What are the papers trying to hint about Meghan?

My curiosity is getting the better of me here. I know when papers can't print something, they hint and hint terribly:
-the falling out between the d.o.c & her Norfolk friend

  • comparing the guy who plays lord grantham to Ryan giggs etc.

But I just can't figure out what they're trying to say by banging on and on about the duchess of Sussex's 'unseasonably warm coat'. There's easily been 5 articles in the dm about it. I know I shouldn't care, but I'm bored and sleep deprived so if anyone would like to humour me, I'm all ears!

I should probably add I quite like Meghan and I'm trying to drop my mindless scrolling of the daily Mail so if you're going to slate either party, I'd much prefer that it was the mail!

Yeah I'm sorry, but that red outfit is not something your average person would wear and you certainly would be laughed at if you showed up in the pub in it. But most people don't like or "get" that catwalk high fashion style. It's not relatable and not suitable for a school visit IMO, but I know fuck all about fashion. Most of it look ridiculous to me lol.

wellards · 26/09/2021 12:05

I think her figure means that it’s easy to find clothes that look good on her, and that will look good when photographed. Even if you don’t particularly like the clothes themselves.

It should be but she has to watch her proportions as often it doesn't look quite right. The waistline & length can often be in the wrong position & it throws it off.

I think it looks great but she's not an average person & would be unlikely to wear it to a pub in the same way Kate wouldn't wear a dress coat to the pub.

Maybe she's keeping the coat on at all times for continuity (?) purposes if they are being filmed. Like on GBBO and Sewing Bee where everyone wears the same clothes for 2 or 3 days.
She must have been swealtered though, I had a sweatshirt on and thought I was dying and Im in NI.

GreatPotato · 26/09/2021 12:09

@IsabelBeck

She's miscalculated (or her stylist has) and arrived in an autumnal New York with a full on winter wardrobe. It's 75°F there and she's wearing polo necks and heavy winter clothes. That's what they're commenting on.
I bet the Royal ladies maids wouldn't have got that wrong Grin
wellards · 26/09/2021 12:10

i reckon they are filming though

@wellards

Kate really won the genetic lottery and anyone would struggle to compete if they chose to think about it like that, but Meghan wasn't exactly at the back of the que when they were handing out looks.

Kate is a well groomed attractive women as is Meghan. We shouldn't be comparing them as it's not a competition but if we are why only on their looks? women are a lot more then what they look like!

Goodness, both spent considerable time and money to look the way they do. There are enough old photos of both young women to prove it. Plastic surgery, hair extensions, yadda yadda yadda.

Let’s not say one is naturally beautiful and the other isn’t. They both are very pretty and both had good help along the way 🙃

Now … Kate has better tailoring. Probably because she doesn’t (can’t?) merch so can tailor things to her advantage.

KM is long-waisted and has short legs. Everything is tailored to give her the appearance of a higher waist and a longer leg.

Usually seamless (so to speak) but gave her a bit of trouble early on—this kind of tailoring had an unintended consequence of making her dresses fly up because the arse is actually lower down than it appears. Not as much fabric was doing the very important job of weighing the skirt down.

I think these days she’s using a belt to achieve the same effect with longer (ie safer) dresses.

amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 12:12

She wouldn't wear it to the pub, but she wore it to visit deprived children?? Look, it's not a major thing but she didn't make the best choice of clothing for the event, IMO.

doubleshotcappuccino · 26/09/2021 12:15

When they don't have anything else to bash her about they bash her about wearing a coat - at the same time fawning over everything Kate does. Kate doesn't strike me as a bad person but this constant forcing of her on a pedestal whilst Meghan backfires against D.O.C .. it's like at school where one girl is hero worshipped - your just baiting a backlash and actually makes me feel nothing but compassion for Meghan and also slightly annoyed that the media can think they can serve us this warm mulch of " Kate good, Meghan bad" and we will just lap it up .. awful bullying which proves their point - own goal for the Daily Mail

wellards · 26/09/2021 12:16

So is it the trouser suit or cost that's offensive to the deprived children? Personally I think it's a bit off to suggest the "deprived kids" would be offended. They aren't stupid, they know she's rich. Wearing a Primark trouser suit wouldn't make that less so.

lollipoprainbow · 26/09/2021 12:16

Obviously a dig about her weight

UsedUpUsername · 26/09/2021 12:18

I disagree with the poster who said that Meghan’s shape is hard to dress. Some of her clothes I wouldn’t personally choose to wear myself but as a rule I think she generally looks good

She looked great in casual wear and more ‘sophisticated young office worker’ type outfits.

Now she’s trying a power-suited serious person aesthetic and it’s just not working. And seemingly not tailoring anything and not considering the season. She’s lived in Toronto, she’s aware of the climate (I’ve noted previously why she’s wearing what she’s wearing …)

QueefofSheena · 26/09/2021 12:19

DM are cunts and I wish they and others would just knock it off. I don’t dislike Meghan and she has no impact on my life whatsoever. I don’t really get the vitriol from people who really should be directing their bile at the sweaty nonce and those who are protecting him. By that I mean the media and certain sections of MN.

amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 12:20

Good Tailoring can hide a multitude of sins. I'm not sure about plastic surgery but both ladies have a lot of money for treatments, dressers and stylists, being so scrutinized it's not unreasonable of them to want to look their best.

GreatPotato · 26/09/2021 12:23

What lubs do you go to that problem laugh at what others wear. I quite like that suit and actually, if I ever owned such a thing, I think it would be very wearable. It wouldn't look out of place for a pub meal IMO (assuming it was weather appropriate!). You could wear that almost anywhere.
doubleshotcappuccino · 26/09/2021 12:25

Daily Mail have obviously not been ferreting around enough on MN active chat if they went with " woman wears coat" headline. Slow news day perhaps ? It's actually making things worse for Kate because Megan's global appeal is huge - so by pitting them against each other makes it harder for our Royal Family - the younger gen are going Team Meghan - when they're shouldn't be team anything - media have created this but Kate could have done so much more to put her hand up and say "enough" they have made her look like she has to be championed by the Daily Mail because she can't speak got herself - not the best role model compared to other Queens and queens in waiting around the world - Kate actively campaigned for anti bullying but then did nothing when the racists came for Meghan - that's really hard to swallow for many people around the world and makes our royal fam look out of touch.

doubleshotcappuccino · 26/09/2021 12:26

@QueefofSheena well said ! Forgot about him

amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 12:27

Well, IMO wearing strange red shacket power suit to meet deprived children is odd. For one I'd want to dress in something relaxed to put the kids at ease and secondly I would feel like a hypocrite wearing clothes that are flashy and obviously worth so much money. When celebs do this kind of thing they usually dress down, it's still expensive but not obviously flashy. As I said before, it's not that big a deal, you are kind of making it more of a deal than it should be tbh, but for a couple who desperately need to improve their image it was a mistake. Everyone makes them.

wellards · 26/09/2021 12:28

I agree that all the press bad or good isn't good for the RF as it makes W&K look a bit invisible. W&K should be all over the press now we are out of lockdown but they aren't.

But the only reason she's at these events is that she's "a princess". That's what the children are expecting to see, not someone who looks like their mum.
amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 12:31

I'm from the North of England, remember us, we have no need to wear clown clothes for a pint, to visit a school or for any other reasons tbh. But fashion is in the eye of the beholder and it's not up to me to dictate what others wear, just as it is not up to anyone else to dictate to me how I should feel about it.

Peace, it's just clothes.

dontyouwish2 · 26/09/2021 12:31

Lol about KM being a hard act to follow 😂😂😂

amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 12:32

Diana was a real princess and never wore anything like that to visit poor people, ever!

amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 12:33

Didn't do her any harm, in fact people loved her for her relaxed informal style. She ramped it up when appropriate.

Men wear suits to these kind of events eg Harry, presidents and prime ministers. I don't think that her clothes choice was a problem.

Hugging kids when parents are not allowed in the school because of the pandemic is questionable but this is a decision by the school
