@Alk19 one rate is for over 3's and the other is for over 5's I believe.
Although when his claim was done there was only 6 months before he turns 5 which is when you can claim it anyway so not sure why they have done it separately for me. It's really irritating tbh because now I've got to fill out another stupidly long form and again await a decision and I won't even get started on universal credit!! They just ignore you all the time!!

Jneill2021 · 02/11/2021 14:14

@Alk19 you can get mobility from 3yr but that's only for hrm I heard its pretty hard to be accepted for mobility at 3, at 5yrs old you can claim either low rate mobility or high rate mobility, they should send you the forms a couple months before your child turns 3 or 5 definatly apply for it as my daughter recieved no mobility at 4 years old but just before she turnt 5 was accepted for lrm x

3Hearts1Beat · 02/11/2021 14:16

Hi Everyone,

So I contacted DWP this morning for an update on DLA Claim as it’s officially 9 weeks today and the really lovely advisor I spoke to said he’d make contact with the Decision Maker and ask for them to make a decision ASAP. I’m assuming he did just as he said he would do because I’ve just received a text message from DWP to say that my child qualifies. I then called them after receiving that text message and I finally got through to an advisor who told me that my child has been awarded HRC and LRM. So shocked as I wasn’t expecting such news but really happy that the wait is finally over.

Jneill2021 · 02/11/2021 14:16

@Ltb17 you just fill in the mobility part of the form as there should be an option that you tick that your child's care needs have not changed there for you won't have to fill the full form in just mobility I remember doing it for my daughter and it was so much easier just filling in the mobility x

Ltb17 · 02/11/2021 14:29

@Jneill2021 yeah I did just double check it and I see that if they haven't changed then you don't have to do anything. Not sure what to do really as he's already been awarded high rate care but in the last few weeks things have changed. He's now suddenly becoming aggressive towards literally anyone, I hate to admit this but he was due his flu Nasal spray at school last week and the nurse when to give it to him and he punched her in the face!! He then for the rest of the day at school was attacking other children and trying to pull radiators off the wall and throwing stuff at people. (Makes me cry just writing that) I don't understand where its come from, the paediatrician he saw said she thought he might have adhd but he's too young to be diagnosed, I'm not sure if that's what's causing it. I don't know whether I need to tell them this is happening or not?

Mumoflewbielew · 02/11/2021 14:35

@Tfutcher have you had a letter or received a payment? They signed for mine week after yours

Jneill2021 · 02/11/2021 14:40

@Ltb17 I wouldn't as thats Care needs and he already recieves hrc so wouldn't make it change would just mean filling all them dreded forms in again, any thing new with mobility make sure you include with the way he would act in public even down to the way a child walks for example my son sometimes walks with a limp that affects his balance also with his feet either facing in or out every little detail will help x

Tfutcher · 02/11/2021 14:41
@Tfutcher have you had a letter or received a payment? They signed for mine week after yours
I received a letter this morning, but not received any payment yet

Alk19 · 02/11/2021 14:42

@Ltb17 uc are a joke I told them 16th august still waiting for backpay Hmm

Boof23 · 02/11/2021 16:02

@3hearts1beat that's really good ours is coming up to 10 weeks and still no decision as of yet 🙄 I just want to know either way lol

Ltb17 · 02/11/2021 16:17

@Alk19 I just want them to confirm they have added is disability entitlement to the universal credit but they can't even do that!

Alk19 · 02/11/2021 16:37

@Ltb17 no they won't confirm it but I did mine 16th august and received it in my next pay which was September but the back payments another story haha

Ltb17 · 02/11/2021 16:40

@Alk19 I think I'll call them tomorrow and make sure they've actually added it because either really don't have much faith in them. I know carers allowance is a really long wait at the moment. We also applied to family fund but not heard anything from that yet either

3Hearts1Beat · 02/11/2021 17:35

@Boof23 honestly I’m not even surprised to hear that yours is 10 weeks, I’d keep calling them everyday to really turn the pressure, especially as you applied even before I did cause I’m 9 weeks exactly today… I literally called them everyday when my 8 weeks was up, cause technically once you hit the 8 weeks mark, you have the right to call everyday if you want to (even though they try and tell people otherwise 🙄) I mean with all due respect it’s not our fault that they have a huge backlog. Hope it goes quick for you hun. x

Alk19 · 02/11/2021 18:08

@Ltb17 yeah I'm still waiting on carers allowance family fund are taking a while to I had my phone assessment about 3 weeks ago with them they said I probably will get it just have wait for confirmation

3Hearts1Beat · 02/11/2021 19:35

Can anyone confirm if this is true? I applied for the Carer’s Element from UC back in August and still awaiting to hear but UC are just incredibly pathetic to say the very least. But the last time I called them, the advisor I spoke to, told me that you have to be getting Carer’s Allowance in order to get the Carer’s Element from UC otherwise they just don’t consider it, I told her she was wrong but she seemed pretty adamant. Can anyone please kindly advise? Thank you.

Alk19 · 02/11/2021 20:38

@3Hearts1Beat no you don't cause you can claim carers element if you don't qualify for carers allowance x

Alk19 · 02/11/2021 20:39

@3Hearts1Beat as long as the person your caring for gets DLA you get carers element x

LKKT · 02/11/2021 21:20

What’s family fund? No heard of that before. My claim is 9 weeks tomorrow they got my forms on 1st of September. Lady I spoke to last week told me to ring back in 2 weeks!!!! So I don’t dare call again lol x

Alk19 · 02/11/2021 21:31

@LKKT they're a charity you can apply to for help towards items you may need and holidays there really good but as with everything it's a long wait x

LKKT · 02/11/2021 21:34

@Alk19 oh right that’s good to know thanks, are you any further forward with UC yet x

Alk19 · 02/11/2021 21:58

@LKKT I've had nothing from them just the usual no time frame it's such a joke 16th august so nearly 3 months now Confused

3Hearts1Beat · 02/11/2021 22:22

@Alk19 thanks hun, I knew she was talking absolute rubbish. That link, you shared is really helpful, thank you. x

3Hearts1Beat · 02/11/2021 22:24

@Alk19 I’m going to call UC again tomrw morning because just like you I also applied for the Carers Element back in August, on the 6th to be precise and still nothing. I’ll let you know how I get on. x
