What are the papers trying to hint about Meghan?

My curiosity is getting the better of me here. I know when papers can't print something, they hint and hint terribly:
-the falling out between the d.o.c & her Norfolk friend

  • comparing the guy who plays lord grantham to Ryan giggs etc.

But I just can't figure out what they're trying to say by banging on and on about the duchess of Sussex's 'unseasonably warm coat'. There's easily been 5 articles in the dm about it. I know I shouldn't care, but I'm bored and sleep deprived so if anyone would like to humour me, I'm all ears!

I should probably add I quite like Meghan and I'm trying to drop my mindless scrolling of the daily Mail so if you're going to slate either party, I'd much prefer that it was the mail!

@Hen2018

I have no idea who Lady Louise is and didn’t know Meghan Markle had 2 children.
Edwards eldest.

Archie and Lilibet.

Now you can rest easy tonight 😂

I don’t think @Teapiggies is really criticising her body, just critiquing the way the clothes and styles look.

At risk of sounding a buy wanky, fashion can be seen as art. It is okay to critique the way clothes look visually, and more interesting when the looks are designed by a stylist; the same looking at interior design and composition is interesting.

PineNutsAreOverpriced · 26/09/2021 18:38

I am a similar shape to Meghan - was tiny before pregnancy but put on a lot of weight and have struggled to lose my tummy/thickness around the waist every since.

And it is a very hard shape to dress! Having really slim arms and legs but a round tummy means the clothes don’t hang well or fit properly, and there is a risk of looking pregnant in anything fitting. There are women who are a lot bigger but can carry off a range of outfits because they are in proportion.

Or a photo of Diana in a red outfit to show how she's just copying Diana and is awful vs showing Kate wearing something like Diana because she's doing it to honour her

Oh you don’t remember all those ‘she’s a copykate!’ articles from way back?

From KM tho I thought the copying was intentional

Plumtree391 · 26/09/2021 18:41

pastabest

I've noticed there's been lots of fluffy DM articles about Lady Louise recently as well and I've been wondering what's been going on there too.
.........
I haven't read anything but from what I've seen of her on TV programmes she seems like a real sweetie.

Yeah but now they think Meghan is doing it, it seems like it's OK for THE REAL PRINCESS to do it.
niveaessential · 26/09/2021 23:26

I think it's a subtle way of comparing her to Catherine or to question why she still dresses like an English royal? Don't think she's ever wore coats that often before.

PompomDahlia · 26/09/2021 23:56

I think she looks fab for someone who just gave birth. The stuff about her using surrogates was just vile and smacked of racism.

Apparently it was chilly that morning and also WTC is freezing due to aircon.

I find the idea of wearing a Zara dress to meet ‘poor’ people a bit patronising. Everyone knows you’re going back to your palace afterwards. IME people I’ve encountered who took most pride in their appearance were often not very well off at all.

ponyexpress22 · 27/09/2021 00:17

I hardly think it's going to bother her. But do people really feel sorry for her. Her and Harry seem to have much better lives than most of us here.

I think people have gossiped that Kate and William used a surrogate too. It's just the latest celeb trend to use a surrogate and so every famous pregnant woman gets the finger pointed at them. It's kind of pathetic really and no one's business if they did or didn't.

I don't think it's the press interest that's the problem, it's the public interest. As long as people keep clicking on stories about them and buying papers/magazine with them on it, the press will continue to print stuff about them, even if it's complete non-news.

Taiyo · 27/09/2021 02:56

Today's headline in The Mail Online:

Eco-warriors Meghan and Harry arrive back in California on private jet after VIP tour of NYC. So, were Duchess' OTT outfits, Prince's mystery wire and those cameramen clues that they were secretly filming their Netflix series?

It does seem that the snark was all about the Netflix series.

MissTrip82 · 27/09/2021 02:56

Hahaha.

I wish I was as short, untoned, apple shaped and non-classic as MM.

Don’t really need the DM to tear women apart over nonsense like their appearance when you’ve got MN do you.

ILoveAGlassofFizzy · 27/09/2021 08:41

@Teapiggies

I mean the press are going to rip them because they’re pretty cringey/awful/hilarious.

Harry thinking he’s a philanthropic icon, waxing lyrical about poverty and equality after gaining all of his fame and status from being a Prince in a constitutional monarchy.

Meghan desperately trying to paint herself as an advocate for the poor and disadvantaged while ignoring the cognitive dissonance of trying to squeeze into Hollywood royalty by keeping her aristocratic title that she could just ditch anytime she chooses. She won’t, obviously…

I mean, I’m not easy prey for the Daily Mail and can see when the media are unfairly hounding somebody. But in this case they just give too much material for the press not to make a nasty joke of it.

I agree

"Did a famous pregnant woman use a surrogate? " is the new "Did a famous woman get plastic surgery?" There are people who seem to pour over footage of famous pregnant women and study the shape of their bump as they stand up etc
SleepingStandingUp · 27/09/2021 17:22

The stuff about her using surrogates was just vile and smacked of racism. I think more ageism than racism, as in she's older than she claims and can't carry her own baby. See also comments of her kneeling down and getting up again when she was heavily pregnant with L and a photo where her bump looks weird shaped and a photo where she doesn't look pregnant.

Quite a few celebs get rumours of faking a pregnancy and using a surrogate instead. Beyoncé definitely, Kim Kardashian for her first pregnancy, and I think Kate Middleton as well. It’s often when people think they’re doing pregnancy “wrong” eg when people said that Meghan definitely couldn’t be crouching down like that in heels that late in pregnancy, it’s just not possible! And with Kate I think it was partly how there was no way she could be so skinny so soon after birth, must not have really been pregnant! (She also got negative comments about how she still had a bump the day after giving birth, so there is no way for women to win, they either didn’t “bounce back” fast enough, or they did it too fast and so were never pregnant in the first place) And Beyoncé I vaguely remember a clip where her bump apparently looked an odd shape, and therefore must have been fake Hmm

For people who dislike these women it’s just another stick, with a nice misogynistic tone of “not woman enough” to carry a baby.

rubicscubicle · 27/09/2021 21:15

I have noticed that it's mostly black women who are accused of this.

Nothing wrong with surrogacy and people tend to just say it, not hide it - thinking of SJP here.

It was said of Beyonce - because the fabric on her dress creased up, that is all.

Serena Williams and Naomi Campbell were accused of looking masculine.
Meghan - it was the bending on heels, even here on MN someone posted a silly video of a 'weird noise' as she bent.

Never heard of Kate or anyone else. Must have been buried in the corners of the conspiracy net, but the Meghan one was on the lips of Lady C and royal author Angela Levin.

So yeah, racist af.

What famous person said that about Kate.

As I said, with Meghan it was mainstream people who get invited to panel shows.

I also don't see the point of you linking some conspiracy theories from the bottom feeding back banners of internet that have nothing to do with pregnancy (except for women of colour being accused of something in that). What panelist has ever said these things ?

Jennifer Aniston gets accused of using surrogates and she's not even had any children! That accusation is pretty rife in America.
