The half of our village that has no power has now been told 10pm Friday.

PickAChew · 02/12/2021 12:42

Oh, crikey, oakley 😱

TattiePants · 02/12/2021 15:35

Wow, I can’t believe there will be areas that have had no power for a week!

I’m full of cold and can’t stop coughing. I’m pretty sure it is just a cold but had better send for a PCR just in case.

MrsEWeatherwax · 02/12/2021 18:02

It’s shocking, some houses in Beamish are still off too.
Did anyone listen to Radio Newcastle this morning? There was an amazing woman who had had no electric since Friday night. She was very cutting about the lack of help.
It was snowing again this morning, it must be so cold and depressing and dark.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 02/12/2021 18:26

Rest of the village came back on today!

Not sure what else is off, some places in Weardale came back yesterday but I know there are certainly some hard to reach areas off and I think part of Boldon is still off.

Our village hall has been amazing, it is in the area that came back Sunday night so all week it has been open all day with volunteers ensuring people could come and get warm and charge devices, handing out drinks, filling flasks, making soups and so on.

MrsEWeatherwax · 03/12/2021 10:15

On Go north east the Santa bus route and times are out. Loved seeing it last year.
Hopefully Christmas angel .
Can’t believe it’s now 7 days and some people still have no electric. On the local radio they said HIGH HANDENHOLD still have no power about 10 houses.
Army coming to give help.

TheSilveryPussycat · 03/12/2021 11:26

Yesterday Durham CC declared a major incident, because of people still having no power.

I am childishly excited to check out the Santa bus. And hopeful about the Christmas Angel.

MrsEWeatherwax · 04/12/2021 15:01

Today was a good day, booster ✔️ Christmas Colin the Caterpillar ✔️ Poundland open at Arnison centre ✔️.

PickAChew · 04/12/2021 15:40

When I checked the map, yesterday, I noticed that some of Gilesgate was still without power. Not even remotely remote, unless it's not been updated.

PickAChew · 04/12/2021 15:46

Gone now but our old house is still cut off, by the look of it.

MrsEWeatherwax · 04/12/2021 18:17

I’m sure I heard parts of Sherburn was still off too.

Gilead · 04/12/2021 22:07

Heavy snow this way, not going to help.

TheSilveryPussycat · 04/12/2021 22:41

Where are you roughly, @Gilead?

Horribly cold and damp just north of Durham.

Gilead · 04/12/2021 23:42

Edge of Steel town. We always get snow.

PickAChew · 05/12/2021 00:09

It's pickling down, here. DH is on his way back from his work Christmas party, near Richmond.

PickAChew · 05/12/2021 00:17

Yep. 50 properties.

I'm not enjoying this awful weather!

Hope everyone's ok and no one is impacted by the next storm that's due.

Has anyone been to the new Poundland at the Arnison Centre? Hope they stay open this time as I was disappointed when it left the retail park last time!

Some parts of Northumberland are still without power and some without water still from what I heard on the radio today!

MrsEWeatherwax · 06/12/2021 19:50

I’ve been to new Poundland on opening day, was heaving. Then DH took DD on Sunday and said was heaving. But he’s not a shopper and couldn’t believe how busy the Arnison centre was.
I see the army are out with welfare packs and checks. But it must be horrible, I would have given up and booked a hotel by the second night. Plus I have Christmas food already in freezer so that would have been ruined.

TheSilveryPussycat · 08/12/2021 15:01

I watched Prime Minister's Questions live this morning. MP for Durham asked about people being without power for days, and mentioned Bear Park and Waterhouses by name.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 08/12/2021 15:38

Waterhouses has never been so famous. Any mention of it is usually followed by "where the hell's that then?"

I went to the Arnison today and went to Sainsbury. It was sooooooo busy.

I still feel like I have loads to do before Christmas. I don't deal with stress well.

PickAChew · 08/12/2021 16:13

I pushed the boat out and went to the Galleries, thus morning. Their wilko is so much better than ours but the self checkouts look like a DIY project!

Someaddedsugar · 09/12/2021 18:47

The Arnison Centre was busy today at 4pm. Smyths was busy with lots of people buying trolleys full of toys! I was desperately trying to find DS a Christmas t shirt after forgetting Christmas jumper day for the third year running 🤦🏻‍♀️.

I went to the metro centre today and it was a bit busy!
