Is this an okay outfit for a wedding?

I'm 22 and have been to 1 wedding but I was a kid. I dont know much about the dos and don'ts for wedding guest outfits.
Is this an alright outfit to wear or is it too colourful? Too short?

@EdgeOfTheSky

In 3m, if that is when the wedding is, it will be the end of December.

In half these dresses if the wedding is in a church you will be so cold you might get mistaken for the star of a funeral.

Winter! Think winter!

A nice red fleece skater dress perhaps?

Actually a very good point. December, these are all very much summer dresses and, apart from anything else, with weddings, there is nearly always standing around outside for photos etc.

And depending on where the ceremony and reception are, they're often draughty or just plain flipping cold!

sonjadog · 25/09/2021 19:31

If the wedding is in 3 months time, then it will be in December? In which case, none of these are suitable as they are all too light. You need to start looking at winter weight dresses that you can wear with a jacket and tights.

[quote Kirby30]I’m mid 20’s and just wore this a wedding if you are keen to stick to something colourful?

The ones I posted are £5.50 each
Do you really think they’ll arrive looking like the photos for £5.50?! Grin

The general rule of thumb OP, is that you're going to a wedding, which is that person's special day. What you wear shouldn't be about putting the attention on you. The first dress you put up isn't appropriate for that reason.

Also no white, ivory, lacy wedding dress-like outfits. Only on MN do people come on here asking is this OK when it's as close to being a pseudo-wedding dress as it gets!

Even if you don't have much experience of weddings you must surely get that concept. Even though you're 22, you can still dress in a way that's smart, attractive, but not "look at me". Cut the bride some slack, it's her day!

A poster upthread put it perfectly "this is a wedding, not a nightclub".

Jeannie88 · 25/09/2021 19:41

Just wear what you want and what is you! As with any celebrations, we all worry too much about what to wear then after a few drinks don't give a f**k! X

Primadonna1 · 25/09/2021 19:42

You are joking about wearing this right ??

Debbacat6 · 25/09/2021 19:46

Definitely not
Yould look like a pornographic unicorn.

I love the left hand photo. That's appropriate and very pretty.
PurpleEchoLamp · 25/09/2021 19:51

Lordy!

Pipsquiggle · 25/09/2021 20:00

General rule for weddings is don't wear white or anything so pale it will photograph as white.

Don't show both boobs and legs. Eg. If you go for a short dress - cover up, up top.

Go online, check out websites that have quite a few shops like River Island so you can try on the dresses.

Happyher · 25/09/2021 20:01

Loved the little bag in your first pics. I would lose the frills on the dresses and go for something a bit less fussy. Remember the bride is the star. Wedding outfits tend to be formal and not too loud. Don’t do really short unless you want the old men leering at you. But choose something that doesn’t stifle your personality and suits your young age

unlikelytobe · 25/09/2021 20:06

Ah, come on now.

Mantlemoose · 25/09/2021 20:07

I love the first and the third one but not the 2nd one - I know you said it isn't white but obviously pale enough to pass. Size wise if you can return order 12/14/16 - depends on the cut. Winter though so you need a decent coat/wrap.

Gandalfsthong · 25/09/2021 20:10

I actually love the vulva bag. Have you had a look on never fully dressed? Some lovely dresses on there… have you thought of having a look on eBay? you can get some lovely good quality dresses on there for peanuts (Ted Baker, needle and thread etc.) and wraps etc

They actually do! I buy from there all the time!

Bossbaby12z · 25/09/2021 20:26

Your 22 I think you should wear whatever you like! If you had turned up with that outfit to my wedding I would have loved it.. colours are beautiful love the bag.

Bugbabe1970 · 25/09/2021 20:26

No it's not suitable

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/09/2021 20:29

The pink lace one. I also think you should go for your current size. If you buy 2 sizes and one is a little big and the other snug but wearable, I’d go for the snug one. Then all you have to do is not put weight on. Weight loss a bonus.

LoisLane66 · 25/09/2021 20:34

NO. Ridiculous and tarty.

From where? The supply chain that would result in a £5.50 dress is likely to have some really serious failings when it comes to ethics likely affecting vulnerable women and kids 😞 if you buy from somewhere 'all the time' please do consider looking into the supply chain, if at all possible.
RugCarpet22 · 25/09/2021 20:36

No.. But then it depends on the type of a wedding you're attending.
If it's a gypsy wedding, then no problem.. But if its a 'typical' wedding then something a bit less showy-offy would be better. Less frilly, less sparkly, a bit longer hem. It's the bridal couple's day so anything that's seen as an attempt to draw a lot of attention from them would be seen as bad taste.. As kind of a very general rule of course..

M4J4 · 25/09/2021 20:36

I’m a size 14, the frilly dress in the OP would look ridiculous on me.

I think the floral nude dress is the best out of the images you have uploaded.
