Whether solo or as a duo.

Paul Simon - Slip Sliding Away and Under African Skies.

Art Garfunkel - I Only Have Eyes For You and Since I Don't Have You.

S&G - The Only Living Boy In New York and A Hazy Shade Of Winter.

I confess I'm not a big fan of Paul Simon's solo stuff. By and large, the two were better as a duo.

Paul Simon - The Obvious Child

Agree that I Only Have Eyes For You is probably my favourite one of Art's.

Can't choose out of the ones they did together - so many! Probably either America or Hazy Shade Of Winter.

I really like Paul Simon's solo stuff actually. Well, a lot of it is not really solo. He chose his collaborative partners well!

S&G American Tune (live in central park)
In fact that album is one of my all time faves.

S&G America

S&G Slip Sliding Away.

Paul Simon, Mother and Child Reunion.
Makes me cry.

Paul Simon, Hearts and Bones.

Oooh so many.

Graceland.

The Boxer

Both are very emotive for me.

I've not heard any of Art's solo work.

I was lucky enough to see Simon and Garfunkel live, then years later, Paul Simon. Both amazing concerts I will never forget.

Favourite songs - so many but probably
America
Sound of Silence
The Boxer
Still Crazy After All These Years.

LifesNotDoneYet · 21/09/2021 08:46

Wednesday Morning 3am has always been my favourite. Closely followed by The Boxer.

ODFOx · 21/09/2021 08:50

Together: For Emily
Separately. They are all ok but no real stand outs IMO

garlictwist · 21/09/2021 08:54

America - without a doubt. Such an evocative song that really captures a journey.

I love the line "Kathy, I'm lost, I said, though I knew she was sleeping".

3of5 · 21/09/2021 08:59

Oh a thread I actually have opinions about!

Simon & Garfunkel

A Simple Desultory Phillipic (and if you think I googled the title you are absolutely right )

For Emily

My Little Town

Paul Simon

Have a good time (I love the lazy drunkenness of this)

One mans ceiling is another mans floor (I like the piano)

Take me to the Mardi Gras

Kodachrome

Art Garfunkel

Bright Eyes (family joke about how it'll make me cry every time... bloody rabbits)

All I Know

I only have eyes for you

3of5 · 21/09/2021 09:02

Also I have also seen S&G and Paul Simon live and they were both amazing - in my top 5 of all time concerts

ApplesinmyPocket · 21/09/2021 09:08

I played the death out of S&G albums when I was young

America (has any song eve captured the 'feel' of America better? )
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme
I am a Rock
Sounds of Silence
Bridge over Troubled Water - bit of a cliché, but I still find it a very calming song

ApplesinmyPocket · 21/09/2021 09:15

America - without a doubt. Such an evocative song that really captures a journey.

Yes garlictwist exactly! And the moon rose, over an open field...

Hoping to find some pithy phrase encapsulating why this is such an evocative song, whether or not you have travelled through America, I found this article about the song and a quote from Sting, who performed it live himself:

"In a preamble to one performance, he explained how the song spoke to the sense of “wonder and foreboding” he felt when first touring the US ."

Yes!

We played The Art Garfunkel album over and over on a road trip in Australia in 1989 so it brings back incredibly fond memories.

Love the folk songs, April Come She Will, Scarborough Fair. For Emily and Hazy Shade of Winter.

FlatteredFool · 21/09/2021 09:35

Alexa is currently shuffling their songs. I was about 5 when I first heard them and always associate the album with a holiday in Cornwall then along with a trip to Carlisle as a young teen and all sorts of memories. The Zoo was a favourite at uni.

FlatteredFool · 21/09/2021 09:42

Holding back the tests now. Homeward Bound always gets me.

NapoleonOzmolysis · 21/09/2021 09:43

I like this version of BOTW where they both sing.

Kathy's Song and the Boxer otherwise.

I do love Call me Al for the line "Why am I soft in the middle, the rest of my life is so hard" and Gracelands for "And I see losing love is like a window in your heart. Everybody sees you're blown apart, everybody feels the wind blow. "

WildRosie · 21/09/2021 09:49

Art Garfunkel has had two solo number ones in the UK. I don't know how I Only Have Eyes For You fared in the USA but Bright Eyes sank without trace there.

Ive recently been listening to their concert in Central Park. Absolutely brilliant.

GlitchStitch · 21/09/2021 09:51

Homeward Bound
The Boxer
America
For Emily
Kathy's song

Not as much of a fan of their solo stuff but together they were amazing.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 21/09/2021 09:52

Paul Simon was taught Scarborough Fair (a traditional English ballad) by Martin Carthy. He then copyrighted it as an S&G composition. Thieving git. Angry

There's a Sky Arts documentary about the making of Gracelands where Paul sits through and talks about the lyrics and music of each song.
