What are the papers trying to hint about Meghan?

My curiosity is getting the better of me here. I know when papers can't print something, they hint and hint terribly:
-the falling out between the d.o.c & her Norfolk friend

  • comparing the guy who plays lord grantham to Ryan giggs etc.

But I just can't figure out what they're trying to say by banging on and on about the duchess of Sussex's 'unseasonably warm coat'. There's easily been 5 articles in the dm about it. I know I shouldn't care, but I'm bored and sleep deprived so if anyone would like to humour me, I'm all ears!

I should probably add I quite like Meghan and I'm trying to drop my mindless scrolling of the daily Mail so if you're going to slate either party, I'd much prefer that it was the mail!

Oh didn't you know, apparently there's no Lilibet Diana's registered in the state of whatever, but a Diana born 9n the same date in a neighbouring state or something.Shock

yep

Expensive clothes when visiting deprived areas - bad taste and not like Kate who wears Zara

I don't understand this pov. Why is it good taste to wear cheaper clothes when you are going back to your swanky car, staff & excellent food in a mansion or palace? Or only wear them when visiting deprived areas but it's ok to wear £££ for other events?
Do the cheaper clothes help us to forget these people are rich?

I really hate to compare women to each other especially Kate and Meghan, it's really unfair, but Kate does tend to dress less high fashion more bloody expensive high street at community events. But her jewellery is probably still very expensive.

wellards · 26/09/2021 11:37

probably? isn't Diana's ring meant to be worth nearly 1/2 a mill? doesn't she wear a Cartier watch that costs 5k ish?

Kate is an incredibly hard act to follow - she has attributes you can’t fake or buy, her incredible figure, height & hair. The comparisons were very unfair.

@ginghamstarfish

I would guess financial motives given the way this precious pair seem to be going? Advertising the brand? So much for privacy.
It’s kind of a normal c-list celeb thing to do though and that’s what they are now.
amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 11:40

But it all depends on what she chooses to wear on any given day doesn't it, sometimes she wears cheepo earrings, so on that day her jewellery may be worth a little less than when she's wearing her diamonds.

Even the DM who love the frugal Kate angle went with this story

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8394357/amp/Kate-Middleton-wore-94-000-worth-new-clothing-2020.html

94k worth of clothes in 2020 but I cause it's ok cause it's high street.

Here you go Mail, I've written it for you:

"Mystery deepens around circumstances of Lilibet's birth"

"Palace to request original birth record"

"Palace insiders 'concerned' at reports"

"Palace to investigate implications around succession"

You are right there teapiggies. Kate really won the genetic lottery and anyone would struggle to compete if they chose to think about it like that, but Meghan wasn't exactly at the back of the que when they were handing out looks.

SnottyLottie · 26/09/2021 11:43

I thought Meghan’s ethos was wearing responsibly sourced clothes and jewellery. So it’s more expensive but isn’t made in a sweat shop/destroying the earth and the people who create them get a fair wage. Kate might wear cheaper/high street clothes but I doubt they are responsibly sourced and are considered fast fashion and so bad for the environment/ethically dubious?

Or have I just made that up? 😆

😆 Nothing against Kate because she seems nice & I don't know anything about her but I think younger people find Meghan more fashion forward & modern in general, hence why they garner so much press attention & threads like this. I'm late 30s & have no interest in Kate or her wardrobe, she has to be safe to appeal to the pearl clutches.

I'm 5ft 9 which I think makes me Kates height or taller, nothing incredible about it! And it's obviously very subjective but imo Kate is very slim & athletic however that doesn't equal incredible figure to me. Agree to disagree again.

Gosh you’ve got it in for me today haven’t you Wellards Grin

I don’t mean Kate is sexy or fashion-forward, but she’s an incredible clothes horse & a classic English rose. Meghan’s different, pretty in a girl-next-door way with a more relaxed style. But it tends to be the thinner, classic-looking women that photograph better, which is only relevant because that’s the medium through which the world sees them.

amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 11:47

Grin @PicsInRed, sometimes I have to stop reading it because I'm afraid I will loose all perspective.

I'm kind of middle of the road, I don't particularly like them but they're people and I try to be fair and un-bat-shit about them!Grin

Kate is a well groomed attractive women as is Meghan. We shouldn't be comparing them as it's not a competition but if we are why only on their looks? women are a lot more then what they look like!

If that were true they wouldn’t need to spend 4,000 dollars on a coat. They invest in the way they look, of course it will then be noticed.
AtillatheHun · 26/09/2021 11:51

And Loro Piana is literally the opposite of fashion forward. I wouldn’t put max mara in that bracket either, nor Valentino main line. She’s all about ultra luxury now. No hiding it - just like their desire to remain private and for Harry to protect his wife from cameras is just a long lost fantasy. He has however done admirably at keeping the children protected. Let’s hope it’s not at the expense of them having a normal existence - at least Harry was taken to the cinema / went to Thorpe park/ nursery school up the road etc. Maybe there are photos in the US that don’t get printed here but surely Archie is of an age to be headed for nursery school? Isn’t he about 3 by now?

PinkTonic · 26/09/2021 11:53

I think it’s reasonable to speculate on why a woman with her resources would be so inappropriately dressed for planned public appearances. It’s bizarre to wear a full on winter wardrobe in NYC in September.

wellards · 26/09/2021 11:54

Gosh you’ve got it in for me today haven’t you Wellards

Am I not allowed to disagree with your opinion? But if it's a problem than you can ignore me & not respond.

I don't think Kate is an "incredible clothes horse" at all. Obviously she is under strict constraints but I often find it so surprising for someone young & so slim that she often doesn't pull off her outfits & looks dated, it's confusing!

Meghan looks great in photos, she's very photogenic & I think they both have that girl next door thing going on. I really don't see this Kate is amazing & Meghan is average thing. Perhaps it's an age thing, Im in my 30s & from London so a classic, safe dress sense wouldn't be my thing but I understand Kate has to dress in a certain way.

wellards · 26/09/2021 11:56

This doesn't make sense, she's a rich women & likes the coat, so what?

It's certainly more fashion forward than Kate which was my point & Im talking in general i.e everything she wears. Plus the ability to wear a stuffy older label & make it look more modern is the sign of a good clothes house.

SickAndTiredAgain · 26/09/2021 12:00

I think her figure means that it’s easy to find clothes that look good on her, and that will look good when photographed. Even if you don’t particularly like the clothes themselves.

I disagree with the poster who said that Meghan’s shape is hard to dress. Some of her clothes I wouldn’t personally choose to wear myself but as a rule I think she generally looks good.
