What are the papers trying to hint about Meghan?

ohfook · 26/09/2021 08:29

My curiosity is getting the better of me here. I know when papers can't print something, they hint and hint terribly:
-the falling out between the d.o.c & her Norfolk friend

  • comparing the guy who plays lord grantham to Ryan giggs etc.

But I just can't figure out what they're trying to say by banging on and on about the duchess of Sussex's 'unseasonably warm coat'. There's easily been 5 articles in the dm about it. I know I shouldn't care, but I'm bored and sleep deprived so if anyone would like to humour me, I'm all ears!

I should probably add I quite like Meghan and I'm trying to drop my mindless scrolling of the daily Mail so if you're going to slate either party, I'd much prefer that it was the mail!

The Mail are acting like the abusive boyfriend that you finally find the courage to leave, but he can’t get over the fact that your new life is a success. He wants to drag you down and make you pay. Therefore the narcissistic rage drives him to stalk you, comment on every little thing you do and bad mouth you to anyone who’ll listen. Who knows where all this will end?

Plumtree391 · 26/09/2021 09:32

I saw her and Harry on TV on a night out in New York and she is very, very slim. How ridiculous to assume she is pregnant, I doubt very much she and Harry will have more children.

Goodness knows why she was wearing that coat - maybe it was cold in New York on that day? The weather is variable just as it is here.

VaguelyInteresting · 26/09/2021 09:32

It’s a way to draw attention to her body postpartum, and it’s disgusting behaviour. They also ran an article about her taking her coat off and used a picture that showed her as carrying slightly more weight than usual( I mean relatively- she looks great, still slim etc). It’s vile.

They're just taking as many potshots as they possibly can, the most negative angle imaginable. I found myself wondering about the editors working on the stories, the level of bitchery is breathtaking.

MrsFin · 26/09/2021 09:35

@YesIDoLoveCrisps

She won't be pregnant again, they made a big deal out of only have 2 for the sake of the planet I agree. They did say loads of times they won’t have more than two.

They also made a big deal about wanting a quiet and private life!

CatOfTheLand · 26/09/2021 09:38

Some media outlets work like this: they buy the photos then junior reporters have to conjure up new stories about them.

The DM gets, I think, over 60% of their traffic from MM articles.

So a lot of these are just drivel filled with keywords for SEO.

WinnieTheWee · 26/09/2021 09:40

@Williamshatnershorses

In my view, it’s because she’s not playing the ‘my body is back to normal just 3 months after giving birth’ game that so much of Hollywood does. So this is ‘ooh she’s covering up because she FAT’ but of course they’ll never say that implicitly.
This I think. Nasty.
AtillatheHun · 26/09/2021 09:46

The New York post are saying it’s to hide the mics- this whole trip has been cooked up to create content for Netflix; they haven’t been invited, they have leveraged contacts through sunshine Sachs and to promote her book and it’s being filmed / recorded / photographed by their own people (again, NY Post shows which of their staff are there filming etc).
The coats I think are a result of her no longer having a dresser - she borrowed / planned outfits based on it being Autumn and without an experienced dresser to accommodate changes in event / climate, she’s wearing what she planned regardless. I think the white dress must also be borrowed because it hasn’t been altered and therefore looks like a $4,000 sack

JinglingHellsBells · 26/09/2021 09:47

They are just being horrible as always.

The underlying 'dig' is the M is a bit chubby which is hardly an issue 3 months after giving birth.

Then there is the speculation she is pregnant- highly unlikely.

Then there is the criticism of her wearing very expensive clobber when visiting people in poverty. They might have a valid point there.

NewNameADayKeepsSpiesAtBay · 26/09/2021 09:48

Megan with a few pounds of residual baby weight is still absolutely beautiful. I’ve never seen a bad photo of her, she’s gorgeous in every outfit and from every angle.

The stuff she says I have plenty of issues with, but fgs we need to stop attacking and criticising women based on their looks. And I also think the British press are hugely unfair in the way they portray her, I believe her when she says she was mentally ill from it.

Runforthehillocks · 26/09/2021 09:51

I suppose it is a bit odd to be wearing heavy coats when it's quite warm there, but she probably has a contract to wear them, so must. That's all. And as for weight, well she did only have a baby 3 months ago. I'm sure she'll drop back to normal once she stops breastfeeding.

Cactus1982 · 26/09/2021 09:53

The press do this a lot when there’s a story they want to tell but can’t. For example there were loads of weird stories about Matt Hancock out and about with his wife and kids, turns out he was shagging his aide behind her back and had been for some if rumours are true. Likewise lots of stories about Philip Schofield, but I won’t say what was really going on there it’s not hard to find out though 😉

AtillatheHun · 26/09/2021 09:55

I doubt she’s breastfeeding if she left the baby in LA for 4 days.

BiteyCatII · 26/09/2021 09:56

The mail in particular looks to have taken umbrage at H&M for leaving the UK, dissing the royal family on Oprah and in their books and for going ahead with Oprah programme when Philip was dying. They think they are self-important hypocrites jumping on bandwagons so anything they can do to bring them down a peg and remind them and us they aren’t working Royals anymore. Constantly taking a pop at Meghans body and clothes is their go-to method of showing their disapproval of their life choices I think. Kate is set up to be the demure, correct and ideal royal female and Meghan is set up as the brazen, grafting Hollywood D-lister with zero class. I have little time for the royal family but the shaming of its female members (Beatrice, Eugenie and Meghan are the main ones in the firing line) by the press is contemptible.

395h3948 · 26/09/2021 09:57

Nothing. Boris did a major u-turn when it comes to lorry drivers, foreign visas so Daily Mail had to fill/muddy the air and they went with that. Thats literally the only point of all of this. Divert their readers attention towards the Duchess rather than Boris.This isn't even me being cynical but thats the only reason they ran the story

SomewhereInBrooklyn · 26/09/2021 09:58

The mail are obsessed. It’s vile.

I have friends in US who have seen her twice in the last couple of days. They think the photos have been edited as they said Meghan looked very slim. I wouldn’t put it past that bastard newspaper. Not that her weight matters anyway.

LemonSwan · 26/09/2021 10:00

I think they are hinting she is getting clothes for free from designers to sell for Autumn/ Winter.

If I remember there was an argument about that when she first came. She thought she should and could accept everything for free (because its how the celebs work), whereas the royals like to pay for things properly.

UsedUpUsername · 26/09/2021 10:01

@MrsHood

I think they are just trying to suggest that she’s getting it all wrong.

Still got some baby weight - how dreadful

Wearing a coat - must want to hide something

Takes coat off and has a hint of baby weight - shameful

Expensive clothes when visiting deprived areas - bad taste and not like Kate who wears Zara

She cannot do anything right. Poor woman.

Merching

No other excuse for such sloppy tailoring

lnsufficientFuns · 26/09/2021 10:05

White bitching about her weight 🙄

I feel really sorry for her

She does look awful in that white dress
Some of the other outfits she wore earlier in the week were really flattering though

burritofan · 26/09/2021 10:05

So a lot of these are just drivel filled with keywords for SEO.
Drivel is right. I just read one of them (against my better “don’t give the Mail clicks” judgment): the final line was “Harry was said to have ordered a plate of hamburger sliders during the evening”. News!

SomewhereInBrooklyn · 26/09/2021 10:07

She does look awful in that white dress

I don’t think you know what awful means.

Paquerette · 26/09/2021 10:08

@TomBradysLeftKneecap

I live in NY and have been wondering all week what the heck she was thinking when planning her wardrobe. On the day she wore a polo neck and tan winter coat, it was 82° and SO humid, I’m surprised she didn’t faint. My guess is she is trying to steer the narrative away from her post baby body and the media can’t just fat shame anymore so they’re insinuating instead.
I also think this. It’s really strange to be wearing winter clothes when the weather is so warm.
Teapiggies · 26/09/2021 10:09

@IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves

Hinting at possible pregnancy probably. Coat to hide bump.

I do wish the press would leave her alone.

I think that’s the last thing they want judging by their schedule…
amusedtodeath1 · 26/09/2021 10:10

To be fair, the Times Cover was very wíerd and the red outfit??? They have made a point of not playing the media game with MSM and that means they will criticise anything they can. So every extra Lb and every odd expression, fashion fail, etc will be pointed out relentlessly. They sued the DM, so they're not going to go lightly on them.

What I haven't seen mentioned is Harry literally shoving a kid at that school. I don't know why he did it but it looked really bad.

A lot of the public feel quite protective of the Queen after the loss of PP and they are feeling the heat from that.

It will die down eventually if they stop saying negative things and don't whine about their (seemingly) incredibly fortunate lives.

LizzieVereker · 26/09/2021 10:12

Why on earth would she be wearing recording equipment?
