Which food trends are you tired of?

Sriracha on everything. Enough already.

I don't understand this trend for putting biscuits on cakes, in brownies and in chocolate. I could understand it a bit more if it's incorporated into the brownie but often it's just stuck on top.

Burgers that require you to dislocate your jaw in the manner of a python, in order to eat them. I don't have a delicate appetite. I like a good sized burger but some are so ridiculously huge and have so many toppings that you practically need a forklift to get it to your mouth.

What food trends don't you understand?

Urgh, yes, Brioche. Disgusting unless it's breakfast and it's got chocolate chips in it instead of meat juice.

GoodnightGrandma · 12/09/2021 16:38

Meat in brioche buns. For me brioche is a sweet bread and needs jam, not a burger.

GoodnightGrandma · 12/09/2021 16:39

Cold brew 😡 A brew is tea, not coffee.

QueenofLouisiana · 12/09/2021 16:40

Goats’ cheese as the vegetarian option, I’m vegetarian but I don’t like goats’ cheese. I love halloumi, but I am a little over that now too.
Vegan options, but no vegetarian ones. I like the burgers, not keen on the fake cheese. Yes, I know I can eat the vegan ones, but if there are 10 meat choices, surely a few non-meat ones would be ok?

GoodnightGrandma · 12/09/2021 16:41

@oohyoudevilyou

Avocado - mushy texture, little flavour and makes my lips tingle Brownies - overly sweet, especially their paler offspring; blondies
If it makes your lips tingle I’d be concerned that it’s an allergy.
ShowOfHands · 12/09/2021 16:41

I'm a vegetarian and have recently had two short breaks away. One in London and one in Brighton. I don't often eat breakfast but do on holiday. Now I like avocado. I like sourdough. I like poached eggs. But come ON . Offer something else for a veggie breakfast. Smashed avocado is pleasant enough but there are other ingredients out there.

ShowOfHands · 12/09/2021 16:42

Oh yes. Meat options or vegan options only. I am vegetarian. I like eggs and cheese and milk. Meet us halfway.

RosesAndHellebores · 12/09/2021 16:44

Totally agree with brioche buns and pulled anything. It's a slow cooked cheap joint and not worthy of a premium.

Seeline · 12/09/2021 16:44

Vegan stuff everywhere which has overtaken the actual medical needs of things like gluten free food. Just because my DD is not able to eat gluten, she cannot now eat dairy, meat etc as restaurants seem to think just serving food free from anything is OK.

Nitw1t · 12/09/2021 16:49

Sourdough.

No.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 12/09/2021 16:49

Cupcakes
Luckily I think their time is almost over

Ylvamoon · 12/09/2021 16:53

Pulled Pork/ Beef / Chicken

Salted Caramel

Chilli/ Hot Sauce

Fake Meat

Runrigdan · 12/09/2021 16:56

Everything being "pulled".

Its like it's been pre-chewed.

UseOfWeapons · 12/09/2021 16:57

Another vote for vegetarian, not just vegan options. Some of the vegetarian sausages used to be lovely, now they’re vegan they taste like shit.
Kale. Why?
Anything deconstructed is just bloody lazy.
Stupid dips with everything, fish drenched in honey or chilli, or other stuff that totally overpowers the fish.

desperate4spring · 12/09/2021 17:04

@GoodbyePorpoiseSpit

Cupcakes Luckily I think their time is almost over
But cupcakes have been around forever!
Ninkanink · 12/09/2021 17:04

I heartily agree with most of these but I personally don’t think au jus qualifies as a food trend...

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/09/2021 17:04

If I have a burger in a restaurant I take it apart and eat it with a knife and fork. I can't take mouthfuls that big!

Sewaccidentprone · 12/09/2021 17:05

I had a dish in a cafe pre lockdown which listed massaged kale as one of the ingredients.

We all thought this was wtf???

flumpo · 12/09/2021 17:05

Round my way everything is fermented / kimchi/ kombucha obsessed. Could do without it tbh.

wavecatcher · 12/09/2021 17:07

Those grim cake in a mug microwave things. It is not cake it's lazy and gross 🤢

TheDogsMother · 12/09/2021 17:09

@desperate4spring Yes but they used to be called Angel Cakes or Butterfly Cakes and we're lovely and delicate. Not with mounds of claggy, brightly coloured butter icing. Cupcakes can go now.

NotAnotherPylon · 12/09/2021 17:11

Another one fed up with vegan options replacing vegetarian options. This affects DP more than me as, while I prefer vegetarian food, I do occasionally eat meat, but DP doesn't eat meat at all and he is not vegan. Yet it is assumed he'll be ok with a few shreds of cardboard held together with wallpaper paste. Don't get me wrong, many of our favourite dishes, which I've been cooking for years, are vegan, but vegetarians have always been sidelined in restaurants with limited selections and mediocre dishes and now they're sidelined even further by the vegan trend.

breadfortea · 12/09/2021 17:11

pulled pork ...yuk

WhatHappenedToTheLego · 12/09/2021 17:11

Salted caramel

Pulled pork

Serving milkshakes in an unwieldy screw top jar with copious amounts of synthetic cream, sticky sauce, cheap sweets and stale biscuits strewn all over and around it, then charging over a fiver for it. Confused
What happened to a plain milkshake in a glass?

DearFatties · 12/09/2021 17:13

I LOVE nearly all these things!!!
Vegetarian who would happily eat goats cheese and smashed avacado on sour dough with pochard eggs all day long! And undercooked brownies with biscuits on top….the latest food trends are definitely all up my alley
