Which food trends are you tired of?

Sriracha on everything. Enough already.

I don't understand this trend for putting biscuits on cakes, in brownies and in chocolate. I could understand it a bit more if it's incorporated into the brownie but often it's just stuck on top.

Burgers that require you to dislocate your jaw in the manner of a python, in order to eat them. I don't have a delicate appetite. I like a good sized burger but some are so ridiculously huge and have so many toppings that you practically need a forklift to get it to your mouth.

What food trends don't you understand?

Large portions.

Gizmo98765 · 12/09/2021 16:11

The fad for menu’s with everything in burgers and names like Filthy or dirty fries, filthy burger etc.

Sleepyquest · 12/09/2021 16:12

Halloumi
Salted caramel should have ended a while ago

SuperSange · 12/09/2021 16:13

Deconstruction of dishes. Just stop it already. An apple crumble, when deconstructed, isn't an apple crumble.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 12/09/2021 16:14

Red velvet. I hate that, it just tastes artificial to me. I am vegetarian and glad that vegans now get more options on the menu but a bit fed up of the fact that so many places now only offer a vegan alternative to the meat dish, especially as some of the things are not particularly tasty and remind me of when I first became vegetarian over 25 years ago.

Brioche buns for everything

oohyoudevilyou · 12/09/2021 16:14

Avocado - mushy texture, little flavour and makes my lips tingle
Brownies - overly sweet, especially their paler offspring; blondies

notenoughcoffeeee · 12/09/2021 16:14

Avocado

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 12/09/2021 16:15

Restaurants whose primary motivation seems to be creating dishes that look good on Instagram, rather than being good to eat.

LeSquigh · 12/09/2021 16:17

Yes! Brioche 🤮. Who wants a burger wrapped with what is effectively an iced bun 🤣. Disgusting.

Dashdotcom · 12/09/2021 16:17

Stuff being served on boards/slates at restaurants, poor waiting staff have to do that awkward push and slide across the table to try and pick it up.

JUST USE A PLATE.

Agree with this - Dirty/Filthy isn't something I want to encounter in a restaurant

RosesAndHellebores · 12/09/2021 16:18

Smashed avocado
Fusion foods

BlancheB · 12/09/2021 16:21

Fake over processed vegan junk food

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 12/09/2021 16:21

Beetroot.

Twilight7777 · 12/09/2021 16:25

Salted caramel, it seems to be in everything, I’m just sick of it!

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 12/09/2021 16:25

Brunch

Massive croissants

Herbs on chips

Skin on chips

nordica · 12/09/2021 16:26

Brownies being served practically raw. Especially any "artisan" type ones.

Maybe need to start selling brownies like steak cooked to order so you can choose to have yours well done if you prefer.

doubleshotcappuccino · 12/09/2021 16:26

Lettuce wraps - used to be obsessed with them until I realised life is too short - just eat the bread.

Hot coffee in a glass mug that's too hot to touch .. wtf?

Onaloop · 12/09/2021 16:27

Avocado
Veggie burgers that are just a portobello mushroom which cost £13!

doubleshotcappuccino · 12/09/2021 16:29

A jus ( pronounce zchoo) of anything - it's a gravy, it's a sauce there's no juice .

Sorry another drink one - cold brew .. so if you stick it in the fridge overnight you can charge double ?

Loving this thread as you can tell thank you ..

Yes, this!

I don't want my food on a wooden board or a slate.

I just want a plain plate and given the fad of serving pasta, kleftiko, risotto etc in the plainest white bowls they can find, I don't see why it should be a problem.

DismantledKing · 12/09/2021 16:32

@WeWantPlates is well worth a follow on Twitter

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 12/09/2021 16:33

@DismantledKing beat me to it. I follow We Want Plates on Instagram.

WhoWants2Know · 12/09/2021 16:34

Jackfruit. And for good measure, I think the whole "pulled pork" business can go as well.

There's little point ordering a "burger" that's just going to flop out of its bun and make a mess on the plate.
