Whether solo or as a duo.

Paul Simon - Slip Sliding Away and Under African Skies.

Art Garfunkel - I Only Have Eyes For You and Since I Don't Have You.

S&G - The Only Living Boy In New York and A Hazy Shade Of Winter.

I confess I'm not a big fan of Paul Simon's solo stuff. By and large, the two were better as a duo.

@Peggytheredhen

I also love the Horrible Histories Viking and & Garfunkel song Smile
THANK YOU!

I hadn't seen this yet (my children are only just old enough for HH) and it is perfection.

Have you got bbc2 on now?

CharleyMarley · 09/10/2021 21:41

I only really listened to s&g and never them solo, so my choices are:

7 o'clock news/silent night
The boxer

Oh thanks for this thread - for some reason I haven’t listened to them forever.got America blaring out now.

I played so much of their stuff as a teen (probably 15 years or so after release) and loved it all.

@leavesthataregreen

When we went to NYC I actually booked tickets to Newark not La Guardia just so we could drive in over the New Jersey Turnpike and count the cars... Blush I am so in love with that song.
Love this

For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her. It's just so intensly beautiful, goosebumps all over.

Graphista · 09/10/2021 23:10

Agree with so many of these but kinda surprised not one other person has named

So long frank Lloyd Wright

I mean seriously who else has written an ode to an architect?!

I do also love

The boxer
Call me al
Under African skies
Bright eyes

And I must admit cecilia which is also not a favourite on thread but holds lovely memories for me of dad and my siblings and I all singing it together when we were kids

toomuchlaundry · 09/10/2021 23:18

A Bridge Over Troubled Water. This was playing on the radio when my best friend phoned to tell me her dad had died, she was only 21. It has always made it more poignant for me.

DerAlteMann · 09/10/2021 23:25

As S&G Richard Cory.

Nothing either of them ever did solo was as good as when they were together.

BrennieGirl · 09/10/2021 23:36

Too many brilliant songs to choose from.

But one of my favourite lines from a song is from Kathy's Song ... "and as I watch the drops of rain weave their weary paths and die, I know that I am like the rain, there but for the grace of you go I."

The Concert in Central Park is one of my all time favourite albums. I had it on cassette for years and then bought the cd in a record shop on Bleeker Street on my first ever trip to New York. DH managed to track down a DVD copy of it for me last year.

middleager · 09/10/2021 23:41

Watching the Central Park gig on BBC2 now.

So many beautiful songs.

America
Kathy's Song

But all of them, really. My parents had their records so their songs are part of the soundtrack of my childhood. My kids were very dismissive and called them 'Simon n Grunkle' but grudgingly admit there are a couple of tracks they like
