What is something you said would never do and actually stuck to it?

Mine is smoking

I said I would never smoke and now at 32, I havent.

I was tempted as an older teen because at the time, everyone seemed to be doing it and I wondered why it was so popular, but now I’m glad I didn’t. It’s more common for people to not smoke now

Iron another shirt. DH complained in the first week we were married that I hadn't done it properly. TBF it was more in a "let me do it" way than an actual complaint, but I said I'd never do another and I didn't in 30 years.

DramaAlpaca · 11/09/2021 13:23

Smoking here too.

devildeepbluesea · 11/09/2021 13:24

Buy cards or presents or send thankyous for DH's family. He's a grown adult, he can manage gift-buying himself.

BashfulClam · 11/09/2021 13:31

Smoke, my parents were heavy chain smokers and I despised it. My mum once said ‘you’ll do it if your friends do it to fit in! You’ll be a smoker too’ nope I’ve never smoked (trued it found it disgusting). I always think they look sad huddled in the cold outside because of a cigarette!

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 11/09/2021 13:33

Get involved with a man who had children with someone else and / or been married before.

Blossomtoes · 11/09/2021 13:33

Give my child a dummy.

SmallGreenStripes · 11/09/2021 13:34

I think this is a big reason why I don’t smoke

My mum, dad, sister, both nans, both grandads…. Actually pretty much everyone smokes or smoked

We had to sit in the smoking area at restaurants and bars because they “had to light one up after meal or we can’t enjoy it properly”

The house was always covered in a thick cloud of smoke and everything stank of nicotine

I hated it. Really really hated it. So I never did it

I am married to a smoker but he smokes in the garage so I get away with that.

Eat veal.

When I was doing my A-levels, we went on a residential geography trip to Devon (I know, right) and one day we visited a farm which sent veal calves for export to mainland Europe where they eat veal a lot. The sight of all those calves separated from their mothers, kept in pens in a barn their whole lives and fed milk pellets to keep their flesh pale made me vow to never, ever eat veal in my lifetime.

I would never go near pate de fois gras either. Nor, since my parents once fed me it when I was small and told me it was chicken (I was horrified, and disgusted with them for lying to me), will I eat rabbit.

Drugs
Drink pints

TrueGrit54 · 11/09/2021 13:39

Facebook/Snapchat/Instagram/Tiktok/Twitter don’t have any of these and feel it’s why I am generally happy and on an even keel. DH and two teens (their choice as they are now 15 and 17) are the same so far.

Brollypackedforscottishholiday · 11/09/2021 13:40

Until I was 27 I was adamant I would never marry..
Currently married to dh number 4..
Blush

Hen2018 · 11/09/2021 13:42

Smoke
Take drugs
Plastic surgery or silly drawn on eyebrows etc
Drink (been teetotal for 23 years)
Bottle feed. Not in a snooty way, I just had to be very determined to EBF.

desperate4spring · 11/09/2021 13:42

Make lunch for my DH, unless I am sitting down to eat it with him.
Oh and I've also managed to never shriek at my dc in public.

squashyhat · 11/09/2021 13:42

Have children.

rhonddacynontaf · 11/09/2021 13:43

Do drugs. I've never even had so much of a puff of weed.

Tbh I reckon a puff of weed would probably do me a bit of good every now and then.

SW1amp · 11/09/2021 13:45

@barskits

That form of veal production has been banned in the UK for decades
It still happens in Italy and the Netherlands but if you buy UK-produced veal (often labelled Rose Veal) it’s actually a very sustainable/ethical meat, because it’s the male dairy calves that would otherwise be shot at birth but are instead kept and grown

I listened to a really interesting podcast about it a while ago and now longer have a blanket ban on eating veal, as long as I know it’s British

DustyMaiden · 11/09/2021 13:45

Shout at a child, hit a child, not listen to a child.
