Silkie, DH and DS have been ordering shower soap from a company called the Dollar Shave Club and it's very nice. They sell razor blades primarily but now do all sorts of personal care items. I don't know if they do business in the UK or not, but DH loves them.

And speaking of bathrooms, I've just ordered new bathroom rugs as the old ones have been through the wash so many times the edges are fraying. We replaced the bath towels last spring, and Lands End has non-skid rugs in matching colors.

Supima Cotton Non-skid Large Bath Rug 23" x 39"

In our case, the color is the Light Lake Blue, which almost perfectly matches the paint in the bathroom.

We have tried more cake from that excellent bakery at the corner. They only have about six different cakes and when they are gone they are gone.

When I switched from liquid shower gels back to proper soap years ago I gave everyone their own soap dish and soap, to avoid having to rescue my lovely lemon soap from messy teens. Grin

Silkieschickens · 27/10/2021 02:59

When mine were little they loved the lemon shaped lemon soaps from France but they used to bounce around the bathroom. Just looked them up again and they come with a special soap holder. And they also have lavender. Silkiecat loves all things lavender, DH says she is like an old English lady.

Silkieschickens · 27/10/2021 03:01

Laptop is in for repair but cant get it before 6 November, sobs, so just my tablet to use now. DH and DD did not get school skirts or a hairdryer. Dh made me roast potatoes and veg with gravy as its one of a few things I can eat.

I'm getting new bathmats for Christmas Smile MissC possibly in a cherry pink but more likely in utilitarian white. We've all been commenting on how ragged the old ones look. I like the 'hotel style' ones that look like a towel. Also on my list is a set of new shower curtain rings with hooks on both sides. We have a shower head in the bath so need a liner and curtain and I'm fed up of having to unhook the current fiddly curtain rings to take out the liner and replace it periodically. With the new rings I'll be able to just unhook the liner.

I stopped buying shower gel a few years ago too, Prokup. The soap I buy lasts ages and hasn't given anyone a rash, always a plus.

I'm trying to sell my big old SUV, 2003 vintage. So far I have a 7-day guaranteed offer that comes in $15 above a price I was offered last January (before the check engine light began to appear). I was offered $200 by another place in August based on honest answers online to questions about rust. Sadly, the good offer is from an auto wrecker, but my car has 127,000+ miles on it and needs work, so I think it would end up being scrapped anyway in the near future. I intend to thank it, Marie Kondo style.

Just a quick catch up, work has been manic in the office the last 2 days but working from home today.

It's DD2 week to stay with me, me and exW alternate week on week off so tonight we are off out with DD1 to see Six the musical

Update for the duck lovers, they are currently sleeping on the patio

HelenaJustina · 27/10/2021 10:52

Lazy start to the day here. I’ve just wept my way through the second half of the book ‘Rilla of Ingleside’. We also need to go shopping Silkie DC1 has no hand-me-downs to grow into and there are odds and sods required by the other DC. Need to summon the enthusiasm to get them all dressed and out of the door.

Silkieschickens · 27/10/2021 11:16

Glad the ducks are happy. Silkiecat is living the dream, eating tuna from her cardboard box.

Good luck with the shopping Helena I tend to do a lot of online shopping or at least click and collect as DS hates shopping and always says he needs nothing and DD always wants the entire shop.

Was ill again all last night but at least can eat and sleep inbetween but had a terrible headache and getting a new cough. DH just said to think about happy things so I am looking up Christmas trees and decorations, keep thinking about them. DHs Mum has a problem with her knee.

Gingerwarthog · 27/10/2021 15:27

Silkie - on the Christmas bauble note...a colleague's fiancée has just made some for me -sparkly pink, silver, with everyone's names on them. Wartycat's has whiskers and ears.
Wartycat has had a claw clip today. He was very brave and the vet called him a good old lad.

HelenaJustina · 27/10/2021 16:10

Feeling cold-y and had a text from a colleague saying that another colleague (who I saw briefly last Thursday) has tested positive. Lft inconclusive so have been down to the nearest drive through for a PCR. Isolating in my bedroom/en-suite while I wait for the results. I’ve seen family and friends in the last two days so desperate for it to be negative. ASD DC1 has predictably hit the roof as plans have been disrupted (this is not okay) and they also don’t cope well with uncertainty. So that’s nice to have to try and deal with through a closed door.

Trying to think of productive things I can do while stuck in here… DC2 brought me a cup of tea and a dark chocolate and ginger biscuit which I could taste and was delicious. But I’m getting bored already!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/10/2021 16:37

Lots of people from my office are off sick.
With covid? I hear you ask.
No - with the plain old 'seasonal infection' people used to get 'in the olden times'.

I will now bake 24 chocolate-dot muffins for DS's birthday.

Silkieschickens · 27/10/2021 16:54

Hope your DS has a lovely birthday Prok chocolate muffins sound great.

Hope you escape Helena and are free of isolation soon.

Thats good Wartycat has his own bauble Ginger Glad I am not the only one planning Christmas this early, think this is what isolation boredom does to you, you plan Christmas and 101 house renovation projects.

Dd has gone out socialising for fourth day in a row, DH gave her money from her great aunt in France for her 16th she was very happy with. Had hot dogs for lunch and some Miam sweets but they had already been raided. DH said he didnt know who but I know it would be DS as DD would have taken whole packet.

mathanxiety · 27/10/2021 22:42

Parted with the old car today after a delay getting out of the house while I took my desk apart looking for the title. The office area in the junkyard was clean, they were efficient with the paperwork, they checked that the car had no vital parts missing, and paid in cash with an extra $75 for driving it on its final trip myself. Hoping its parts will live on in many Hondas. They also sell used cars so perhaps it can get fixed up and kept going. I said thank you, and remembered to take the CD out of the slot before turning off the engine.

Dcat attacked me when I was trying to tie the laces on my boots this morning. We played a game DS calls 'tooth and nail' for a while. She did this a lot when she was a kitten. She also attacks us when we reach into the box of fizzy water cans.

Silkieschickens · 28/10/2021 03:54

We had salmon, new potatoes and peas for dinner which was very successful as DS loves plain food, Silkiecat loves fish and DH and I like it. DS left some of his fish for Silkiecat, the two of them get on very well now as DS leaves food for Silkiecat a lot. DD was too busy socialising to eat with us.

StartingAgain6369 · 28/10/2021 06:58

Quick update regarding last night, took both DD to see SIX the musical

Fantastic show, if you have got school aged children learning about Henry VIII or even if you just want a good old night out it's well worth seeing

We was even naughty on the 1hr+ drive home and stopped for a cheeky late night MaccyD

Gingerwarthog · 28/10/2021 10:32

DD loves Six the musical and sings the Ann Boleyn song a lot (most memorably with her big cousin for a karaoke fest). DD is high soprano - cousin is all about the bass...

In other mundane news treated myself to perfume for the first time in a long time. Armani 'Diamonds'. Sprayed it in the shop, loved it on me. Had never registered it before. Had sort of stopped wearing perfume during lockdown.

HelenaJustina · 28/10/2021 12:54

No escape from isolation for me, PCR came back positive. Feeling much more fluey and generally unwell today. Going to try for a shower in a minute. DH has taken all the DC out for a PCR, a couple had already done lateral flows this morning which were negative so here’s hoping we’ve broken the transmission chain in time.

Feeling super guilty about bringing this into the house and causing the DC so much upset and potential disruption. But I’ve worked in a school since the pandemic started, not missed a day. And the DC have been to school and done swimming, Scouts, gymnastics, horse riding, dance classes etc whenever these were running, it’s really just surprising that none of us had it before now.

MissConductUS · 28/10/2021 14:11

Helena, sorry to hear about your positive test results. Don't overdo things. Since you're vaccinated you may not be shedding a lot of virus. Don't feel guilty about catching it. Covid is a sneaky bugger and I've seen people catch it despite really strict infection control protocols.

Math, it's a bit sad retiring an old car, isn't it? I remember feeling that way when we traded in my old 2009 Forester in 2019.

I've never heard of Six the Musical. I guess it's not on this side of the pond yet.

Sorry to hear you have covid Helena Its quite hard to avoid here unless you hibernate, think its 1 in 55 with it this week in England ONS said. I wouldn't feel guilty you have only been working and doing superMum things. Hope you dont get too ill with it and the rest of you can avoid it or not be too ill at least. I found cold and flu tablets good when you are fluish and hot lemon drinks.

The musical sounds good Starting I have a 16 and 14 year old but they would be more interested in McDonalds than musicals. They both love maths, computing etc.

Had to cancel my dentists appointment as I am not well still, not sure when I will be able to do it but at least as you have to go private now you can get them quickly. Looks sunny outside.

MissConductUS · 28/10/2021 16:32

So now we have two confirmed covid cases on the thread. Not good at all.

In other news, my light lake blue, Supima non-skid cotton bath rugs have shipped. Lands End is very efficient. I'll probably receive them on Monday.

OP posts:
StartingAgain6369 · 28/10/2021 16:41

@Silkieschickens hope you start to feel better soon

If you're UK based you will have more options privately than NHS based dentistry and I'm talking appointment and treatments

I can't see a fix for NHS dentistry coming anytime soon unless a serious amount of money is thrown at the service from HM Gov

MissConductUS · 28/10/2021 16:51

This is a bit exciting. I've just had an email from UPS telling me to expect the rugs to arrive tomorrow.

I am watching the post count in case anyone is concerned.

Silkieschickens · 28/10/2021 17:04

Thanks Starting Yes I'm in England and I fell off the NHS list in pandemic and now the nearest NHS I can get is 40 miles away and it says over 600 new NHS patients are ahead of you and is rated 2/5 so its more to make a point than to ever get an appointment. Thankfully DH and the kids are still on though they need to be careful they don't get knocked off, DH phoned for their next appointment and insisted on all 3 at once and after 4pm so got 1 June 2022 which doesn't work as its DDs GCSEs but I also think it may take them out of 2 years. We did get DDs orthodontist on NHS after 5 years on lists though for braces. I saw I have 1 tooth going black in the middle so I do need to get seen but need to be long covid free first.

I was moaning to DH about needing to eat bland foods as ill and bored of them and every time I suggested a meat Silkiecat said meow. Might try steak in red wine sauce, new potatoes and vegetables tonight as I am fine with sugar (well apart from my teeth Grin hence my dentist avoidance)

I have noticed whenever DH (French) goes to the shop for haribos he always comes back with French sweets like Frutella and Miams.

I looked at bath maths in Dunelm and saw they have a reindeer Christmas one which I was tempted by but then decided would look silly in summer.

HelenaJustina · 28/10/2021 17:30

Feeling really quite rough this afternoon, the rapidity of onset has been quite disconcerting. Hoping I get off much more lightly than you @Silkieschickens ! Just waiting for PCR results for the rest of the tribe. Thank you for all the sympathy!

MissConductUS · 28/10/2021 18:17

Helena, do you have any vitamin D in the house? It can't hurt. I'd do 5000iu per day.
