Which food trends are you tired of?

Sriracha on everything. Enough already.

I don't understand this trend for putting biscuits on cakes, in brownies and in chocolate. I could understand it a bit more if it's incorporated into the brownie but often it's just stuck on top.

Burgers that require you to dislocate your jaw in the manner of a python, in order to eat them. I don't have a delicate appetite. I like a good sized burger but some are so ridiculously huge and have so many toppings that you practically need a forklift to get it to your mouth.

What food trends don't you understand?
@HoldingTheDoor some vegetarian products are gluten free, they’re still not in the free from section it’s the same difference, vegan products are not often safe for me but still get put in my section so it’s double standards
Yeah but there will often be egg free products not safe for those with a dairy allergy. Or gluten free products not safe for those who have an allergy to animal proteins.

The only way this could really be solved would be by separating everything by what they are free of specifically. So a dairy free section, gluten free section etc. The issue isn’t really vegan foods.

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

I might come across as grumpy, but pretty much everything.

Food has turned into a spectator sport and a show of activity. I think it's obscene now, when we are nearing a environmental catastrophe to have all the wasteful cookery programmes and the endless cook books and magazines and to be chasing the newest, most exotic ingredient.

We need to step back and go back to a more utilitarian view on food, I think.

Couldn't agree more! I really struggle to understand the whole obsession with food generally, and OMG the endless cookery programmes.

It's just fuel to me, I mean I enjoy a nice meal like everyone else, but... yeah, pretty much just fuel.

Maybe it's my age, I was a kid in the 70s and 80s, when most food was pretty boring Grin and meals out were a very special thing.

I don’t massively disagree. I’m a huge foodie but prefer as much as possibly to cook with and eat local seasonal food, grown or bred ethically. That does mean a reduced selection of food (and I don’t always succeed!) but it also means that we thoroughly enjoy asparagus or strawberries for example because we only have them for a short time each year.

It doesn’t mean boring food at all.

I do have a weakness for guacamole - I’m trying very hard to avoid avocado given their environmental effect - and I’m sure I can think of many other things that don’t fit the brief that we end up eating! But we do try.
