Names that are never coming back

Beancounter1 · 23/09/2021 18:13

Names that been in common use since about 1850 (so nothing from ancient history like Ethelberger or whatever), that are well and truly dead, as in no babies are likely to be called this now.

How about:
Mildred ?
Edna ?
Mortimer ?

Can you think of any others?

@MintJulia

My elderly aunts were called Violet, Mona and Gertrude.

I'm not sure any of their names will, be back in a hurry

Lots of Violets!

@TheMildManneredMilitant

I could see those old names coming back. Brian? Not so much.
Brian is on our name list but it has a special meaning to us.

Archibald, fanny, Gertrude (don’t know why that last one reminds me of a pickle).

HungryHippo11 · 23/09/2021 19:10

I think the old fashioned ones will come back eventually. The ones I think have died a death, are the names which were popular about 50 years ago

My mam was Ethel, one of her sisters was Hilda. I hope they never come back!
Love Violet.

Another vote for Keith!

Also Alexa, think Amazon have ruined that

Mariell · 23/09/2021 19:16

Naomi. I’ve never met a baby or a small child called Naomi in at least thirty years.

Bernadette, Beverley and Georgina also seem to have disappeared.

I know a couple of young girls called Naomi. The youngest is about 2. I like the name a lot :)

Balonz!! (I hope, anyway!)

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 23/09/2021 19:21

Gordon! I'd be very surprised if anyone knows a young or baby Gordon.

Finknottlesnewt · 23/09/2021 19:22

Aeneas

Poor man in our church choir.. but aged 60 in 1980 .. despite it being the name of a Greek Hero the pronunciation is so tricky .. it should never never be foisted upon another individual.

StuntNun · 23/09/2021 19:24

You don't see many babies named Gaylord these days. Shame really, it used to be a very popular name.

PumpkinCrumble · 23/09/2021 19:24

I’m sure I read the name “Dean” was critically endangered.

Nor many girl babies being called Gaynor or Gaye
hennybeans · 23/09/2021 19:26

Bertha- although I don't know if that's more of an American name. Not heard of many in the UK. I had a great aunt Bertha, born in Arkansas in the 1920s. Sadly, the name suited her really.
