Mine is smoking

I said I would never smoke and now at 32, I havent.

I was tempted as an older teen because at the time, everyone seemed to be doing it and I wondered why it was so popular, but now I’m glad I didn’t. It’s more common for people to not smoke now

Told my DH I would never iron clothes for him. Never have.
Would never get a tattoo, never have. Don't judge those who do but I don't want one.

I don't lie to my kids, ever. It was a thing I struggled with greatly as an autistic child, and while my parents only ever told me little white lies to protect me generally, I found it really confusing and upsetting.

I am very clear with my children about what we are doing and when. My autistic child really appreciates it. Sometimes he doesn't like what I've told him we are going to do e.g. have a haircut, and I guess I could lie to him to get him there but I think the breach of trust would be worse than the temporary cease in discomfort for the sake of the lie. So I say 'We are going to school, then I will take you for a haircut, I know you don't like that but it will be over soon and mummy will stay with you'.

Spend a penny in Tesco. They were clients years ago and I saw some pretty poor corporate conduct towards suppliers and the community IMHO. Vowed never to buy a single thing from them ever again and contribute to their profits. It was mid-2000’s and I’ve stuck to that ever since. Apart from DP buying 4 pints of milk in Aviemore when there was literally no other option, my family is converted too.

Have a baby before getting married. It just felt wrong to me (Catholic upbringing perhaps).
Obvs what others do is no business of mine, but this was something I felt very strongly about.

@barskits

Eat veal.

When I was doing my A-levels, we went on a residential geography trip to Devon (I know, right) and one day we visited a farm which sent veal calves for export to mainland Europe where they eat veal a lot. The sight of all those calves separated from their mothers, kept in pens in a barn their whole lives and fed milk pellets to keep their flesh pale made me vow to never, ever eat veal in my lifetime.

I would never go near pate de fois gras either. Nor, since my parents once fed me it when I was small and told me it was chicken (I was horrified, and disgusted with them for lying to me), will I eat rabbit.

Yes, absolutely.

My mother loved veal. Every time she ate it she'd say I better not think of where it comes from. A lot of my issues with my late mother stem from that phrase...

Pate de fois gras? No, just no.

I'll add frogs legs to the list though.
Has anyone who eats this actually considered what happens to these poor creatures as their legs are ripped off - while they are still alive???

Bontanics · 11/09/2021 14:23

CandidaAlbicans2 · 11/09/2021 14:50

Buy bottled water. When it first came onto the market I honestly wondered who on earth would buy something that we can get from our own taps. And the plastic waste! I know the taste of tap water varies depending on region but there are water filters which can help. But it's a massive industry so clearly there are plenty of people buying the stuff Confused

cptartapp · 11/09/2021 14:54

Bring my DC at any age into our bed. And we didn't. They never ever knew it was an option.

augustusglupe · 11/09/2021 14:56

Smoking and drugs. I've never tried either or wanted to.

clarepetal · 11/09/2021 14:57

Smoke. And although I've never planned it, or made a big thing about it I've never been pissed. I have my reasons but at 42 am quite proud of it.
