@Alk19 so is the Carer’s Element paid weekly and not monthly within our usual UC payment? x

Alk19 · 09/11/2021 08:07

@3Hearts1Beat no this is carers allowance it gets took pound for pound out of my UC but is paid weekly I'm still waiting on my backdate of UC for the carers a disabled element.
They will more likely be on to me in a couple of days about my overpayment when my carers allowance gets backdated!

3Hearts1Beat · 09/11/2021 08:22

@Alk19 oh I see, I thought it was the Carer’s Element lol. So, you can apply for both Carer’s Allowance and the Carer’s Element? I was told it’s either one or the other but not both. x

Alk19 · 09/11/2021 08:26

@3Hearts1Beat yeah course you can apply for both it's just carers allowance gets took out of your UC but gives better towards pension x

Ltb17 · 09/11/2021 08:28

@Alk19 that's great, at least it's sorted. I've literally just had a message on journal from uc telling me they have calculated my backpayment but they have to escalate for a decision because I notified them late. I literally called them 5 minutes after dla text me to say he had been awarded 🙄

3Hearts1Beat · 09/11/2021 08:47

@Alk19 ok, thanks for telling me. Honestly it’s so confusing and even themselves over at the DWP just feed you with such nonsense, it’s ridiculous. I’ll be going for the Carer’s Allowance today then. Wish me luck! Lol x

3Hearts1Beat · 09/11/2021 08:49

@Ltb17 It was the same with me, they’re so annoying honestly and it’s so silly because they put so much emphasis on you informing them of any changes in your circumstances ASAP, yet they still penalise you even when you have done your part 🙄. But don’t worry, it’ll will work out for you hun x

Jneill2021 · 09/11/2021 09:22

What is careers element as I've never heard of it I already claim careers allowance so could I still claim careers element? I'm new to universal credit only been on it a few months x

Ltb17 · 09/11/2021 09:34

@3Hearts1Beat I honestly don't understand how they can be so clueless. They even wrote on my journal the day I notified them that as the award has only just been made it wasn't showing on their system yet, so there's proof there that I notified them immediately. They've already worked out how much they owe me but now its got to be escalated, any excuse to delay paying what they owe me but if I owed them money they would expect it sorted immediately. It's just so frustrating, you wait long enough to find if you've been awarded in the first place and then you hit another brick wall!

Alk19 · 09/11/2021 09:37

@Ltb17 I've still not heard anything of universal credit they've got till the 12th then I'll be ringing them haha x

Alk19 · 09/11/2021 09:40

@Jneill2021 yeah you should be able to you just have to make a change of circumstances on your uc journal it's like £140 a month or something like that x

CloMo1995 · 09/11/2021 09:45

Hi, wondering if anybody can help. I was just wondering roughly how long it takes to recieve a decision after receiving the letter to say sorry "it's taking to so long"? They recieved my sons forms on the 13th if september but got a text on the 17th to say that they had recieved them. Then yesterday I recieved a letter dated the 1st of this month to say sorry its taking so long, I know it's not 8 weeks until friday but I didnt think they sent these letters out until after it had been 8 weeks xx

Jneill2021 · 09/11/2021 09:48

@Alk19 thank you, so I should be able to claim it even though my daughter only recieves mrc lrm ? As I'm still waiting to hear about my sons claim x

Jneill2021 · 09/11/2021 09:50

@CloMo1995 I'm not sure mine was scanned 28th Sept, I've seen a few people say once they received a letter it was only like a week after maybe give them a call for an update they might say it's with decision maker x

Alk19 · 09/11/2021 10:22

@Jneill2021 yeah of course do you get the disabled child element in uc? My son only gets mrc and he gets them all x

CloMo1995 · 09/11/2021 10:55

@jneill2021 I gave them a call last week as I didnt think to check when I actually recieved the text off them and I thought it was about 8 weeks, for them to tell me it was on week 7 and decisions are taking between 9 and 12 weeks, so I dont want to ring and seem like a pest lol!! X

Jneill2021 · 09/11/2021 11:00

@CloMo1995Lol they don't keep track on when you phone anyway just incase you wanted to ring x

Jneill2021 · 09/11/2021 11:06

@Alk19 yes I already recieve the disabled child element, with the careers element do they deduct it from your uc as they do careers allowance x

Alk19 · 09/11/2021 11:14

@Jneill2021 no the carers element goes in on
top of your UC award x

Jneill2021 · 09/11/2021 11:16

@Alk19 thank you x

Lrc11 · 09/11/2021 12:23

I updated my journal on the 22nd Oct to tell them my daughter had been awarded mrc and lrm. Got a commitments review.on 5th November, no word on anything to do with DLA. Called UC was told to update change of circumstances AGAIN with date DLA was awarded from and put another message in my journal which I did. Did they respond when you put a message in or just ignore.you like they are doing with me??

Nic247 · 09/11/2021 12:35

@Lrc11 yep! I'm always ignored. After multiple messages I rang them this morning. Apparently my backpay is being calculated right now and I should hear by the end of today

Alk19 · 09/11/2021 12:47

@Lrc11 did you do the change of circumstances? When I did it back in august I got it in my September payment but I'm still waiting on the backdated payment 3 months x

Alk19 · 09/11/2021 12:48

@Nic247 when did you let them know? Mines been escalated 4 x already I did mine 16th august it's been through case managers service centres and everything and still nothing x

Lrc11 · 09/11/2021 12:58

I put my change of circumstances in on 28th August but was awaiting decision. Got a payment on 5th and nothing had changed. Girl I spoke to yesterday was as much use as a chocolate teapot. I'm still being hauled in for work focused interviews when I'm a full time carer. I swear UC is the worse thing in the world
