That’s ridiculous! If you owed them thought they’d had cancelled the claim. It’s not right!

Hannm123 · 26/10/2021 12:14

When I asked how long it takes at the beginning of the week they replied and said a decision maker usually takes around 28 days 🙄x

Hi everyone I'm looking to do a change of circumstances for my daughter just wondering when showing that a child has a echp would I have to send them the whole plan or just the letter stating the child has been accepted for the echp x

LovingLanz5 · 26/10/2021 21:24

Hi Everyone,
Just some advice please, thank you in advance.
My daughter doesn't have Autism my 19 yo does and i know exactly where your coming from and know how your feeling, just keep pushing for the help you and your child deserves.
My Daughter spent 5 weeks in Birmingham children's hospital over the summer.. 1 day she was a bouncy happy 10 month old to a baby that was having debilitating fevers and couldn't move.. after alot of invasive test, intravenous meds, scans, mri and bonemarrow biopsy was diagnosed with Systemic juvenile idiopathic Arthritis, the worst type.. her liver was was swelled. After 3 days of iv steriods was able to sit up on her own.. its an Autoimmune/inflammatory disease. Life has changed she is on meds high dosages 11 times a day we are at the hospital every week which is costly. We've now had a hospital at home team train us to inject her daily with a biological medication. The steroids which she also takes gives her vile side effects.. its round the clock meds and care her insomnia is awful. Her joints and muscles are swollen and hit every day. She also has hip effusion which causes her discomfort. Im just glad that we got her home b4 her 1st bday. I have applied for dla but i dont know what my chances are of being accepted, just wondering if anyone could give some friendly advice please.

Alk19 · 26/10/2021 21:36

@LovingLanz5 aw I'm so sorry to hear that you are a superwoman! She's very lucky to have you and you sound like your doing a great job :)
Personally I have no doubts that you will qualify for DLA sounds like you give her all the care she really needs.
They go of wether your child needs more care than a 'normal' (I don't like to use that term but it's the only way I can explain) child of their age I hope that helps X

LovingLanz5 · 26/10/2021 21:47

@Alk19 Thank you for your kind response.
I try, its been a rollercoaster physically and emotionally as i have 4 other children, eldest with Autism and Adhd. It was hard being away from them all as they also struggled. My husband and I really had to step up doing day and night shifts the restrictions made it equally difficult.
Most definitely needs more care now than she did b4.. medicines start at 5.30am and continue through to 11.30pm and can give her an extra dose at 2am if needed. Im exhausted tbh but got to keep going. Between going to hospital visits then the hospital at home team. Taking a delivering for a medicine fridge and ppe and other medical supplies for her condition on Thursday. Bless her she can't even have her immunisations due to her medication

Alk19 · 26/10/2021 21:50

@LovingLanz5 oh no you really have got your hands full! Honestly don't know how you managed you must be exhausted but we'd do anything for our kids get all the help you need and deserve! How old is she? X

LovingLanz5 · 26/10/2021 22:15

@Alk19
You're so right, we'd go to the ends of the earth for them.
She was 1 September 3rd.

Alk19 · 26/10/2021 22:35

@LovingLanz5 aww bless her! Still such a small baby she sounds like a right strong one wish you all the best Xx

needtogetfit21 · 26/10/2021 22:44

Maybe not the right place to post but thought I would take my chances

I've been advised to apply for my two children who present with multiple food allergies and immune issues following vaccines, always catching virals and cold etc which indicate possible minor immunodeficiency

They are on 6/7 medications each

To me it doesn't sound like they will qualify.

Anyone have any thoughts?

LovingLanz5 · 26/10/2021 22:51

@needtogetfit21
I was told to apply as my daughter needs more care than her age requires, she also has an Autoimmune/inflammatory disease.
You have to be so careful when they on specific meds as it strips there immune system and they are susceptible to so much, I know exactly what you mean.
There is no harm in applying, im 2 weeks post sending application. All the best

Hi @Jneill2021 I am also about to do a change of circumstances. On the form I received it says to send a copy so I presume a copy of the whole thing.
Jneill2021 · 27/10/2021 09:18

@Pseudonymforme thank you xx

LKKT · 27/10/2021 09:55

Anyone know where they are up to yet? It’s 8 weeks for me today. They received my form on the 1st of September and not sure weather to call to see where they are with it. I got a letter Saturday dated the 19th of Oct saying sorry for the delay.

Jneill2021 · 27/10/2021 10:42

@LKKT I'd give them a ring won't hurt fingers crossed they may have already done it x

LovingLanz5 · 27/10/2021 12:37

@LKKT
Hope you get a positive answer. Xx

3Hearts1Beat · 28/10/2021 09:15

@LKKT Hi, I sent my form off on the 20th August, they received it on the 31st August, then got letter dated 1st September to confirm they’ve received it. Recently received another letter dated 18th October basically apologising for delay. My 8 weeks was up on Tuesday (26th October) so rang them and I was told by the lady on the phone that they’re advising everyone that the timeframe is now 9 to 10 weeks as they’ve received a large volume of DLA Claims and are having to work through the backlog, and that Decision Makers are now also working on the weekends doing overtime. So anyways, I called again yesterday morning and got through to a really lovely man who had told me that my claim had been allocated to a Decision Maker yesterday morning (27th October) and I should be hearing hopefully by end of next week or maybe even sooner depending on where my claim is in the pile of claims that the Decision Maker was allocated. The man, also told me that the Decision Makers get allocated anything between 26 - 30 claims… I was like no way, just couldn’t believe it really. Talk about rambling on lol. Hope this helps x

LKKT · 28/10/2021 09:45

Thanks everyone. Just phoned and they said it’s waiting to go to a decision maker and it should be done in next 2 weeks and call back then. She said they are dealing with the end of august at the moment. She did say call back after 2 weeks because the letters are posted 2nd class so take a while to receive. No wonder it takes so long when they have that many to get through. The wait is gruelling. Xx

3Hearts1Beat · 28/10/2021 09:57

Hi Everyone, does anyone know how long backdating is taking for the Carers Element with UC? I completed the ‘Caring for someone’ section back on the 6th August and have been communicating with them multiple times through my journal only to be kept being told the same thing, that it’s with a Decision Maker. I mean honestly it’s like talking to a brick wall! I’m still also awaiting decision from DLA in order to be able make a claim for the Disabled Element but at this rate I’m even dreading it. Honestly the DWP is just so unorganised. Do I give UC a call or just keep waiting?

Alk19 · 28/10/2021 11:29

@3Hearts1Beat get it escalated I told then back in august it's been escalated 4x as no one responds to me mines gone to case managers now was told they have till the 12th November now x

3Hearts1Beat · 28/10/2021 11:39

@Alk19 oh wow, what on earth are they playing at absolute joke! How do I go about getting it escalated please? As I’ve just rang them this morning and the lady I spoke to on the phone was absolutely useless and totally unhelpful. x

Alk19 · 28/10/2021 11:48

@3Hearts1Beat I just ring and told them no ones responding to me I want it escalated x
