gen are going Team Meghan - when they're shouldn't be team anything - media have created this but Kate could have done so much more to put her hand up and say "enough" they have made her look like she has to be championed by the Daily Mail because she can't speak got herself - not the best role model compared to other Queens and queens in waiting around the world - Kate actively campaigned for anti bullying but then did nothing when the racists came for Meghan - that's really hard to swallow for many people around the world and makes our royal fam look out of touch.
Good post.

Waits while someone trawls the internet to find a picture of Di dressed in high fashion at a similar event.

BananaPB · 26/09/2021 12:36

@dontyouwish2

Lol about KM being a hard act to follow 😂😂😂
The Duchess of Cambridge was photographed in a tennis skirt looking slim and trim earlier this week. If you have post partum/lockdown weight that you haven't shifted, you wouldn't want to be photographed on the same day as your SIL

So how come Kate wore a Dolce & Gabbana to a mental health conference & children's hospital visit?

That won't be cheap & let's not forgot the racist accusations against D&G.

I just don't understand the hypocrisy, why hold Meghan to a higher standard?

amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 12:39

Anyway, it's probably because she's hiding weight, recording equipment and promoting a new Autumn/Winter collection. If you're going to do something why not get the max out of it you can. No worse than a lot of other celebs.

Wowsers do people actually think like this.

exactly

amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 12:41

As I said early not necessarily cheap clothing just not flashy this obviously cost a fortune type outfits. I haven't seen the outfit, but my guess is it's very safe.

wellards · 26/09/2021 12:42

It's a red trouser suit, I don't understand what's flashy about it

wellards · 26/09/2021 12:42

I'm not sure children deprived or not can identify high end clothing

Mynameismargot · 26/09/2021 12:43

I thought they were just trying to say haha look she doesn't even know how to dress herself Confused. I didn't think of weight/pregnancy/fake pregnancies/wires at all. I thought she looked lovely, I would love to look that well groomed.

What a knob head comment!

bravelittlepenguin · 26/09/2021 12:43

I think it's (a) to point out how expensive the outfits are which they are doing in the same breath ie she pretends to be a woman of the people but is actually (in the DMs eyes) an entitled rich girl and (b) that she's just ridiculous in her winter clothes.

But yeah I agree it's odd.

amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 12:43

Early on Kate made quite a few fashion mistakes too. And Diana, remember that see through skirt photo.

I was being facetious

But that's what I don't understand, how is she any different from all the other royals & celebs who do this thing & why does wearing Primark mean you are a women of the people despite being wealthy. Isn't it disingenuous?

amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 12:46

Well, it's red for starters, massive killer heels, wide pants she's tripping over and a .....shacket???????

It's high end fashion, which is very in amongst the minority who can afford to waste that much money on looking odd, but just looks daft to people who are more worried about paying their rent.

Have you not read posts on here where brides and/or bridesmaids post about this sort of dynamic?

The media love pitting women against each other like Diana and Fergie, Meghan and Catherine... "Who wore it better?" is a common feature in some media

amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 12:50

It's about class, not as in upper class Vs lower class, but having class. Classy people don't need to show off their wealth, they know how to dress appropriately for the occasion. It's not an awful crime, like I say others before have made the same mistakes, but it was misguided. I'm sorry if my opinion on this upsets you, it's not meant to.

So it's ok if it's a "safe" outfit that costs ££££ cause it's ok to spend money as long as you are not spending it on looking odd?

FYI, Shackets are not avant-garde.

roses2 · 26/09/2021 12:54

She looks pretty good and not pregnant or fat in this photo taken last night:

amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 12:55

I don't make the rules and I don't recall giving an opinion on the rights and wrongs of how people judge one an others outfits. In PR terms it was a mistake as was whatever happened with Harry shoving that kid.

amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 12:56

The "optics" are bad.

wellards · 26/09/2021 12:57

But we know all of the people mentioned on this thread are privileged & rich. They don't suddenly become less so because they wear a £50 dress.

I think it's disingenuous to dress cheaply for a visit despite living a life of luxury & wealth. And by that logic how can any royals do charity work when they live the life they do? why visit homeless shelters when they live in palaces, why visit school kids when their children go private etc, William has done some climate change thing but flies & drives SUVs. They do charity for PR & awareness, not because they are men or women of the people.

I'm sorry if my opinion on this upsets you, it's not meant to.

I just think it's illogical & very old fashioned.
