Which food trends are you tired of?

Sriracha on everything. Enough already.

I don't understand this trend for putting biscuits on cakes, in brownies and in chocolate. I could understand it a bit more if it's incorporated into the brownie but often it's just stuck on top.

Burgers that require you to dislocate your jaw in the manner of a python, in order to eat them. I don't have a delicate appetite. I like a good sized burger but some are so ridiculously huge and have so many toppings that you practically need a forklift to get it to your mouth.

What food trends don't you understand?

Salted caramel - the devil's own work

vestastilly · 12/09/2021 17:14

Haloumi in any Of it’s forms. Used to love it, now I am so over it!

Shelddd · 12/09/2021 17:17

Yeah I agree the vegan push is a little annoying (but completely understand it)... especially since most of the vegan food offered in restaurants now is basically junk food and completely unhealthy... like what's the point of eating vegan when it's just going to take years off your life anyway from all the nasty additives, and nasty vegetable oils to try and make it taste like artificial meat.

I hope the junk/processed vegan food trend dies.

TravellingSpoon · 12/09/2021 17:17

Rocket - everything covered in piles of rocket. No thank you.

tryrantosaurus · 12/09/2021 17:18

Brioche. Absolutely sickening, and society is just ok with it for some reason

tryrantosaurus · 12/09/2021 17:18

As burger buns that is🤮

Cam77 · 12/09/2021 17:18

Kale can be made to be tasty, but it’s tricky to cook. You need to kneed it to soften it.

InFiveMins · 12/09/2021 17:18

@Mariell

Large portions.
I'd say small portions! Fed up of going to a nice restaurant, paying a lot of money and leaving feeling hungry.

I agree with the posters who have mentioned descriptions on menus - I even saw 'sexy chips' on a menu not so long ago in a restaurant - shudders

IngridTails · 12/09/2021 17:19

Homecooking referred to as a 'fakeaway'. I've cooked indian, Chinese, Middle Eastern etc at home since I could cook.

Avocado (usually referred to as 'Avocado Toast', missing out the ON bit) if it's not guacamole I'm not interested.

Grazing platters.

PersonaNonGarter · 12/09/2021 17:21

Fat no to anything ‘Smashed’ or ‘Pulled’

The fermented trend, also wearisome.

Nduja sausage. The worst qualities of black pudding but with extra smug.

Jins · 12/09/2021 17:21

Salted caramel definitely. Who had that stupid idea?
Brioche burger buns should never have become a thing.
I also agree with the pp about gluten free options now being merged with vegan into a sort of multi purpose free from option.

tiredanddangerous · 12/09/2021 17:21

Lotus Biscoff. Disgusting stuff.

Georgyporky · 12/09/2021 17:23

I hate food served on boards etc, & also chips in miniature deep-fryer baskets. How are you supposed to salt them ?
And a paper serviette put on a plate before the food is awful - just why ?

dotdotdotdash · 12/09/2021 17:25

I’m also fed up of vegetarian options being chucked out in favour of vegan.

And please stop putting pomegranate on everything- the seeds are horrid

chocolateorangeinhaler · 12/09/2021 17:26

Anything with oreos in them. People go silly over them yet they taste of absolutely nothing. It's like a joke I'm not getting the punchline to and everyone else does.

Is it the popular because it's popular thing?

Pulled anything. Surprised nobody has bragged about having a pulled salmon sandwich yet.

thisplaceisapigsty · 12/09/2021 17:27

@SuperSange

Deconstruction of dishes. Just stop it already. An apple crumble, when deconstructed, isn't an apple crumble.
Glad you said that - one of my most unsatisfactory puddings in recent years was a deconstructed apple crumble which was basically piles of stuff they couldn't be bothered to put together. It was a posh place as well so I was disgusted. I have held a grudge for years about that.
Lovelydovey · 12/09/2021 17:27

Biscoff spread (though I love the biscuits)
Flavoured coffee
Salted caramel
Freakshakes
Crushed Oreos in things

BrilloPaddy · 12/09/2021 17:28

Yes to the vegan options on bloody menus instead of vegetarian. There is an ocean between the two. And sorry to any vegans but it's a form of punishment eating processed dairy and egg alternatives .... not pleasure.

Sadly I love smashed avocado on sourdough and would eat it happily every day for the rest of my life Grin

DroopyClematis · 12/09/2021 17:29

Fed up of being served food where one item is in a basket and another item is in a tiny dish.
Just shove it all on my plate please.

Ditto salted caramel.

Thai red/green curry seems ubiquitous.

AnnaSW1 · 12/09/2021 17:31

So many placer no longer offering vegetarian options, but loads of vegan options. It's pissing me off

MyrealnameisBernard · 12/09/2021 17:32

I never thought I'd be over halloumi but I am. And I'm veggie and also sick of being directed to vegan fake meat alternatives like all vegans want fake meat. I like vegetables

godmum56 · 12/09/2021 17:32

none really. I rarely eat out and eat what I want at home.

whiteroseredrose · 12/09/2021 17:33

The reverse of Seeline - killing two birds with one stone re vegan and gluten free. I'm trying to be vegan but gluten is fine thanks.

Gluten free stuff is awful

Similarly everything vegan on a menu being fake meat. I don't like meat and chicken. What is wrong with a bean burger or a chilli or curry with pulses? Or even better a posh lentil dish that tastes like lentils??

DearFatties · 12/09/2021 17:34

Also people saying things like ‘fermented’ foods or red curry…they are actually foods of other nations, not random trends…

godmum56 · 12/09/2021 17:34

well but fakeaway originally wasn't the actual real thing but what is served in fast food joints and takeaways
